Dude, your video was the only video that helped me. My father has a Craftsman 917 series tractor mower and I swear someone put a John Deer deck on it because I was looking through videos to figure out the deck belt routing and I saw the thumbnail for your video. Sure enough it's the same deck. Thank God for your video

This video is right up my alley. Simple yet effective. My belt snapped. I tested all the spindles and pulleys and noticed the 2x 3 5/8 pulleys on my LA145 were not free spinners like the rest of the deck. Thankfully Amazon can get me them in 2 days. Everywhere else was 4-5 days (weekend included). I waited an extra day to fix but I don't think it's wise to put a new belt on a deck if there's a reasonable chance to snap the belt again with tight pulleys.

After watching this vid, it took me less than 45mins to remove the deck, replace the belt, and put the deck back on. The tips made all the difference and I thank you for that.

Aww man God Bless you. So many small tips and tricks probably would have spent 4 more hours wrestling with the deck had I not watched it. Thank you so much. I'm going to watch all your videos now

I was going to search for a belt diagram, but took a screen shot during your video instead, thanks. Next time I change out the blades I will definitely just drop the deck, so easy now that I've done it once!

I expect this mower will last several seasons with decent care. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkx1VWTrayKBdCKAjzAcZ_Eg4dhHTae3LkN also recommend Also, I ran across the problem with it not starting the 2nd time I used it. There is a safety switch which is pushed in by the chute or mulching piece being attached to the deck. I took the cover off and it wouldn't start. Put it back on, no problem. It takes only a minute with 2 easily accessible wingnuts and no tools. This mower starts up first crank each time and it is a joy to use. It also mows in reverse by putting the key to the reverse area after starting and pushing in the triangular button. It will stay in reverse mode until you turn it off. All in all, for my homeowner needs, I really like this mower-and at 70 bucks a cut here in Miami, it's already more than 1/3 paid for itself in a month.

I had a further problem while installing a new belt. The replacement was so stiff that I couldn't get it to stay around the pulleys. After reinstalling the 4-screw cover and muscling the deck back into place, the new belt came off the far left pulley. I tried removing the cover to see if I could get it to loop back, but no dice. I had to take the whole thing back apart again, only this time I left the covers off and reinstalled them after the deck was mounted again and the belt was properly seated.

I found alot of problems on mine my friend who i do alot of work for gave me and he said it was in the shop and that the engine was rebuilt but I've checked and part of the engine was i don't see why reuse old hard gas lines on one that was rebuilt and a dirty carburetor and the shop used wrong gasket maker on the valve cover shop kept i guess the original coil on it its a 1999 coil still good but its not new the flywheel is a 2005 so the shop put that on the cylinder is new the valves are new
But the shop couldn't figure out why it wouldn't start up and it was just a few safety wires needing twisted together some white ones just cut off
And the wire that kept them from starting it up was the white wire going to a yellow button and one to the top of the coil. It was grounding it out as they were trying to start it up probably won't need half the relays they've got on that Lt155 after disconnecting all the safety buttons that causes problems

@7:34 How do you get space between the guard and the pulley to slip the belt through? I have the 54" deck, and the pulleys don't move away from the guards. If they are lose like that, they won't protect your belt from slipping and unspooling. I've had to remove the pulley and pull it up to put the belt on. Also, the move the deck forward trick helps if you removed the deck; but the tensioner pulley can be used if the deck is on, instead. With a wrench, move it forward, and the tension is reduced enough to slip it on the drive pulley. Again, I have the 54", so these may be differences between it and the 48" deck.

I have John Deere S160 and I don't need to take the deck out. You can put the new belt while the deck is still in place. Good video though!!

I have an E140 and the deck belt goes on the same way. I had to bend those tabs on a couple pulleys because I took off the nut and the pulley still wouldn't lift off. I paid $40 for my official JD E140 belt. They screw ya for John Deere parts. Also, I couldn't stretch my belt around my pto pulley so I disconnected the 5 hanging pins and put the belt on the pulley first and then hung the deck again.

    • @jansaari1047

The belt becomes tight after you refit the deck. If you put the deck back on first, then it is a little bit hard to get the belt around the forward pulley.

He mentions, in on screen text, that the last part of the video was from an older video. That's why the belt is off the front pulley when he fits the front bar back on. He just wanted to show the viewers that the front bar has a washer behind the pin.

But your belt was ready to break and it was a little short they say that they don't actually stretch they only get skinnier and wear out or too sloppy. Just saying from a video done by a mechanic that fixes them all the time for a company. Oh at the end of the video your belt wasn't on the pulley anymore why was that? Otherwise it was a good video I've had to change my spindle before and this was a great refresher video for me thank you very much, and glad people like you are making them do it yourselfers!!!!
