  • The blade height adjustment mechanism failed. As it was already apart for repairs, I decided to deal with another design flaw on this machine which was the blade angle adjustment mechanism.

    Great video, and ingenious solution. I've got the very same Makita table saw, and yes, I've had same problem of aligning the blade to be perfectly perpendicular to the top. It's always just a little off, so I find myself compensating by planing the cut side by hand with my Stanley jackplane. Yesterday I had the thing upside down trying to find just what it was that was getting in the way of aligning this thing. I though maybe a buildup of sawdust was getting in the way. I screwed the plastic wheel-thing as far over as it could go, and then it started to jump the threads. I'll take another look tomorrow, now that I've watched your video and have a better understanding of the design.

      Thank you for your comments. After making my modification I was able to achieve about a degree beyond 90 so you should be able to do the same. One thing that I had to fix to do that was to rebuild the semicircular bands that the blade/motor assembly pivots on. One side had slipped and deformed which had limited movement.

    Of course your solutions were much more professional ... Now I've made a good excuse to take my machine apart again. Congratulations for the encouragement!

      Thank you! If I were to do it again I'd locate the crank handle higher up.

    That's brilliant. Good job mate 👍 I found one of these at the dump last night. Seems to be in excellent condition so hopefully I wont need to go to this much trouble.

      It’s not a perfect saw but it will do technical cuts if the prep is good.

    Yes Makita is a great name but this product from Makita is a shame of a table saw. So many things you have to improve. And Makita is absolutely beyond of any reproach. They still produce this faulty design. About your video: I saw that you didn't use any grease which helps a lot to adjust the hight and the angle smoother. Shortly the switch of my MLT100 stopped working. I couldn't get it here in Thailand. I tried to buy it for half a year now. Today I found it on Aliexpress. The name of this switch is: KJD12-14 and it has 6 pins. It is made in China by KEDU. The prize is about 20$.
    Can anybody explain me the 4 cables which go to the motor: 2 black, 1 grey, 1 blue? I don't know anymore how to connect it to the switch together with the overload protector. Thanks for any help!

      I did use a lubricant but opted to use graphite as grease tends to build into a useless wood dust paste. I also had troubles with the switch and failed trying to fix it myself. I had to take it to a repair shop, I hope you’re able to get it working without that step.

    Thank you! I got some ideas from your video for the same table saw. I believe you can also check the straightnes of the table surface itself. Mine surely is not straight. Also the sliding table have a huge play and many other flaws i've found.

      No worries Eugen. It was a fun modification to make.

    Great vid! I think the sprig is pushing the motor holder away from inside so u can move it left or right to adjust the angle, otherwise it would get stuck. I hope u understand what i am talking about. I had makita, restored it and sold it. Now i am building one by myslf. Greetings, Boris

      For me, I think the spring helped by changing the friction points as well as overcoming some of the friction on the rod that the plate slides on as

    I find it very difficult to raise and lower the blade on my saw. What can I do to fix the problem. Thanks

    • @madebyjnd
      @madebyjnd  5 років тому +1

      Hello Bobby. If you are still able to raise and lower the blade I advise that you purchase a suitable spring and some graphite powder. Turn your saw upside down and lubricate the screw that does the raising and lowering. There is only one screw which works on one side of the casting that carries the motor and blade so there is an inherent binding caused when the two glide bars are sliding through the casting. You should attach the spring to the side opposite the screw to ease this binding and help raise the blade.

    Nice vdo...i got makita mlt100 saw as well....do u know how to do blade alignment

    • @madebyjnd
      @madebyjnd  6 років тому

      vikram khaira I don’t see how it would be done. At best, you’ll only be able to align the fence to the blade which it done at the bolts that hold the fence to the clamp on the end. I recommend modifying the fence by making it dual sided.

      2dear u know i figured it out ...turned out its pretty easy but takes a while to really tune in the blade...there r two bolts on back side of blade housing ...i guess its called trunion.....had upgraded the fence to dual sided the day i bought it ...thanx anyway...its always good to talk a fellow maker

      Like what exactly? keep in mind that 90% of the "made in the good old USA" stuff is actually made in China ;) :P I don't know , i had it for the last 5 years , and yes , it has is problems (like every saw of this kind i've seen so far ) but after some love i didn't have any major problem .... so far at least. I supposed it's only a matter of time before time wear related issues begin to bother me ;)

    must be the biggest piece of crap I ever bought. No matter how many times I adjust the blade to the miter slots, one or two cuts and it moves

    • @madebyjnd
      @madebyjnd  6 років тому

      G.V. Mouth I had the same problem but neglected to mention it in the video. The pivots on both sides of the carriage for the motor and blade incorporate narrow bands of metal that had bound up and deformed. I reshaped the ends of both bands so that they locked in place better and this simple thing seems to have fixed that issue.

    Hello, I solved this problem definitively after having replaced this part of the lifting system for the second time, I put a hard bronze bushing and I believe it will last a long time. See the video: ua-cam.com/video/zRqcgkZkxIw/v-deo.html

      I think mine is about to go again but rather than continue to struggle with this saw I'm going to invest in a better one.

      @@madebyjnd You're right, a better quality saw will be better, and this used MLT100 pays half a better one. In Brazil we do not have so many options, however Makita and DeWalt have better bench models than the MLT100.
      Now I must have some problem, my wife says I like these things that give them trouble spending time on them ... you will understand ... I think she's right .... kkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk
