Oh, absolutely she nor anyone in her employment have any idea of who or what they're fully dealing with. Even Geralt doesn't understand the full extent, especially after first getting the chance from a VERY reluctant Regis to meet with the vampire who lives near the original entrance of the rift all vampires came though at the Conjunction of the Spheres. Just waiting for thousands of millennia just for even a momentary glimpse or scent of their home. A higher vampire so quick even Geralt can be killed before he can even move.

@@ethicallybasedexomnivore That’s what gets me about them; they’re sort of tragic in that regard. All that power, all that strength…and he uses it to guard an empty cave and a closed door, hoping beyond hope that even a _sliver_ of light will pour through the cracks so that he can get a taste of his old home. He could do _anything,_ but he’s so homesick that all he _wants_ to do is stare at a wall in perfect silence for the rest of eternity.

@JamesTAdams, that's what makes them such fascinating and complex individuals. Of all vampires of any genre, I'd have to say that the vampires within the lore of the Witcher universe have to be my absolute favorite iteration of all time. Because you don't just have the higher vampires. Their species has sub species within their kind from Bruxae to Fledder, and Ekimara and all manner of vampire. CD Projekt Red really did a phenomenal job of showing just how complex and emotionally deep higher vampires are; both terrifying and tragically relatable to humans and, in certain aspects, even more evolved.

Yes. But also no. There’s ways of concealing them. Or locking them away forever. Technically, lore wise as well, the power of Nilfgard would summon mages. Powerful mages. That would know how or where to store him. I talk like it would be easy to do. There’s really no other person to trap said higher vampire than Geralt. But they’re on borrowed time.

Similar to Elder Dragons in Monster Hunter, I love the fact that Higher Vampires in the Witcher are really, REALLY hard to permanently kill and are basically walking natural disasters

I find them to be the most fascinating interpretation of vampires in any vampire lore. They have so many varied species of vampires and the fact that there are vampires that literally wait, the elders, for the conjunction of the spheres to happen again so they can return to their home world. To the point they'll wait literally thousands of years JUST for a glimpse of their home; even a scent.

I don't really vibe with it. If anything is to have that eldritch op power level, it definitely shouldn't be vampires, imo. Vampires are generic creatures. I find them boring AF, they are overdone in the media. I think eldritch beings should be ancient, mysterious, like those 3 witches of the bog. Or like some Cthulhu esq being. Not vampires.
Not to mention, I don't think the storyline and quests in this dlc was particularly good. Maybe that's why I don't like the vampire lore. Every character kinda sucked, and boring, including the vampire characters.

Lore wise, the best and most strategic way to deal with said higher vampire would be writing to Emperor Emir himself. Ask for the tippy toppest mages. Where they can trap said Higher Vampire in a different dimension/realm. Or cage him deep in a dimeritium cage.
For those of you that might say, “this won’t work.” Mages in the past have already accomplished this. With Geralt and Regis, it could have been very possible. In fact, Regis did trap himself (willingly). The only issue here is they were on borrowed time and needed to move fast.

i would think it's hard finding people willing to anger a immortal like that especially detlaff because even imprisoned he can control the lower castes so unless you trapped him in a dimension that had constant containment there he would get back in 20 to 200 years and then kill literally everyone who helped or start burning the kingdom down.

Which is why Geralt defeating Detlaff didn't make sense, he didn't even weaken him with black blood like what happened in the trailer, besides I doubt Black Blood even work against Higher Vampire.
I suppose the intended story was for Cianna to die in Detlaff's hand and Geralt let him go. With this, at least the only person Geralt cared about (Regis) would not have to bear the consequences of being hunted by its own kind.

Scenes like this prove just how good the writing in Witcher 3 is. On a level with some of the best movies or TV series, like the first seasons of Game of Thrones for example. Maybe you sometimes experienced this, you find one scene from a TV series on youtube that lasts about 10 minutes, decide to watch a little bit and in the end you don't notice how fast the time flies by and you've already watched the whole clip. It's the same with Witcher 3. Makes you want to drop everything and replay the game again.

But the quality of The Witcher is superior. Whereas the base story of Cyberpunk was really good; it wasn't until Phantom Liberty, whereas the writing reached Witcher level quality. Especially when it came to side questing. EVERY single side quest in Witcher even outperforms the main quest (even as far back as Witcher II). AND you include Hearts of Stone and Blood And Wine, and it's nearly unbeatable in quality. Whereas the side quests in Cyberpunk were hit or missed UNTIL Phantom Liberty.

@@efaristi9737 bro it’s not a game mechanic. The literal lore to higher vampires is that only another higher vampire can permanently kill one. Any other time they will regenerate even if it takes decades.

Only one way to kill a Higher Vampire and that's another Higher Vmapire killing them but in doing so they get ostracized and hunted by there very own kind and at worst being hunted by a Elder ancient High Vampire but such a fate is extremely rare but still would happen.

It's interesting to know that they even have established social expectations and even punish those who transgress against their laws. It's not that vampires can't wipe out humanity. It's just that to higher vampires, humans are an annoyance, and all vampires want is to be left alone. For higher vampires, they just want to coexist within human societies. They don't even require blood to exist; something I find really fascinating about higher vampires.

He does, though, when he explains to her that higher vampires are vastly different in every way to other
species of vampires. Whereas a Witcher could defeat a lesser vampire like an Ekymara, no Witcher or human could ever hope to defeat a higher vampire.

But goddamn Sommeliers are so annoying. Look I get it, you can probably determine some difference or another, but "I taste the North Atlantic Sea in this vintage, it was clearly shipped from Norway" or some shit. I don't believe you. Sorry. You're lying. A sealed wine, in a sealed bottle, in a sealed container, picked up notes from the voyage?
Plus the mouth noises they always make, yea smacking your lips helps you smell better I'm sure. Anything to make the grift seem more authentic.

    • @argentumlunaris

Actually the mouth thing makes sense. Much like dogs , you're helping to pass it over additional olfactory sensors plus you're taste buds.
Most sommeliers are bullshit. There are a few with real talent, but they are few and far between. Plenty have been exposed with blind tests.
In this case, this world has like, magic and shit, so I can suspend my disbelief. Also, if there was ever gonna be a true sommelier it's probably the dude that works for the duchess of the country who's obsessed with wine.

In blind taste tests, expert wine testers have repeatedly mistaken 10 dollar bargain bottles for bottles that would typically go for hundreds of dollars. It's 100 percent a scam

Sorry dude... depends on who you heard first, longest and grew comfortable with. Add to the fact that you dont have to constantly look at subs to understand what's being said.
Let's say it's anime. AoT and Berserk I prefer in english as theyre mostly western peeps, heck Id even go one step further and watch them in german especially AoT in Paradis, as their names are obviously german. Demonslayer set in japan? Definitely picking japanese language.
Its just the fact that with Geralt more people already grew accustomed to David. Like with Goku people hate me for prefering english voice as I didnt like seeing a really buff and tall alien speak in a squeaky voice, which was ok for me when it was still just dragon ball.

Oh, I know! There were several other amazing characters I think would've been wonderful to be able to romance. Shani also comes to mind. It was a shame yet understandable why it wouldn't work between them in the traditional sense; her being a medic, usually on the battlefields; Geralt going wherever contracts and political interests take him constantly.
