    I don't think many people realise how HARD it is to play the tabla as proficient as him. My teacher has been learning for over 15 years and he still tells me he is always learning new things and new techniques. Bravo to Zakir and to Bela and Edgar

    I was lucky enough to be a (western) musician with the opportunity to play with some top-notch musicians in my time, and all I can tell you is that sometimes when things get really good, it is so amazing that it will just make you laugh. I doubt that he takes himself as seriously as some of his admirers do, but I can see how one might be offended by what could be interpreted as a show of disrespect. Oh, and I like the slow parts as much as the fast parts.

    Was I the only one to notice the claps, appreciative "woooo"s and the whistling? The audience were definitely enjoying themselves WITH him.. 2:54 to 2:58 was definitely done playfully (William Tell Overture)

    "That's the essence of music. It tames ur mind." That is an amazingly concise description of what music is essentially. It doesn't matter how familiar the audience is with the music, it will reach the audience at whatever level they are able to accept. Most of the audience is unaware of what Bela and Edgar are doing as well on their level. Musicians of that caliber are so closely united with their instruments that playing is like breathing. Only accomplished musicians can relate on that level.

    Funny how differently people perceive things. I thought he was being very playful and the audience was responding with joyful laughter. I found no disrespect. I don't think even a Western audience would go to such a concert with these extraordinary musicians without knowing what they were getting into. And their enthusiastic response seemed to prove they knew, and felt, the total amazingness of the music.

    Beautiful performance.. If there is anyone who does slacken the age-old orthodox restrictions in Indian Classical Music, it is Ustad Zakir Hussain.. What a creative genius.. I think he can even play melodies on his percussion..
    Wonderful double bass playing also.. Interesting jazz melodies..
    What is the third lute-like instrument..? If anyone knows please do reply me, and tell me where is it from.. Anyways he also gave interesting turns..

    Has he ever played with orchestra's like that of yani? Or in company of Kenny G? Any one got any videos of him playing drums? I know he played it once where he plays tabla first n then goes n hammers it out on drums also. Cnt remember where I saw it. Saw it long time back almost 15 years ago.

    i hope yall realize he is trying to make the audience laugh and entertain them.... he doesn't just relate to people with his music, he uses all aspects of human nature to relate the story that his fingers are telling to the audience. if they laugh, they're enjoying it!

    Maybe they're high, I don't know. Maybe fast passages is what impresses them and that's how they show they're appreciation. Their facial expressions and the rarity of the trio in the first place? Not every audience is going to be full of musicians or knowledgeable of such an experience. I see it more as a gain for an uninformed audience to get informed, just my 2 cents.

    You just don't understand WESTERN culture. Zakir WANTED them to laugh. He laughed too - he was making a little 'fun with Western classical music and it's association with the "Lone Ranger." So relax. It's all cool!

    The part where he starts playing without vocalizing can be interpreted as a typical Indian family; 2 kids demanding something from their dad, him resisting, and mom chipping in now and then. Hmm...

  • @rohiten1
    @rohiten1 11 років тому +2

    They're not used to vocalizing exactly what you're going to play...that Hindustani music....in order to play an instrument, you have to be a pretty competent singer first

  • @34672rr

    three amazing musicians, but tabla just does not work on chord changes, sounds sour because of the minor 7th interval on the tablas, when he changes the tabla notes. Bela and Edgar should have realized this and changed their compositions/playing. Or zakir should have switched to percussion
