Despite being 48 years old, I still laugh every time I hear the name, Dick Lovett.

We all do, don’t worry
He should change his name to avoid all the imaturity. I suggest Will Lovecock.
@@Zepherian or richard head.
@@TheCarGuysTVyes we all do. Snap . I’m 49. So yes it’s childish but highly amusing. I used to work in a corporate bank, and never tired of pronouncing mr Cockburn ( correct pronunciation co burn) mr cock burn. He immediately snapped back with co burn. I apologised. Put the conf call in silence for 10 seconds whilst a whole load of mature men pissed themselves like school kids…… never grow up boys. And yes Damian you sold the F40 but so what, never have regrets just good memories.
F40 did strike me as a mistake at the time. Prices will only continue to climb.
Terrific video. Love the humbleness. Own view, think you did well moving the other 4 on tbh but the F40….as you know… an icon and absolute automotive royalty. Hope you get another one in the future. Would complete your garage imo
We feel your pain Damian on the F40. Our CEO had a 7K mile Testarossa, he mentions every week he should have never of sold it. Keep up the good work. 👍🏼
👍🏻👍🏻
I understand your pain, I have a similar list. Fiat Multipla (Type 186), Renault Avantime, Citroën Xsara Picasso , Lancia Ypsilon Oro (Type 843), and finally my version of your Ferrari F40 the Hyundai Coupe (Mk1 facelift). I should have never let her go.....
Wasn’t it the Hyundai S Coupe, or as I called it - the Scoupe?
@TheCarGuys.TV no thats an older model. I am talking about the rd2 with celics like lights. Interestingly, the predecessor F2 had the following marketing tagline "On average, men think about the F2 every 6 seconds." Did you know that no more than 1100 F2 were made. That makes it rarer than an F40. Maybe I should copy your Ferrari series and do a "Drive every Hyundai Coupe model/variant series" I am sure it has great potential. I know at least 4.5 people who will watch it.
@@masteringzero You definitely should do that series - I reckon you’d be surprised at how many people would watch it
"It is better to have loved and lost, than never to have loved at all!" We all have been there!!! Great video as always.
👍🏻👍🏻
Arrrrggg, that F40! 🤦♂️ Not that I am in the same position as you, Damian, but as a car guy, I can feel your pain 😑 Here is hoping an F40 makes it back into your car collection 👍
I totally understand those regrets BUT just take a look around the garage and see what you have now. Surely that puts a massive grin back on your face. 😁
It’s better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all….apart from the F40….that’s just unforgivable 😅
😂😂😂
997 Turbo S story will never not be funny😂🤣🤣🤣💔, Selling a car from underneath ones nose has to be every car guy's worst nightmare across the world😂
Indeed
I regret selling my Speed Yellow Gen 1 996 GT3 Club Sport even though I did own in for 12 years. It was a bit lacking in performance compared to the Gen 2 but that was remedied after I had the K400 Manthey upgrade fitted and great on track after having the geo set up by Parr Garage, a well known Porsche specialist. I made a small profit on it but values have gone up a fair bit since. Now owned by an Australian Porsche enthusiast based on the Isle of Man. F40 probably my favourite car of all time.
Great video, as always. When I think back to what I wish I never sold, I have two cars I regret. My first 911, a 1983 SC Convertible in white. And a Jaguar XJ series 3. Very different cars, but both had soul. The other 40 or so I have had - and sold - I hardly think about😊
My biggest regret is selling my Detomaso Pantera GT 5 wide body. In the early 90’s I had trouble finding a buyer for it!
Good lord!
Now that is my grail car!
Thank you for this episode. Always thought that these kind of mistakes only happened to myself. Very often look at photos , mainly Porsche , that I owned and handed on after a while. Today they would be worth a fortune and will never be available for a reasonable price they had 10 - 25 years ago. But lucky you , there still some gems in your car park that will make you smile again. 👍🏻👍🏻😊😊😊
Thank you for watching - I’m glad you enjoyed it
Damian, can you do an inspirational video on how you made your wealth and got yourself in a position to start the collection? Great vid
Do you really think that would be interesting?
@@TheCarGuysTV absolutely mate. You're clearly very switched on, It'd be great to hear the story
@@TheCarGuysTV I think it would be a viewing winner tbh Damian. You can tell by your Subscription count rocking up, your a well respected, likeable and have obviously been a v successful biz Man. I think people would be interested in the life and times…….
@@martingetliffe maybe he inherited billions and those cars are all what is left🥴 until you make a video i will go with that story😁
Btw i was just wondering that about half a minute before i saw this comment😀
@@lukazupie7220 it’s not hard to look up his name and his businesses Mate. There are UA-cam content creators out there, exactly as you describe, the car guys are self made and that’s why I give them my full respect…..
Great video Damien,
Love the sellers remorse in the F40 at the end of the video.
Question is it as good to drive as it is to look at?
Buy a 599 GTO instead of another F40.
Brilliant video 👌
What I love most about your F40 I think, is the story of you buying it. What an experience I imagine that day was.
Fuck the regrets, you have lived the experiences 🤙
Always a lovely presentation. Beautifully made, heart and sole ‘thrown in’ …. Sometimes when I go to bed, I cry. I think about the F40 leaving YOUR garage and it makes me sad. You’re a wise man, Damien. Save up those pennies/pounds and redeem the garage! A nice little F50 or Enzo would really suit the yard! 😉👍😃
Good episode. I have experienced buying cars with head and heart,(trying my best to balance both) and sometimes buying with the heart, or head alone. Having bought cars with either one and I have regretted it. Both in balance and I have cherished, and enjoyed it, and when selling, not made much of a loss emotionally or financially, providing I have had something of similar impact to replace it with. Far more difficult to sell when a car stimulates head and heart equally though, and you MUST have something with equal significance (to you) to replace it with, otherwise repent, repent and repent! Haha.
The F40 is almost unrepeatable - I remember encouraging you to buy the 288 as a replacement, for example.
👍🏻
Great video love the thats it’s different. Also l have heard stories about Porsche they can be rude even Chris Harris on one of his video said they were rude to him he said he didn’t expect to be treated any different. I disagree If your spending big money treat people right even if your just looking still treat them right. It’s not the 80s Keep the videos coming. 👏🏾👍🏾👊🏽 hey we all sell cars we regret selling and we all lose big money you still have a massive collection your glass is half full not empty. Dream garage as it is. 👊🏽
Love the channel, love the content. Been watching since the 1st time you showed the F40..... more or less day 1!
But sorry, as far as the turbo purchase I totally understand your frustration but as an outsider looking in...... well maybe a different salesman was also trying to build a relationship with one of his customers 🤔
If they knew you were going to buy it and you knew that you were going to buy it maybe you should just have bought it sooner or put a deposit down or something.
could really feel the pain with the 996 turbo!! I have had that happen privately with a car sale- i have also had someone offer to pay more for one of my cars while going through that sale process, i just couldnt morally do that, and glad i didnt as i can see how it impacted you!
pleased you got to enjoy it though- while im not in that ball park, i always respect the porsches, but i have to say the same, dont do it for me- i think your v8 vantage you traded in is a more "special" car
Outstanding video. You guys rock! Love you :)
Thank you 👍🏻👍🏻
I totally get what you said about a car being too good. Perfect can be boring. It’s particularly applicable to a lot of modern cars.
Glad you understand
You should get a 288 GTO. It is more driver friendly I than the F40. That is what I hear. It is just a pretty. I think the 355 is a modern day equal to the 288. Especially for a person like me that likely will never be able to afford a 288. 400 HP is a nice amount for the road.
An F50 would be a nice piece of sound monster to be in your garage. No person would ever say sorry for their regrets of selling their cars except you! I salute you Damian.
👍🏻👍🏻
Damian Project - Get all five back in the next 5 years.
Dear Damian better to have these regrets that not making experience of those beatiful cars at all. :-)The wheel is turning ! Congratulations for your channel, love the style and the content!(if I was in your shoes I'd consider a 993 turbo as a possible future purchase)
👏🏻👏🏻
Another brilliant video, thanks for sharing. 😊😊😊
Cheers, Mark
You always do a quality video with both your cars and watches. Top quality 👍
Thank you! 👍
What a video Damian! Takes a lot to admit one’s mistakes so hats off! Very very interesting video. Was wondering if I would part with my ‘95 993 C2 but watching this video might change my mind. Then, you tell about the 997.2 TTS and I always wanted a 997.2 TT because I love the thrust of this car so much, it literally is a rocket and easy to drive - makes you feel like a talented driver which I am not. I’d like to also add a 991.2 Touring (and 997.2 TT) to accompany my 993.
Thank you for those kind words, Luke
I bought a 996.2 GT3 almost 3 years ago. I am totally in love with that car….
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Great content Damian, feel your pain, more watch guys please 😉
👍🏻👍🏻
Not had as many exciting cars as this early 2000s I had a really quiet sheddy scirocco and it was probably a high point being only 21 at the time it was great when you drove it , it had a gear stick that was curved back and an engine that was throaty didn't really stop that well and developed a fuel leak from the filler neck which I could apparently could have fixed with body filler but the day it went was the lowest point of car ownership , even the Ibiza GTI wasn't as low as when the scirocco went . My first car was an Austin maestro which should come under the cars I should never have bought banner but was so easy to work on it actually became fun to own and never actually broke down merely a clutch cable went taking 10 mins to fit a new one.
This was a great video and I found it extremely useful in a reverse sort of way. I’m about to pick up my first 911 ever. But as the day draws nearer, I’m having doubts cos it’s such a jump in terms of price from all the cars I have ever bought. Seeing three 911s on Damien’s list of regrets is quite a boost to my confidence. I guess there’s gotta be something really special about them cars.
There is. Which one are you going for?
992 Carrera T. What do you think? Endorsed?
@@bto7779 I am toying with getting one too..
I scoffed when you sold that F40 , and now I feel your pain .
Mate you are a humble petrolhead and I’ve got a lot of time for you, yes the F40 is gone and as you know me I would be gutted too , I’m sure we know where this is going , you will address the problem, bet ya!
Definitely have to go this event next year
Good to hear someone self criticise in todays world. We all make mistakes, at least you can put it right!
👍🏻👍🏻
Love this .
I too trades my AM vantage for a 991 gen 2 turbo ( always wanted a 911 turbo )
Daily drove it here in LA for 2 years
and also found it honestly perfectly boring .
Brilliant but not involving to drive .
Glad you said it as always thought it was me
👍🏻
Damian…….love your upfront honesty Pal. Refreshing & Hammers home…….bit like my Special Fri night Vodka……..Damian the 1st 911 you had & sold can’t have been that long ago as You look V similar to Today! You age well………..stressless life Bud? 😊
@spikeferesten You should watch this clip, at the 9:30 mark....ties in to what you were discussing on your podcast and what Chris Harris said about Porsche!
I'm not in your league but I ran a TVR Cerbera for a few years then had to sell for personal reasons. Went to Les Man's in it a few times and loved it. There is someone local who drives around in a battered old one, and I wipe a tear away every time it goes past ..... 😢
Proper car, that
997 Turbo is an amazing car. Going to be a classic!
All about the F40 dude ,I was screaming at my iPad when you were selling that 😩
Forget the F40 - It's in your past - An LFA is what you need in your future 👍
You little tease
Am so with you on that. An F40 is iconic, but the LFA is magical.
He already had a TDF.
LFA ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Forget F40 and LFA, get a 288 GTO instead.
Nice sookie la la (Australianism) video, I’m sure you can wipe your tears away by walking into your awesome garage!!
Good video, keep up the great work!!
👍🏻👍🏻
Re 991 Turbo S: sound like part of the lyric to ‘Last Christmas’ by Wham ;)
Awww, what a “sad” story of regret and I feel your pain Damien. Don’t worry, everyone here on earth had regrets because we are humans. It hurts me too when I say it. Thank you for sharing 🙏🇬🇧
Thank you for watching
@@TheCarGuysTV much welcome and will continue watching your great channel 🙏🇬🇧
The McLaren 675LT is a keeper isn’t it? It’s a very special car and in a near future will be worth much more.
Never really got why you sold that F40, but maybe a non owner never would. But that 911 Targa, I think I'd take that over anything else in your collection. Just so cool.
👌🏻
Buy yourself that 288 GTO you always wanted and you will never think back to your F40 or the other cars you sold.
Oh dear, oh dear...I told you not to sell that F40 at the time! But the man who never made a mistake, never truly lived: We all do it. As master Yoda said: "Failure, our greatest teacher is." So onwards and upwards Damian. 👍🏻 Great episode, love the open honesty. Please keep them coming. 😃
Thanks, Peter. I'm glad someone finally used the Yoda line.
Damian, YOU had an F40: Not many people can say that! 👍🏻
Damian, great video! BTW, you are looking very fit! Good job!
Appreciate that
I’m convinced that as we move towards electric future, engines will be as classic as some of the cars. You have a Mezger gap in your garage! Well GT1 based mezger
Awesome video. I regret selling my Porsche Macan S. I also regret crashing my 992 911 S. my insurance now is very expensive.
Hi Damien ,
Love the channel
Can you test a Lexus LC 500 please ?
I’d love your unbiased review
I would love to
What about an episode on the cars that got away/you didn't buy? You could start with the 205 GTi you didn't buy ;)
I am the 4th owner of a 996.2 GT3 in seal grey metallic. It's just incredible, special and meant to be driven spiritedly.
👍🏻👍🏻
Tbf I bet you did ok out the F40 and the Speciale aperta is rising a few quid!
Great video as always. I once sold a 930 Turbo for 14k.
Big regret. We do things sometimes we wish we hadn't. Part of life I suppose. Still hurts though 🤣
Wow - that’s a big one!
It's better to have lost in love than to have never loved at all great car back story DB can we hear Jason's too ?
Are you listening, Jason?
F40 is my dream car. I remember going to the craziest auction of all times, the "Duemila Ruote" in Milan some years and there was a "cheap" example for 750k euro.... How much is one now, 1.8M? Anyway, I remember when you said you had sold the F40 and my first thought was "no f*cking way!".
😂😂
100k in sight. Come on.
F40; hope you get one back.
It's a nice to 'aim for' & keep you going.
The journey is always better than the destination.
👏🏻👏🏻
That 993 👌 Even after all these years the F40 is still pinnacle Ferrari IMO.
Is that a Turbo S in Waitrose carpark? 🤔
I'll be looking out for you in future DB! 😂
They say never go back to an ex. Unless said ex is an F40….
Not a Ferrari fan in any way, but F40 is one of the highlights of man kind. Damn even I could not sell it if ever I had one...
Better to have loved and lost than to never have loved at all..
That was quite sad, oh the F40. This has highlighted one thing, you need to build a bigger garage = keep more cars. Take care.
😂😂
Damian have a great taste "speccing" cars, luscious hair ,its fit like an athlete and we know he made some mistakes along his car collecting history (losing maybe a couple of quids in the process🥲) BUT thats part of his journey that we have a chance to witness.
Thanks D!
Aytkta Have you started on My Special Vodka without Me?
@@martingetliffe 😂😂😂
We all make car mistakes. Sometimes there not mistakes there needs must sales. Either way you’ve done it. Forgive yourself and replace them if you can.
Don’t be sad. They are only things.
Indeed
Damien, I am always very happy with the Car Guys channel; but I was always mad at you for selling the Ferrari F40. I will always treasure the memories I had when I heard and saw a 288 GTO pull into the reception at Maranello and park in front of me, in 1987, alas I didn't ask for a lift lol. I got a B/W photo but I lost the negative in the post when it was sent out with an idea for a story to Enzo magazine. At least I had a digital copy, but the quality is very questionable, and the copy of Ferrari Story that I got around the same time in 1987 about an F40 was damaged by a water leak in my apartment a few years ago.
Damien, if I as a Ferrari enthusiast am very very sad because I lost a negative and have a ruined magazine and lost memories, I can't believe how you are feeling inside.
You've got to get another F40!!
👍🏻👍🏻
You should have kept the Carrera T.
Heartfelt. Here's to 100K subs.
👏🏻👏🏻
What did you not love about the F12tdf? I think of it as my grail car, but I've never driven one.
Damian, your 993 is still alive! It’s been registered “993 LPB” since January 2011. Was MOT’d in January this year at 123k and a list of advisories. But it’s still alive! Track it down and do a series of restoring it?!
Thank you for finding it 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
sorry for my comment yesterday concerning your F40, I didn't see this vid...and I did not realize your regrets.
After all , what goes up must come down .. maybe one day . Like you said , there are 1315 around.
Not on the same level as you Damian but I do regret selling my 72 240z 30 years ago and my 986 later on...still got my supercharged mx5 and love it but wish I could kept them all....peace
👍🏻👍🏻
I love to hear someone slag Porsche Bournemouth, they absolutely deserve all of the stick that they get.
also a 1990 UR RR quattro in white...perfect original condition. No rust just mint in every aspect....250k Euro
Wow!
Damian I did mention selling the TDF before it heavily depreciated and certainly not to sell the F40 🚫. You should have had the F40, Speciale, GT3 Touring, 930 Turbo and NSX in your collection, sold everything else and maybe one day bought a Ferrari F50. I also had a soft spot for the Clio Williams at relatively little money.
997 Turbo S still massively under the radar and under appreciated, so values still not crazy…for now. Get back in one before the wider market realizes how amazing they are.
👍🏻👍🏻
@@TheCarGuysTV I got one in Jan 2021, the 911 turbo being my dream/poster car as a kid…so if you ever do ‘Drive Every Porsche’!…come out to Seattle and have another go.

You can pick up another RS6 anytime. Loads for sale for not that much money. 👍
True
@@TheCarGuysTV not to rub salt in the wounds but I never understood your decision to sell the F40. I'd have sold everything else in the garage to keep that in the stable tbf. At least you've be custodian of one though. Unfortunately I doubt I will ever be in a position to drive one let alone own one. You are a very fortunate fella Damian. Thanks for sharing your ownership experiences to us normal randoms. Very much appreciated 👍
You can add the TDF to the list. At the time, I thought it a good move, but have they ever got my attention now.
I don’t regret selling that at all
Hi Guys, thanks for the great content, I am looking to buy either a 718 spyder or 911T which would you go for?? for me it'll be a weekend car. Thank you.
Spyder 👌
I think they are both fantastic - just depends on wether you want the open top experience or not - plus THAT roof.
Hi, my name is Randall. I don't think you deserve any humble pie for selling a car. You purchased it, enjoyed for a time, and when it was time, you moved on. Like women. Each car has a season. We are just care takers of them for a time. I think at heart you buy cars you like, not to make money on them. I'm not a wealthy person. My first car was a used U.S. Renault LeCar Black Beauty version. I have my first dream car, the Renault R5 Turbo2. The Ultimate Renault of the early 80s. Like you say there is a limit to how many cars you can have for various reasons. If your situation warrants, you sell. I have never sold a car. I have junked two. Both Renaults. My first new car is my MR2 Turbo. My dream is a F355 GTS. You have had some awesome cars. Don't regret selling, you make it possible for someone else's dream to come true!!
Regrets.. I’ve had a few… but then again too few to mention.. I did what I had to do.. I saw it through without exemption.. I planned each chartered course.. each careful step along the byway.. and more much much more .. I did it my way…..
👏🏻👏🏻
God I miss selling my 718 Spyder.. and F12 in TDF blue.. 😭. Great video as ever! Keep em coming!
