Wonderful video. I really like how he makes such fluid motion with each different transition in his movements. Every small detail is key in fully utilizing the stance to its upmost potential
what happened is i can not remember the password from 2012 hahaha... wish we could between me and marvin,,, but sorry. He is talking tho of a new channel right now lol
Boxing has been a part of my family for generations ive learned a little from my Dad but theres so much more he knew i wish i could learn from him but distance and work gets in between usthanks to you Marvin cook i am able to learn more ive look up many tuturials but noone had the right form or experince i was looking for i can tell a good boxer by thier stance and footwork and man you got it thats why i wish i lived near you i would happily pay you to school me man and by the way your humble as heck bro real fighters are you show great honor as a man and a boxer on how you hold yourself and train others ... Godbless you Marvin.
I watched Ron Arrest on a highlight once, one of the better NBA defenders of his day, and he was (in the attempt to stay in front of his defender, which in basketball is a key fundamental) half stepping, instead of taking big wide striding steps. There are some techniques that actually cross over to more than one sport. Marvin Cook is a great teacher and this video shows how training in boxing can also improve your skills in other tasks.
6:58 turning on hips rather than using the shoulder's big momentum- amazing stuff. I just tried, the whole turning and balancing and felt much quicker pivoting and moving. Now need to get faster at it. #GreatTip
You're a badass dude man you know how to teach well and you're very sensible with it and everything you have taught on these videos definitely definitely works I'm going to use your enlightenment to get my own teachings going to show these youngsters what a computer can't do
One small thing to bear in mind though my friend is leg kicks. That is the one thing you will find changes fights quickly in the MMA/muay thai. You are right balance can help with that, but your standard boxing stance would be prime for them. That is kind of irrelevant because you can apply your advice to an adapted stance anyway.
So happy I found your page been studying the arts of years initially #boxing since 16 for the last 5 been studying muay Thai besides the strikes boxing is still the most useful skill to me as far as evading an opponent looking forward to more helps during my training
His movement reminds me a lot of Shawn Porter's, and they work on footwork and balance a lot. Really interesting and I will work on it, thanks a lot. Just from trying it a little bit with the Thai kicks, it works in some ways, as in you can move plant your feet and give a good power kick quicker. But at the same time, with the fluidity of kicking, it mostly helps for your hips to be swinging to a certain extent and leaning back can help with that. However, it depends on the situation, so up close it may be beneficial. I am yet to try it out with the knees, so I'll let you know. I am an older fighter now, so like your man said I use punches more often so really appreciate the tips dude and I can certainly see it helping MMA fighters. Respect!
Hi every one hope you guys ok I'm being fighting since I'm 15 years old I'm 30 now I start watch marvin cook videos 4 years back ,from the first video I watched i noticed that I wasted years + of my training and game plan because I used to do this small little mistakes that you thing it's not a mistake you done it your whole life wrong thank you marvin cook a lot hope you get us some new video out as we stuck at home as you know thanks again
Skill ladder drills will help you understand this if you keep your shoulders from moving while you do it. Edit: Not "move" but more like "turning". Turning with the momentum of the direction you're going in.
Light-heavy weights in MMA are 205. 205 used to be middleweight before they had a light-heavy but as far as I know LHW always been 205. Cheers love this style of content, not trying to be a hater & I'm sure 20 other guys posted this. Just bored and I already started typing. Thanks for the lessons.
Were First time doing boxing workouts at home I and my wife. But I. Doing research on total correction that requires you to be really good. Taking advice from your videos!!!
Watching Muhammad Ali you can see a lot of these parallel technical elements demonstrated by Marvin Cook's true boxing stance methodology: Moving on the toes Light on the feet Half steps while keeping weight centered under the hips Rotating with initiating motion emanating from the hips Keeping the lead foot in front while moving and angling Initiating punching motion outward with hip rotation and returning punching motion inward back to your basic stance with hip rotation Always staying balanced under the hips while punching and moving!!!
2020 and we all still watching Marvin and are mad thats there no new Videos. Sry for my english hahah but im from Germany Marvin starte mal wieder mit UA-cam durch junge...
Hi, can you help me, i'm french, and i just want to understand at 8:13, he say " the way to ajust that", but for who is he talking? Him, or the opponent, what angle we have to maintain, or what is the point with the shoulder and the jab of the opponent compare to our footwork? Is he saying that we have always to be able to throw a jab in a straight line to the opposent shoulder? Thanks for the help
@marvincook how would you incorporate willie peps v step and inside body shots to this stance? Seems mostly to be an out boxing style. I believe I’m missing something.
Is Marvin making any more videos? MARVIN COME BACK ! ! ! You're a true teacher/coach and an inspiration for us young boxing practitioners.
I just discovered his videos and there is no trace of him
