  • In "Uncle Andy Needs A Job", Taryl and Junior are once again forced to deal with local yokel Uncle Andy and this time he's looking for employment at the shop. After the intro and before the ending, Taryl goes over the updated part for your L120, LA130 and LA140 riding mower when the belt keeps jumping off. John Deere made updated parts so check out the video so Taryl can go over what part fits which models etc. And as always, There's Your Dinner!!

    Had also Deck Belt coming off L120. Even changed Pulley guard mentioned in video. same problem. Solution was I had installed the middle spindle pulley upside down. Had previously replaced middle spindle and installed pulley unside down. There is a 1" height difference on belt run depending how pulley installed. Pulley has a off-center mount face - which side installed makes a difference. Belt skips off pulley & slackness makes belt jump off PTO drive. Making u think problem is with belt skipping off PTO drive & not with belt run along deck.

      That's what Craftsman had and loctited 'em to boot. When you went to replace them the spindle mounts broke off. Now I drill through and put nuts on the spindle mount bolts. REbuildable now instead of throw away.

    • @tomreyes4908
      @tomreyes4908 7 років тому +1

      That threw me off last week when I had to replace mine. I happen to have a tap and I just cut new threads.... Should be as good or better then cutting with the new bolts.

    • @rlund3
      @rlund3 7 років тому +1

      Well said. I had a 25 year old Craftsman mower I scrapped the deck because of spindle bolts. I could not drill out one of the spindle bolts. Nothing I did worked. Discovered cobalt drill bits 3 years later.

      Mine just wrung off but the new ones won't! Also filled in the 'vent' (mulching, and I use the term loosely) holes around the spindles with resin down to the 'coffee can' spindle protectors up to the top of the deck. No more rust hiding spots and E A S Y to blow off and clean up now.

    Great. Now they can fix the D-105 . My manual says it's adjustable at the cable but that pc isn't slotted and was factory welded! I've tried bending the bracket and that helps some. Brand new belts work about 1 mow till they stretch. The problem is when the belt is disengaged (that's when it jumps) While mowing it doesn't slip at all. I'm seriously going to try a shorter belt.

    • @vistadrummer09
      @vistadrummer09 2 роки тому

      This is exactly my problem! I bought a used La135. The owner said he had to buy a new deck for it as the original got warped bad after hitting a root. This new deck that is on it doesn't have the adjustable cable bracket on the deck. I had an old stx46 that had the bracket so I know exactly what you're talking about. It's an l bracket with with slotted holes for the two 10mm bolts to allow adjustment. From what I've been able to tell John Deere superseded any of the older adjustable style bracket decks with this new deck with the bracket welded. I too can't see any adjustment at the engagement handle (not that there would be on mine versus yours). I mean short of putting a custom cable in the sleeve or grinding the bracket off and fabricating my own adjustable bracket I'm not sure what to do.
      This mower worked fine like this till the deck belt the guy put on it snapped. It was the same style and look as the oe belts but it had to be some custom length. I've tried numerous brands of 42" John Deere deck belts and they all slip off when coming off from being engaged. I will say engaging the deck sounds rough too.
      Ever find a solution?

    I think this applies to just about any mower and that is don't engage the pto at full engine speed ,usually 1/4 - 1/3 is plenty as long as it don't stall the engine and saves on the electric clutch and disengaging the blade at just above idle gives the blades time to slow down and will almost never throw the belt unless you have pulley alignment problems.

    I have L180 It has the upgraded part on it. And that bushing is the cause of my belt coming off all the time. I fixed the problem after replacing the bushing X4.and the Idler bracket X2. I still had the problem. Then I decided to grind down the bottom of the bushing (since I had 4 new ones) until I had only 20 thousand's below the idler bushing and moly2 (bearing grease) the Idler assembly where it connects with the deck. After that, I have gone 150 hrs with 0 belts coming off. That Idler assembly bushing can still let the idler pully travel too much even new!

    On my LX 460 the belt kept coming off, and it was a pain to remove deck to put back on, so I took my grinder and cut a 4 x 6 hole in the floor board, now I can take a wooden dowel and punch the belt back behind the roller, good to go. But it only happens when I try to cut it lower then 3.

  • @harryrathien1082

    Deere actauly reccomends that you use new bolts when replacing the spindles. They stretch when installed from the factory and can snap off when attempting to reuse them, or be weak and shear off during use. Haven't seen it as much in the last few years, but a lot of them would snap when you remove the old spindle.

    Mine has started throwing the belt. My mechanic was trying to tighten up that pulley because it was wobbling too much and throwing the belt. He said just today it needed another belt keeper.
    Looks like this part will fix that problem.

    Oh ! I'm pretty sure I'm a Holden whose been treated like that by half the Holdens who are just like that - they probably just play solitaire all day & keep on treating me like I have no idea what jobs are !!!!
    Most of them that I know of are CLOSED !!!!
    They just played solitaire & just think I'm like my grandmother is now - DEAD !!!!
    I have to keep on thinking why I can just keep on getting onto THAT form of person where she is now - at Beresfield where a lot of that form of person was - most of that industry there is closed down & they can't figure out why I've been unemployed for almost 6 years.
    I can throw THAT pen outside then shut the door on them probably !!!!
    Half of my family is like that anyway - a lot of that side that's a Holden (Williams), my uncle had an old ride on lawn mower in 2011 I think, it had a twin coil (2 coils in 1) setup,it didn't go because it had no spark,my uncle thought it was just spark plugs,so he went & bought a brand new John Deere lawnmower.
    He gave the lawn mower to my grandfather but I'm not sure what he did with it,perhaps he sold it the way it was or got a new coil fitted to it then sold it,I don't know !!!!
    I went to his place a few months ago to fix an electrical fault to do with his caravan & what do you know,my uncle gave him that lawnmower 6 or so years later !!!!
    So, he bought another brand new ride on lawnmower, his old one had nothing wrong with it !!!!
    My grandfather probably sold his old ride on lawnmower, meaning with me it will get to the point that I'll find out that it's now worth my while buying new mowers every 5 - 6 years !!!!
    So now, whose saying that I don't have a clue what jobs are ????
    It seems like that they don't think that I have an idea !!!!

    You put the spring in the wrong spot on the deck. The spring goes into the small slot in the deck, not the round hole.
