Another top brand worth mentioning is Don Fulano. It ranks up there with Fortaleza which is my number one all time. Also Tequila Ocho is pretty nice too.
A huge problem, in my experience down here in Houston, is that if I go to a Total Wine or Spec's they are either undereducated on the spirit/are made to push certain ones. I'm guessing this is all over the country in retailers with few exceptions.
It's likely both things, but surely they're being told to push their own crap, like I'm being told by employees of Total Wine here in New York. They don't make any money when they recommend a good brand.
I watched a worker at the Westbury TW steer patrons AWAY from Casamigos and toward Three Amigos and El Tequileno, as well as educate patrons about add free.

I’ve learned a lot since I first got into tequila and I wish I had seen this sooner. I’ve been buying much better stuff for several years now and am happier for it. These days my go to is Arette blanco. It appeals to MY palate more than some of the more celebrated brands and it’s a great value.

Maybe that's why various friends of my told me early on to not drink 'to kill ya'. I always stayed away from it but mostly preferred bourbon anyway. I have to try some the good stuff you recommend to get a feel for it sometime.
As a noob, and for someone who doesnt 'like' or has never had tequila, I would give them the sweeter stuff. Cava de Oro is my gateway drug for noobs. They cant believe it tastes that good and think its #1. Once they are convinced that Tequila has promise, then you can give them a really good blanco like Lalo to show them where the actual Tequila floor starts. The quality of the Water in Lalo makes a big difference in how it feels in the mouth, to the point that it allows your tongue to pull out the sweetness that was always present in tequila before additives. From there you do as Lou says and climb the ladder of the good stuff. Be warned that some of this good stuff is not for amateur drinkers because they will say its too strong/powerful/hot because they have not yet drank the bottom of the barrel stuff from which to form their own opinion. The best is at the 50% and higher alcohol content, 55-60% straight from the copper still's in Jalisco is the ultimate best. Sipping on that fresh highproof tequila immediately numbs your tongue, warms your mouth, draws out cane sugar sweetness from the agave, and zero burn as you drink and exhale.
I agree for the most part, but what I try to do is show newbies a sweet tequila, but something additive free, maybe aged in a cognac barrel or something, to try to get them hooked into the good stuff right off the bat. I agree it doesn't always work, and sometimes you have to start at the bottom, but it's worth a try I flipped a few right into the good stuff from the get-go, and they appreciated saving the time and the money

@tonyg3644 -100% agave doesn't necessarily make a tequila good. Remember that even when it says 100% Agave, it's allowable to have 1% of additives, which these crap brands do at the very minimum. A good brand will not put any additives in, not even the 1% which is allowable by the CRT. The Quality Brands are more traditional, better tasting and more natural tasting, but these crappy brands use at least 1% of concentrated additives which makes them taste artificial and fake.
@ I know to look for “100% de agave” on the bottle. When it says “made from a agave” it’s not pure. Is this starting to apply even to when it’s 100% de agave? I hope I’m asking the right question. Thanks for the reply!
Yes, if it doesn't say "100% agave" then it's a mixto, which you don't want, as it's filled with colorings and additives. Once again, 100% Agave still does not mean it's going to be good tequila, just that it is made fully with the blue Weber agave plant, but it can still be improperly made with inferior equipment and practices, as well as having additives in it. As mentioned, the quality brands do not use any additives, and they use good production procedures.
@@longislandloutequila7208 got it! Thank you for clearing that for me. I always thought any tequila was always made in a traditional way. I did wondered what made a tequila cheap other than the not being made from 100% de agave. New to your channel and enjoying your content!
@tonyg3644 - traditional used to mean oven cooked (Horno) and tahona crushed, but not necessarily today. It can still be a quality traditional tequila if it's done the right way, but there's many ways to improperly make tequila. For example using inferior agave, that is not developed enough to give a proper sugar content is one way. Using a diffuser to produce is another way. An inferior fermentation can be a problem, and of course using additives. There are many ways that a tequila may not be made properly and be inferior, and all of those could be 100% agave
My favorite Blanco is Siembra Azul out of NOM 1414. I noticed that it is not on Grover’s certified additive free list. Does that mean they could be using additives?? I’d be so disappointed if that was the case!
No I wouldn't think so. Occasionally a brand doesn't opt into the program for whatever reasons, but knowing David Suro and Chava... they're not going to use additives

Well you have to be careful with sweet, because a lot of times they are sweet because of additives. For ones that don't have additives... SEE anything on my list HERE- longislandloutequila.com/what-brands-to-buy/amp/
@@donmorey01 - I understand your question, but you'd be drinking additive filled artificial tequila, mixed in with whatever flavors you're using in a mixed drink. That's a lot of sugar, and to me.. that's a major headache
oh hell no, I never even tried it, but I could safely tell you that this distillery sucks, and they put additives in their products, so I would say...NO
LOL...This is awesome, and next time I see someone acting like some kind of sophisticated baller because they're buying a bottle of Casamigos, I'm going to laugh even more under my breath.
Thank you I love those people that think Casamigos is even real tequila. There's so many people willing to educate but so many people just don't want to listen. Thank you for watching
@@longislandloutequila7208 Oh re: people not wanting to listen - I was giving out samples of tequila at a store the other day, and a customer proclaimed, loudly, their love of tequila, so I said "You'll love this one, it's 100% agave, yada yada yada" and the response? "I don't like agave"
I'll take it for the team to show people how crappy they are. I use these bottles in tastings to show people inferior tequila compared to good traditional tequila, thought you'd figure that out
@longislandloutequila7208 I didn't mean to mock you at all. I think it shows you take the test seriously and it also added a humorous note. Totally respected. Thank you, it's a great video.
@abuzarov - I had a feeling you were kidding around but you wouldn't believe the blowback I get from people that don't get it. Thanks buddy and happy holidays
Slamming them back? What would give you that impression? Would it be that most of the shit bottles are half empty? And why would you think that would be? Maybe to show people when I do tasting how crappy these tequilas are?
I dont know what lulu is? if you mean Lalo, they dont make a reposado,if that's what you meant,, and Corazon is not a top tequila... it's drinkable, but that's it
Love the video. New subscriber. Your recommendations are spot on. Not sure if you ever tried El Tesoro, but if you haven’t give it a try you won’t be disappointed!
You'd be surprised how many of my fellow Mexicans (IDK how they call themselves Mexicans) drink GARBAGE tequila... Talking about that, I'm very curious about Casa Dragones, a very premium brand, very expensive, and was wondering if you have tasted it?
@benjibecks - I'm amazed at the lack of tequila knowledge by many Mexican people.. If I try to give advice or education, they get an attitude because it's their product and not mine, and I can understand that. Many of them drink the brands their grandparents drank, which were much better quality then. Brands like Don Julio, Herradura, Cazadores Etc have all gone straight downhill. Yes I've had Casa dragones and it's one of the worst ever created how to make with a diffuser and filled with additives. It's all flash ua-cam.com/video/WcUXMGcENSs/v-deo.htmlfeature=shared

@@donmorey01 - I understand your question, but you'd be drinking additive filled artificial tequila, mixed in with whatever flavors you're using in a mixed drink. That's a lot of sugar, and to me.. that's a major headache
Une question Volcan de mi terre blanco...et Cabo Wago blanco...?..
Volcan is very good, Cabo is not so much anymore
Thanks !!!
Where can i get a bottle of Fortaleza is the question
Vasanta Tequila Blanco. Additives free??
oh hell no, I never even tried it, but I could safely tell you that this distillery sucks, and they put additives in their products, so I would say...NO
Big Lou es un Chingon!!! long live Hermano, love your channel
@Alfonso732 - thank you Alfonso
this is fantastic. thanks Lou
Scared to ask about alto tequila 😂! Im sure its full of additives
Hey Lou, my friend, you need to spit that bad shit out - your body is too valuable! I happily throw all kinds of crap out....
Subscribed in six seconds. Lmfao.
@@JOz-il2cr - thank you❤️💯
Can u ship Fortaleza to ga?
I don't have a store, that's my house
“I get a headache when I drink this stuff”. Goes on to drink the stuff.
“This is garbage - synthetic, fake, additives…”
*chugs half a glass*
Preach my brother
bought G4 Blanco for thanks giving and it tasted like crap.. dont understand all the hype behind it..
El Mayor. Dont know how it ranks but I thought it was very good.
- it's okay, middle of the road
I love this guy. bro gets funnier and funnier
🤣❤️
Amazing Truth...Don't drink crap
Surprised you didn’t spit the bad ones out, they wouldn’t last in my mouth half a second.
I took it for the team🤣, but after that video I swear I had a pounding headache
Gahhhhbage. So good, and so true
@@longislandloutequila7208 I subbed and will be watching more!
Why are you not drinking the good stuff instead of the crap
Haha. These are new backup bottles. The crap ones I use to show people what shit tequila tastes like compared to good tequila
Don't mention Fortaleza the average person can't find it😢
Lots of people are saying they're finding it again. I'm sure it depends where you live
@@longislandloutequila7208 for hunters yeah, family and friends that I have introduced it too and liked it they can't find it
"Oh, it's the worst!"
Gulps it.
"And this one is disgusting!"
Drinks that one.
"And this one? You must be kidding me!"
Finishes that one too.
Thanks to you Lou i drink all additive free Tequilas
💯❤️❤️
There's no such thing as crap tequila. That's because it's origins are primitive so the more crap it is, the more authentic and beautiful it is.
I know nothing about tequila
Absolutely horrible, and yet he's slamming them back
Slamming them back? What would give you that impression? Would it be that most of the shit bottles are half empty? And why would you think that would be? Maybe to show people when I do tasting how crappy these tequilas are?
Preach say it louder for the people in the back
Subbed
Lulu and Corazon respo
I dont know what lulu is? if you mean Lalo, they dont make a reposado,if that's what you meant,, and Corazon is not a top tequila... it's drinkable, but that's it
@@longislandloutequila7208 Luzanal, probably spelled wrong
Love the video. New subscriber. Your recommendations are spot on. Not sure if you ever tried El Tesoro, but if you haven’t give it a try you won’t be disappointed!
Thank you and I love El Tesoro
Do you own a liquor store? Is that your private collection???? Can you sell me some Fortaleza???? 😂😂😂😂😂
No, yes, and I'm sorry no
@@longislandloutequila7208 Wow, nice collection 👍👍👍 I am sooooo jealous 😜😜😜😜
Reichert Ways
Casamigos is gross. I don’t get the hype.
So they’re all 💩?
Yes, the ones I mentioned, artificial, not made well and overpriced
@ thanks mate. We need more options here in Australia!
You'd be surprised how many of my fellow Mexicans (IDK how they call themselves Mexicans) drink GARBAGE tequila...
Talking about that, I'm very curious about Casa Dragones, a very premium brand, very expensive, and was wondering if you have tasted it?
@@benjibecks -
@benjibecks - I'm amazed at the lack of tequila knowledge by many Mexican people..
Boooo, yes I'm booing you. Let them drink the crap, they are happy and the bottles looks good on the table in the club. The good stuff is getting harder and harder to find. I use be able to walk into my favorite liquor store and pickup whatever I wanted. Got to work for it now Lou.
I like the cut of your jib.
I have had almost all of those and two stand out that you dont show,1 telson anejo 2 Don roberto 2x anejo, jus my opinion
