in my opinion it's a great way to prepare for throwing the right jabs in the right places when up close to the opponent. also to me I think it helps enhance the eye's peripheral vision so when your up close hopefully you can see the power punch coming from the side.
You can tell this man can physically destroy another man without much effort. I need to get my stamina up and work on my head movement and feet placement.
Hi Coach Marvin, I know I late this video but at the bottom it mention that you teaches in Fullerton, CA? Are you close to JC Fullerton or CSUF by any chance? : ) Love your videos and thank you for sharing. And have a wonderful holiday season with your family and love one.
Quick question i pray you answer what should I do to improve my reflexes so i can see the punches coming? What should I look at or look for? I want to dodge punches and evade them the SAME way ali, tyson, and silva did it im 130 lbs and i know guys at my weight punch quick but i really want to improve them abd be just as fast as them PLZ HELP
Always keep your vision centered on the center of a guys chest or two inches below his naval, even moving your head and punching various target. When you look at the center of a guys chest or naval, you learn the true distance between you and your opponent, and which way your opponent is shifting his power and mass that is use to throw the arms. You could think of your opponents torso as a rectangle with the outer parts of his hips and shoulder making up the points of that rectangle. Think about dodging and using your fighting moves in regards to how that rectangle (your opponents torso) is moving, instead of worrying about the specific punches that he is throwing (left hook, right upper cut, jab, etc.). Try that, I hope it works for you. Keep in mind, I am not fighting right now; I am just a guy typing on a keyboard, so I could be full of shit.
That rifle metaphor is genius
Finally someone teaching the boxing fundementals...
I really respect this teaching style
Wonder boy Thompson has some nice footwork drills as well if you're interested in basics
Coach moves like Kazuya Mishima from Tekken. Doing wave dashes.
Johnny Lira 😂😂😂 🚶🏾💨🚶🏾💨🚶🏾💨
Once I learned you could buffer that move into other moves it was over

love this coach great way of teaching
Man it would be a dream to be reached by this guy
Marvin cook from what I've seen is truly one of the greatest boxing coaches ever
Very good analogy. Also cutting off the leg movement to keep it head to head to practice bobbing and weaving really is a great way to learn best
this drill improved my head movement alot, thanks for the video!
Really neat drill. Love how you explain the basics.
Marvin let him know who RUNS it🥊💡🤣🤣🙏🏿🤯
For anyone who wants to know, the song at 3:41 is The Pot by Tool and the song at 3:05 is Rosetta Stoned by Tool.
Salute!!! Training methods that really teach you how to develop as a boxer.
This is a good drill. I’ve also seen coaches have a pair of their guys each stick a foot in a tire and work on defence.
Your youtube is awesome man, here you have info most people would charge hundreds of dollars to teach, for free! Thank you
Gotta love this gym, Tool in the background, damn!
