Thank you so much. This 67 year old widow just replaced the fill valve from your excellent tutorial. I’m so proud of myself I’m thinking I need a glass of wine to celebrate!!
Wow! I just followed your instructions, and I was installing mine, pausing it every step to make sure I got it right! Thank you so much! I had already been thinking I would need to call a plumber but decided I'd give this a try! You just saved me who knows how much money!! Aghh, I miss my dad!! Thank. You!😮😢❤😂😊
Thank you. I just installed the 400H on a Kohler Highline Arc toilet. A fitting in the center of the flush valve connects to the small black hose without any need for the clip. By the way, the original fill valve was also a Fluidmaster. I am not sure why it would fail after only a few years, but I think that the float no longer goes up and down easily. The fancier replacement cost about $16. I appreciate your helpful and thorough video.
Great explanation. I have not used a Fluidmaster, and it seems there are far too many versions of toilet valves out there. Good to know the ins an outs of this particular version, with the water level adjustments that are built into this one.
My fill tube has a notch that accommodates that overfill/flush tube so I won't need the clip. Thanks for the demo though, I had this clip and was wondering if I really needed it and it would appear I don't.
Nice to hear you Sir for this nice and fluent explanation, I like to know how to practically adjust the CL the critical line 1" above the Over flow Tube please ? Any one is familiar with such dexterity explain with my appreciation .
This 66 year old guy was also able to replace the fill valve after watching your great video. My wife thinks I'm a genius. Don't tell her I watched your video! 🤣
Hi, the top of the flush valve overflow pipe should be 1 inch below the hole for the handle and the CL should be one inch above the top of the overflow pipe. Check out more home improvement tips in our e-books www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0B2KW1FQ9?notRedirectToSDP=1&.
@@FIXITHomeImprovementChannel I notice adjusting the SHAFT ( using the inch markings on the shaft) automatic measure to the TOP of the unit and NOT to the CL line. Comment please.
Back in 1965 they had 4 1/2 gal toilet flush. Everything worked great with the high cost of water in California it was costly to flush. when in that year my Dad worked at in a top-secret Testing Laboratory where my Dad worked that day. He brought home a New and water saving device Fluidmaster 400a'. You could use your old 4 1/2 gal toilet flush and convert to a 1 1/2 gal flush in less than 5 min time. It would flush the same and be easy to install. It saved a lot of money in a year's time. As for today, trying to keep it clean and save time and money is a little harder. You can live with the problem or live with the solution? my Problem was trying to keep my toilet clean and odor free, with a lot of hard water stains Keeping the Water Jets Free from Hard Water? Hard water is a Problem' So I found Spray Bleach from Walmart, every time I use it. Spray a little bleach in the Bowl. I refill the Spray bottle with a funnel. added the 64oz bleach to the spray bottle and a little dish soap to it. Shake it a little and ready to use. Happy Newyear's Hugs wheelchair larry
Thank you for the detailed yet simple video. I was able to change my valve in 10 minutes. I do have a follow up question. My valve was fine on day one but now it’s almost like the valve “starts” every so often, it’s almost like it’s adjusting the water level on its own. Any suggestions to stop that from happening?
Hi, if the fill valve is filling the tank from time to time you have a leak from the flapper or gasket. Replacing the flapper or gasket will stop that. Check out more home improvement tips in our e-books www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0B2KW1FQ9?notRedirectToSDP=1&.
@ thank you. I have that toilet with the 2 buttons for less water e more water when flushing and it doesn’t look like it’s as easy and changing the flapper. Is this on book 16?
Great video.. alotnof information on the Fluidmasters that I didn't know. My Question is, " I have a Kohler Flush Valve and it fills very slowly and I don't know if its adjustable. I've always used the Fluidmasters 400As. Is the Kohler better than the Fluidmasters??
@ 5:00 Does the nut and connector on the line have to make contact after you've tightened both up or is it okay to have some thread between them if you've tightened them both as much as possible?
Hi, there will be space between the top of the nut on the supply line and the bottom of the nut on the hut holding the fill valve. The washer inside the nut on the supply line just needs to make contact with the bottom of the threaded tube on the fill valve. Good clear instructions on replacing a toilet fill valve. Too bad the toilet was black. Hard to see, but we got it. Works well.

Extremely clear concise information. CL. Critical level information.
Measure the height of the overflow pipe so that the CL is set correctly?
Hi, the top of the flush valve overflow pipe should be 1 inch below the hole for the handle and the CL should be one inch above the top of the overflow pipe.
