90s the best decade for me - 1996-99 particularly, so many legends launched during those 3 years…Elise, Evo 6, 306 rallye, TVR cerebra, E39 M5 and DC2 integra being my top six ❤
Very inspiring message about attaining one's dreams, Damian. Would love to see a review on the modern NSX. People's opinions of that car have not exactly matched the sales results.
The 90s were indeed the absolute best. My garage over the years has moved away from modern to almost all 90s cars. Its better to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow. And with the reliabilty and comfort of the 90s cars... this is the absolute sweet spot.
For me there are two cars that encapsulate everything good about the 90's. The E31 BMW 850csi. Is there anything more cool past or present? Quad cam V12 with pop ups, without the Ferrari pricetag. The other is the Lotus Carlton. Take a Vauxhall Carlton GSI and let Lotus change it so much, that Vauxhall no longer wanted their badge or name to have anything to do with it 😂 GM told Lotus to go to town with these cars, and they did. They increased the displacement of the engine, used forged pistons and rods, converted it to be turbocharged, wide arches and wider wheels, bigger brakes, complete suspension upgrade and they were only painted in dark green. Oh and they had a higher top speed than most supercars of the time as well 😂 bonkers stuff that could only have happened in the early 90's. The concorde era of "screw it, lets just do it anyway"
The fiat coupe is simply one of the most beautiful looking cars ever made, it is a work of art. The 20vt is off the scale performance wise. I own one, ive always wanted one ever since i saw one in leeds cc in 1996!
Having bought my dad’s then 6 year old 300E back in 1997.. (I’m a similar age to you..) the 500E has always been one of my favourites.. The subtle muscular styling is spot on.. would love to have one, but.. that ship has sailed now. Great video!!! Love it!
If you have never driven a Ford Escort Cosworth you won't actually want one, I drove one when they came out at a Ford dealer, with great excitement I had already mentally bought it it was only after driving it I decided it wasn't for me. It was awful, soft imprecise, and just horrible. I drove an 2.5 EVO E30 M3 and it was in a totally different league, that made me always want one and my E30 M3 I owned later for 5+ years was fantastic. Save your money I'd take a mint EVO Lancia Integrale and a mint E30 M3 EVO and leave the rest (sorry)
The original NSX got a mild facelift in 97 / 98 in the form of perforated leather seats, new style wheels and a 3.2ltr engine with a 6 speed manual box. Still retained the pop up headlights. V-Tec howl at 5k and up was fantastic.
I'd still take a Nissan Bluebird over the vast majority of cars (all of 'em) - I loved them. I drive a '96 Celica, much as I love that, I'd swap it for an 80's Carina or a Bluebird. They just had "something" about them. The 90's Carina was also a cracking car - tough, comfy, fast enough..
Just wonderful Damian. Could not agree more, just so many gorgeous wonderful cars in the 90’s, the hard bit of course is finding a nice one that has not been ragged to death. Prices are going skyward mainly because ‘fun’ stuff is getting SO rare now. 😢
Some great choices there, but as a South African my list would include a few South African only "Specials... The Opel Kadett 200 GSi "Superboss" Either one of the Opel Kadett or Astra 200TS The BMW e30 325is EVOII Great choice on the Nissan though, I had a friend in South Africa that had the turbo model, that thing was brutal on the highway, Nissan also had two very popular models there too in the form of the Sentra 200 STi and the Sabre 200 GXi, both 2L 16V that could hold their own on the street against much bigger and more powerful cars...
The design languages developed in the mid eighties through the early to mid90s by European and Japanese car manufacturers were the most subdued and elegant.... Modern cars have a cheap facade draped over technological features that feels hollow and soulless
Great video! I bought the first Miata, june 16th 1989, received at my town dealer, Québec Canada. The sound of this very first generation was incredible. Kept it for 21 years, sold it with less than 80 000 kms! No regret, good memories. Salutations du 🇨🇦
993 911 Turbo S, never knew it was that quick. Every day is a school day. Mr B, you are smashing these video’s. It’s helping me get over a hangover from Hell……charity do yesterday for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance. I drank that much I thought they’d have to scramble the Chooper!
Great list Damien, what about the 560SEC. Although they are cars from the late 80s. I had one for 12 years. Sensational car. Should have kept it. The MX5 and NSX are my pick on your list.
Missed my favourite……the Porsche 968 Club Sport…..or the almost unobtainable turbo version thereof. One of the best handling cars I have driven, great on the twistiest, or motorway.
thanks for such a GREAT video and bringing back teenage years memories. 2 cars I remember lusting after were: Honda CRX (folding roof model) and Porsche 911 flat nose. Also (VERY rare) Yamaha ox99-11. (What an amazing-looking car...in my opinion)
Well done! I love all the cars on your list, I would definitely add the Skyline R33 GTR, Honda Civic Vtec and two cars made in South Africa, BMW e30 325is and a Opel Kadett Superboss.
Great oration, beautifully constructed sentences and entertainingly delivered, reading all those car magazines as a youth surely paid off. Ahh you have an e38, you own some interesting metal Sir. All wind tunnel blobs these days, the 90's were special car years. And yes Chris Bangle's designs have not aged well.
Great vid and no surprises that japanese cars feature so heavily. They were the pinicle of the 90s. Id take a healthy 200sx s14a over fiat coupe and the 300zx.. for its rear wheel drive, light weight, high driver engagement, but i think they go under the radar somewhat and are pretty damn rare in good condition now.
Hey Damian, Love these videos. I once Co-drove an Escort Cosworth to Le Mans and back (yr 2000) . It was a lovely mile muncher. I look forward to a future Car Guys review of this special car. My 1990’s choice would probably be a 928 GTS.
Some great choices, I also have an irrational soft spot for the Fiat Coupe 20v, I remember test driving the demonstration car at my local Fiat dealer and loved it.
My list of 90s cars would be a Toyota MR2 second gen, a Nissan 300zx, a first gen NSX and a last gen NSX type R, a Lotus Omega, a Ford Escort Cosworth, a 993 911 Turbo (S if available), a 928 GTS, a Ferrari 512TR, a Ferrari 355 berlinetta, manual if possible, a Lamborghini Diablo SE (Jota if possible) and a first gen Diablo VT. I would not mind a 90's BMW M5 V8 but would not hunt for one. I would like a Peugeot 205 GTI (I once could have bought two for 6k euros, I am officially an idiot). I would like a peugeot 405 Mi16. I like the Subaru SVX, but would like a manual conversion. I like the Isuzu Vehicross. Would love a good Land Cruiser and a Hilux of the period and some sort of ragtop Jeep. I own a Nissan Terrano, which is a 90s car, mine is a 2000 though. I'm sure there is more, but off the top of my head I think it's a nice collection of the period, and somewhat representative of the best done at the time. Oh, forgot the Mclaren F1, just to slum it a bit. :D
Some of the best cars were made in the 90's. They were a great example of the old blending with the newer. Cars became over engineered after this period. Yes the modern buyer wanted this and that, but what they didn't need was what they wanted.
I'm with you my friend. I loved my Z32 TT. They're now considered vintage, so here in Australia you won't find even a reasonable example of that great car for less than $30,000AUD.
Always had a soft spot for a 928 S4 myself. You seem to be waving your arms around a lot in recent videos, reminds me of one of those inflatables fluttering away in the wind at an American car dealers! You said we could criticise, sorry🤭 I still never miss an upload though.
Brilliant piece. Some good choices but I think the Lancia delta evo2 is missing. Criminal to miss it tbh. I remember 91 going up to Birmingham's Rainbow casino in a black Supra turbo. The looks we got were immense. An amazing car.
I have to say that I thought that your introductory message for people to get off their asses and work hard so they can realise their dreams was perfect a few too many seem to think that they are entitled to a beautiful car. Loved most of your choices, and I agree on the 993 turbo S, they just look so squat and ready to launch! 😊
This is why classics are classics. It's about buying the dreams of your youth when you can finally afford it....and, obviously, they're rarer through attrition.
Love that 500E, not just for the Porsche engine but that was the last overengineered Merc before the beancounters wrecked the build quality. Brings back fond memories of my 1990 190E in Amaranthine (metallic bruise) which I'd also have back in a heartbeat!
Ummmm.... Porsche engine? Hmmm I think you might very well find a number of Benz engineers still smiling from behind their steel rimmed spectacles - but twitching ever so slightly!! To save them from imploding - the M119 engine at 4973cc was most definitely lifted lock, stock and big chested barrel from the R119 Mercedes Benz 500SL. Athough Porsche had to widen the front frame rails, re-work the firewall, and massage a few other components to get everything to jive, the engine itself was standard, sporting identical 326PS/354lbft power/torque figures to the donor car. I hope any nearby Mercedes engine developers nearby can now unclench 😏
They was the best days and I had my dream cars except the R34 gtr which I always regret, had the Subaru still RA, Pulsar Gtir which no one ever mentions but they was amazing, intergrale, god I miss those days so bad
I had a 1995 na300ZX (U.S.) until 2021. It was a dependable daily driver and practical too thanks to the hatchback and a joy to drive on back roads. When it became unfixable I found a 350Z which is a bit faster but has few other advantages for my purposes. I hope to find another ZX soon, probably another na manual. When I do there will be a 350Z on the US market.
Not too many on the list do it for me but the NSX is a star. I remember going to a Honda dealer and wondering how on earth this could have come from the maker of Preludes and Civics! I still fancy buying an NSX, and of course the Integrale and 355. Yes please!
Agree with every one of your examples. However, the 280 Z always gives me a knee wobble. @ 63 I lived among all these glorious creatures of living steel. No one will be drooling at an ev in 33 years time, thats for sure, even if they don't self 🔥 😉 Another important feature of those cars is how they reflect the human race of the era. In my opinion, human evolution peaked late 80's to late 90's and has declined drastically since. Great people made amazing cars.
90's cars are a bit special, they have the right amount of electronics and still retain simplicity and efficiency of design. We will look back on this era as a technological sweet spot, as our tesla mk 666 takes us to the suicide booth.
Im with you on that, 90s cars had just the correct balance of tech but without driving a computer, design wise a mix of 80s and todays styling. In fact the 90s in my opinion had just the right balance in many ways and not just the car industry
My brother had an RX-7 affini in black. It was an ex-show car and had done no miles when he bought it for a song. But then he sold it before the engine reached its first big service. I should have bought it off him and kept it.
I mean... You were standing right next to a beautiful yellow Integrale that looks to be in splendid condition. Why not take it home with you if you can afford it and rectify said criminal situation? I have been fortunate enough to ride along in several of them going up and down mountain roads, it is such a hoot and bursts of charme. I sincerely doubt any of your Top 10 could rival it in those categories, even if they are all great machines.
I'm from the USA...we only had the 1st generation NSX, not the 2nd, or the type R. Being from Ohio, and being a truck driver that used to deliver to the main Honda plant in 2016, I got to see one in person (since the new NSX was being built in the nearby PMC...Performance Motor Center), before it was released to the public. I think you should review the newer NSX
I have a good Supra story, a friend of my dad shipped Dutch Bavaria beer to Saudi Arabia for the 1st war in the Gulf, the only 0% alcohol free beer at that moment and these containers where coming back empty so my dad went to Saudi Arabia and bought loads of Supra's. The Celica Supra's where the creasiest with big wings and wheel archers and digital dashboards, a lot of cool stuff they just drove for a short time and dumped them for very low prices but a lot of work to get all the sand out which became my job 🙁😁
Always like these videos Great choices and here is my list Lotus Carlton Diablo sv Ferrari 512tr Alpine a610 turbo Range Rover classic v8 Bmw 850csi Ferrari 456gt Ferrari 550 Venturi 400gt 993 turbo s
Here in NZ with our easy access to Japanese Imports, its 1990's heaven! Just down the road from me there's a chap with 2 - yes TWO - Fiat Coupes parked out on the road in front of his house!
The "S"-Model of the 993 offers 450 PS. 408PS where the Standard, Workspowertuning (Werksleistungsteigerung WLS1) offers 430PS and the later WLS2 offers 450PS (that was standard in the S-Model)
I'd argue strongly that these 90s cars are better build, better engineered and actually safer - devoid of ridiculous touchscreen, assisted everything and increasingly poor build with substandard quality parts. All cars have both a short shelf life and far too much complexity with often costs far too much to fix. Cars from the 90s were engineered not build to a cost. Excellent video
A Great choice in the day I did have the Escort Cos Lux in Mallard Green, MX5 in white & Toyota Supra in Silver but non turbo import but sadly never kept them, the one I wished I kept was the Escort, always the favourite..
NSX, 300ZX, Lotus Elan. are on my 90's list. But I'm a little older.. I go late 80's. MR2 (I really miss mine) Mitsubishi Eclipse turbo, 88 200SX. Supra. Ferrari and Lambo of course.
If Chris Bangle won the right to design the Fiat Coupe, how come the image of the painted dash at 5.26 has a Pininfarina badge slapped across it? Any thoughts?
Great list many of them are on my list at well. Most of them I can't afford and or weren't sold here in the US. Importing cars here is not easy and in some cases are impossible to actually be legal here.
The Honda NSX was helped tuned by Ayrton Senna The Toyota supra was a twin turbo 326bhp I once owned a sierra sapphire RS Cosworth went to buy a Nissan 300ZX and was disappointed the 300ZX looked lovely but even though it had 280bhp it felt so much slower than my Cossie maybe because the 4 cylinder Cosworth felt more punchy against the smoother 6 cylinder ZX300. The RS Cosworth was the best fun I ever had in a car.. However had a couple of Astra GTE'S and they were fun, But the cossie is a complete different beast against everything i have driven. Especially with the turbo lag of a bigger turbo which pins you too the seat when it comes in.
I really wish Mazda had updated the FC2 RX-7 six port engine and offered it as a lower spec option for the FD. That six port was super reliable and I’m sure they could have found another 20 hp. Maybe then we’d have been able to see more of these beauties on the road.
I worked for a Ford dealer in car sales for a few years and our MD had an RS500 that we used to take out for a blast. Then a sierra cosworth sapphire. We also had the RS1600i escort which I bought from a trade in cheaply. Then the escort RS turbos. Which were good but not as raw as the 1600i. Also had Audi Quattro, Peugeot 205 1.9 and we took a metro 6r4 in as a trade on a sapphire cosworth. We enjoyed a month of driving that vehicle from hell around the backroads of the NE. New cars nowadays !!! BORING.
Just awesome. My first car was the amazeballs 205 GTI 1.9GTI, non PAS and should never have sold it to buy that (although very beautiful) dodgy Chimaera 500 which stranded me on many occasion! Big thank you for the trip down memory lane, and a great list Damian, but a big NO!!! to the Fiat. It's a FIAT FFS!
Watching this video I realised I get far more excited about those 90s cars than modern day supercars.
I’m the same
Me too. 60's, 80's and 90's do it for me
90s the best decade for me - 1996-99 particularly, so many legends launched during those 3 years…Elise, Evo 6, 306 rallye, TVR cerebra, E39 M5 and DC2 integra being my top six ❤
A pal of mine had the Fiat Coupe,he was affectionately Known as ‘grumpy’ Dave, this car had him laughing and smiling , we wanted grumpy Dave back😂
I had a 3rd gen Supra 3.0 Turbo back in the late 90's. Chopped it in for a 1.8 LX Mondeo and regretted it ever since.
Very inspiring message about attaining one's dreams, Damian. Would love to see a review on the modern NSX. People's opinions of that car have not exactly matched the sales results.
90s the pinnacle of car design, the RX7 has to be the highlight for me.
The 90s were indeed the absolute best. My garage over the years has moved away from modern to almost all 90s cars. Its better to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow. And with the reliabilty and comfort of the 90s cars... this is the absolute sweet spot.

Bought a Honda Civic Del Sol, new. in 1993 and still drive it daily. All you need want and require! Greetings from a Brit residing in the USA.
👍🏻👍🏻
Love that Fiat coupe and the interior dash! Superb in that blue! What a lovely 90s gem! Great video as always Damian! Love the channel!
Glad you enjoyed it
I own a 20vt coupe, had it resprayed in rs focus lime green which looks spot on! Beautiful car
I would have a 1997 Honda NSX with the larger 3.2 V6.
The NSX Type S-Zero, was able to lap Suzuka 1.5 seconds faster than the NSX-R.
Great video! I bought the first Miata, june 16th 1989, received at my town dealer, Québec Canada. The sound of this very first generation was incredible. Kept it for 21 years, sold it with less than 80 000 kms! No regret, good memories. Salutations du 🇨🇦
The best looking Acura NSX was the model with the pop up headlights.
Absolutely

There is a 500e near me. He has a standard e class of the same age too. Side on they look very similar but once you spot that stance … too cool 😎
thanks for such a GREAT video and bringing back teenage years memories. 2 cars I remember lusting after were: Honda CRX (folding roof model) and Porsche 911 flat nose. Also (VERY rare) Yamaha ox99-11. (What an amazing-looking car...in my opinion)

Congratulations for your choice of cars and for your channel. My suggestions: Volvo 850 T-5R... and BMW 8 Series E31.
I like both of those, I want an e31 but it has to be in M parallels and without the lower csi bumper trims
Good choices
But the T-5R has to be yellow
@@Dannycrm Absolutely!!

The 993 was the perfect air cooled 911, it was Porsche at its best, the turbo was its best I adore that turbo 993.

Next episode. Yes ladies and gents I bought that delta inter grape in yellow
Some nice cars on that list, Damian. Love the 500E. Would like to see the 2016-> NSX on the channel.
I also got my driving license in the early 90s. I was always dreaming about owning a Toyota MR2 Turbo W20
Mitsubishi Colt Starion Turbo for me. I've never even sat in one but, oh, definitely one of my favourites 😎
I've driven the new NSX. I had low expectations but was really impressed.
Great stuff! The nineties brought us some lousy music but some amazing cars. Surely 'peak' motor car?
Could be
I've owned 2 of those and there are 2 more on the list that are must haves before I'm gone, great selection IMO.
I owned a new Subaru 22B in 1998, picked it up at the factory gates in Mitaka Tokyo
An amazing Super Car!
Wow - that's so cool

When I do there will be a 350Z on the US market.
Not too many on the list do it for me but the NSX is a star. I remember going to a Honda dealer and wondering how on earth this could have come from the maker of Preludes and Civics! I still fancy buying an NSX, and of course the Integrale and 355. Yes please!
Great choice on the 300ZX. I love that car and always wanted one.
Not quite of the 90’s era but just tipping into the 2000’s is my dream motor .. the BMW M3 E46 CSL.. peeeeeerfection.
Yes to latest NSX review plz, luv your guys’ content.
Rx7 most beautiful Jap car ever
So with you on the Fiat Coupe, I’d also suggest the similar era Alfa Spider V6
Agree with every one of your examples.
However, the 280 Z always gives me a knee wobble.
@ 63 I lived among all these glorious creatures of living steel.
No one will be drooling at an ev in 33 years time, thats for sure, even if they don't self 🔥
😉
Another important feature of those cars is how they reflect the human race of the era.
In my opinion, human evolution peaked late 80's to late 90's and has declined drastically since.
Great people made amazing cars.
I have a 93 Nissan 300zx convertible .......I love it and get lots of compliments when I do drive it 😎
That is awesome!
@@easydrive3662 Preach my man, preach. 👍
"before he ruined BMW", you nailed it with british humor.😅
👍🏻
993 turbo S. all day. One of the best looking cars ever in the flesh. And I’m not really a Porsche fan.
Great show brings back memories
I’m always looking for an E500 but getting more and more expensive, especially the low mileage ones. Never forget my first ride in one.
Driven an NSX R - Best sports car ever!
Do try the 2016 NSX...love to hear you thoughts on it...and what is Jason's 90's top 10.
Always like these videos
Great choices and here is my list
Lotus Carlton
Diablo sv
Ferrari 512tr
Alpine a610 turbo
Range Rover classic v8
Bmw 850csi
Ferrari 456gt
Ferrari 550
Venturi 400gt
993 turbo s
Definitely want to see a review on the modern NSX!
For me my dream car from the 90’s is the Alpina B12. Basically a tuned version of the BMW 850CSI with a V-12 and six speed manual….nuff said!
Hartge: Hold my beer.
Here in NZ with our easy access to Japanese Imports, its 1990's heaven! Just down the road from me there's a chap with 2 - yes TWO - Fiat Coupes parked out on the road in front of his house!
Legends
Thanks, Richie - couldn’t agree more
What about bmw z3 coupe, lotus esprit, alpine a610, some venturi's, aston martin db7, nissan skyline's, lan-evo ? 🤩
Nr 1 on my 90’list is The BMW 850CSi…
Mrk 1 MR2..loved mine...wish i still had it !......
A Great choice in the day I did have the Escort Cos Lux in Mallard Green, MX5 in white & Toyota Supra in Silver but non turbo import but sadly never kept them, the one I wished I kept was the Escort, always the favourite..
Some interesting choices and er well some stinkers imho. I would have included a 3000GT, 850CSi ( as its a manual) XJ220 and a Tommi evo.
Always wanted a blue Fiat Coupe. Test drove a couple, but ended up with an Alfa GTV. Oh well 🙂
I have owned rx-8, ls400 , integrale 1993.. your list is close to mine..Integrale was a nightmare to maintain.. was always breaking..
NSX, 300ZX, Lotus Elan. are on my 90's list. But I'm a little older.. I go late 80's. MR2 (I really miss mine) Mitsubishi Eclipse turbo, 88 200SX. Supra. Ferrari and Lambo of course.
That little yellow monster is the business.
If Chris Bangle won the right to design the Fiat Coupe, how come the image of the painted dash at 5.26 has a Pininfarina badge slapped across it?
Any thoughts?
I reckon Pininfarina designed the interior
Great list many of them are on my list at well. Most of them I can't afford and or weren't sold here in the US. Importing cars here is not easy and in some cases are impossible to actually be legal here.
The Honda NSX was helped tuned by Ayrton Senna
The Toyota supra was a twin turbo 326bhp
I once owned a sierra sapphire RS Cosworth went to buy a Nissan 300ZX and was disappointed the 300ZX looked lovely
but even though it had 280bhp it felt so much slower than my Cossie maybe because the 4 cylinder Cosworth felt more punchy against the smoother 6 cylinder ZX300.
Some interesting choices here...good they are not all exotics 😊
My pick is in that garage that integrale is sublime
Lol’d to “before the weight of the world crushed our spirits” lolol
👍🏻👍🏻
BORING.
Your intro is so nineties ...
Nice list. I would add a Datsun 280z!
Looking great fella, well done. Less finger pointing would be nice 👈🏻
👍🏻👍🏻
Just awesome. My first car was the amazeballs 205 GTI 1.9GTI, non PAS and should never have sold it to buy that (although very beautiful) dodgy Chimaera 500 which stranded me on many occasion!
Big thank you for the trip down memory lane, and a great list Damian, but a big NO!!! to the Fiat. It's a FIAT FFS!
Honda NSX please Damien, great review
I loved the Porshe 928S and 944
