I just saw Béla Fleck, Edgar Meyer, and Mike Marshall yesterday at Rockygrass 2022 and it was the most incredible experience. Has me in tears. I hope I have this memory forever.
This song literally gives me chills when I hear it. Man, when Edgar comes in with those hard driving bass lines, and Bela is just floating on top of them....incredible is hardly the word.
I was at this show in 2002 and I'll never forget it. There was a "bigger" name playing on the main stage but my buddies and I wanted to see Bela and Edgar. I enjoyed the hell out of their jams and classical renditions while relaxing in the grass near the back of the crowd watching some boho girls dance with hula hoops. This was all happening in Tennessee in late June so the Sun was giving us a beating all weekend, but right in the middle of one of Bela and Edgar's jams this little, dark cloud decided to rain on us for a few minutes and provide us with a beautiful moment of respite from the Summer heat. Bela and Edgar commented on it and the crowd, of course, gave those two gents all the credit for bringing the rain.
The videotaping is from Bonnaroo 2002 This is one of the videos that made it on the Bonnaroo 2002 DVD. A must own DVD in my opinion. one of the most amazing music festivals EVER!!
Mind blowingly good!! I hadn't realized how amazing Edgar Meyer was on the bass! As for the 10 people that disliked this; in the words of the late great Walter Matthau: " why don't you do the whole world a favor, and pull your lip over your head and shwallow!!
This song & performance is so stirring and evocative, it gives me goosebumps every time I listen to it. Close your eyes and it takes you on a mental journey through the US. To me it's a new American classic along the lines of Rhapsody in Blue or Fanfare for the Common Man.
One of the most soulful jams i've ever heard. Who with any musical appreciation whatsoever could dislike this? Bela is a flawless madman on the banjo, no doubt the greatest picker i've ever seen on the banjo!!
i've nevere been so spechless! there is so much things i want to say... even though i've seen this a thousand times... TOP TEN OF ALL PERFORMACES OF ALL TIME!
I remember exactly where I was when I first heard this …… what a song Two virtuoso’s completely set free by such an incredible melody and do deliver sheer emotion to top it off “ make em feel what u feel inside “ They def did that. Thanks fellas !!
I was front row for this. If anyone has a recording of their soundcheck, please post it!. It was someone of the best Ive heard from the both of them together.
I watched this back as a kid (now highschool) and since then I've tried to find it anywhere Edgar Meyer is an incredible musician...and bassist alone. and with Bela, they're together, I'd consider the "second coming"
I was at this show. I will never forget how it started raining during their performance but yet was still bright and sunny out. The rain was a welcome reprieve from the heat.
This song is brilliant. Fleck has really made me love the banjo. Everything about it is beautiful. I just wish I could play it half as well as he dose. Edgar is nuts on that bass as well.
Great sound and videotaping! Thanks for posing this! Edgar seems to just get better and better as impossible as that may seem. I saw him and Bela and Zakir Hussain on tabla at the Aspen Music Festival about a week ago. They were fantastic and received standing ovations.
I couldn't care less about their so-called "dress sense", and neither should anyone else with an ounce of brains! They are simply PHENOMENAL musicians, this is a simply phenomenal performance, and that is all that matters.
Thanks so much for finally uploading this! I've been searching for this video ever since I first saw it on a friend's copy. Definitely better played on a system with good speakers :)
Thanks for the info, although I own that album and B song is not on there. Whatever the case, your reply has rejuvenated my search. Maybe the internet has become smarter in the last year.
@Jbasz I had the same issue. It's from the Bonnaroo 2002 DVD (check Amazon). The CD and DVD versions are different. I had to borrow the DVD from a buddy and rip the audio.
I've never seen this song in any official track listing for any album, beside the performance recording seen in this video. Same goes for "Amalgamations For Solo Bass" by Meyer. 3rd movement is on one album, 2nd is on another. Who knows how many there actually are. :)
This may quite possibly be the best thing on the entire internet.
MG Spin hell yeah.
A year later. Fuckin A.
I believe you have misspelled "entire world".
🌎........💯...............🛸
Agreed! I saw it live and it made me fuckin weep!!!!!!!
This song literally makes me cry. It really is one of the greatest pairings of musicians to walk this earth! Thank you Bela and Edgar!
I feel the same way. Make me cry.
This was definitely the highlight of the DVD from this Bonaroo.
Agree completely!
if Edgar Meyer and Bela Fleck were made into action figures i would totally buy them.
Aged like a fine wine, just gets better with time, still gives me goosebumps 🔥
Everytime no matter situation completely agree just gorgeous sound. I was there it wasn't cold but I had chills
I just saw Béla Fleck, Edgar Meyer, and Mike Marshall yesterday at Rockygrass 2022 and it was the most incredible experience. Has me in tears. I hope I have this memory forever.
I've heard this song 100 times.. and that transition at 5:00 still gives me goosebumps.
Agreed
💯
Absolutely incredible

That was the greatest raincloud I've ever felt. I dont think I blinked while they played.
When UA-cam suggests this, it resets my day! Incredible!
I was there. Best weekend of my life still.
2021 still the best thing on the internet
I have looked for this song for years. This is by far my favorite song of this duo. They are absolutely ridiculous.

No this is the best playing hands down on the internet .. very nice indeed fellas 🤟🤟
The things Edgar Meyer does with that bass..
Mind blowingly good!! I hadn't realized how amazing Edgar Meyer was on the bass! As for the 10 people that disliked this; in the words of the late great Walter Matthau: " why don't you do the whole world a favor, and pull your lip over your head and shwallow!!

Two of the best musicians in the world!!!!
i've nevere been so spechless! there is so much things i want to say... even though i've seen this a thousand times... TOP TEN OF ALL PERFORMACES OF ALL TIME!
I've totally met Edgar Meyer! He has such an amazing personality! And I love his bass playing. I aspire to be like him.
What person on this green earth would dislike a video like this of possibly the two most greatest banjo and double bass players on the planet.
Love me some either or both Bela Fleck and Edgar Meyer...any time of day, any week any month of any year
two guys making music like they were with 10... LOVE it!
I remember exactly where I was when I first heard this …… what a song Two virtuoso’s completely set free by such an incredible melody and do deliver sheer emotion to top it off “ make em feel what u feel inside “ They def did that. Thanks fellas !!
With all the great music thats out there.....whats wrong with radio these days?
Every time I come back to this, it blows me away even more.
I was front row for this. If anyone has a recording of their soundcheck, please post it!. It was someone of the best Ive heard from the both of them together.
Bela and Yo Yo Ma together is also amazing. Pretty much Bela and anyone else.
I watched this back as a kid (now highschool)
and since then I've tried to find it anywhere
Edgar Meyer is an incredible musician...and bassist alone.
and with Bela, they're together, I'd consider the "second coming"
I was at this show. I will never forget how it started raining during their performance but yet was still bright and sunny out. The rain was a welcome reprieve from the heat.
I was there too, and I’m surprised no one mentioned the “rain song”!! Can’t believe this was 16 years ago!
Honesty: I never heard of Edgar Meyer until today.
I LOVE UA-cam.
Incredible musicians! and Bela's shirt is way cool!
The 14 folks who gave this a thums down no doubt still believe disco will come back one day.
edgar is such a beast they need two cameras for him
wow....edgar and bela make the coolest stuff together
they aint worried about the wrong stuff. incredible music gets made when only the music matters.
How could anyone not like this, and in fact, love this?!!
4 people disliked this??? They obviously have no idea. I'm surprised they find their ways home without help.
dude this is one of the best videos i have ever seen bela fleck is out of this world and so is edger myer
Such timing and focus.
i dont know how i got here but i'm glad i did best song ever O.O
So fantastic.
where does Bela find such amazing musicians that seem to play with him flawlessly in a style that seems to generate from his fertile mind alone
This song is brilliant. Fleck has really made me love the banjo. Everything about it is beautiful. I just wish I could play it half as well as he dose. Edgar is nuts on that bass as well.
Astounding! Two great masters at work.
I love the constant G drone,
Absolute craziness with these two playing off each other.
I'll never forget being there. Freaking great time.

Awsome! So much feeling from Edgar.
Sweet sweet bass! Gotta love Bela the finger picking magician too.

Awesome. Epic win. 5 stars.
Bela and Edgar toured together in support of their duo cd "Music for two" and it included a live DVD, but I'm not sure if this one is on it.

Thanks for the info, although I own that album and B song is not on there. Whatever the case, your reply has rejuvenated my search. Maybe the internet has become smarter in the last year.
