    Cheers - was able to sort mine out thanks to this! Works like magic. Couple of tips: Sign-writing shops have heaps of offcut aluminium composite panels; I offered them money but they said it was no good to them! I used a router to reduce the thickness at the end to fit that weird bit - worked like a charm. Gonna make a secondary plate that can do 45 degrees.

      Money is no good to them??? Do sign writers work for free now??? Bullshit aside, glad it worked out for you. I was cutting some ACP up today and put an offcut aside to make a 45° plate... but then found another use for it, oh well.

    Just bought a Mikita saw with knowing I had to make some improvements and I really liked the look and your version for replacing the plastic cut out will be having a go myself and looking forward to seeing your version of doing a better fence guide thx mate 👍🏻

    Hi, I have just added the zero clearance insert plate to my saw. I have added the extra cut out for the riving knife.
    I did the cut out for just the saw blade as you did, and then unscrews the plate and spun it end to end, turning it upside maintaining the left edge to the left etc.
    I then screwed it back temporarily onto the saw (only the 2 front and 2 back screw will now line up) upside down with the countersinks down, and then wound the blade back up to give the enlarged cut out which come forward, so is actually reversed so how we want it.
    Then take the screws out and spin the plate back around to the correct orientation. The enlarged cut out is now to the back side of the plate for the position of the riving knife.
    You can now reattach the riving knife without the guard on. Then screw the zero clearance insert into place, sliding the enlarged grove over the knife, screw down, and attach guard.

      Richard Baker Brilliant, I was just thinking the same thing, but wasn’t sure if would be long enough for the riving knife.

    I recently purchased the same saw in Australia. I'd really like to see what you done with the fence. No matter how much I calibrate it, it still moves.
    Would love to see a video on it :)

    I’d never heard of that composite aluminum board before. Would this be stiffer than just a 4mm thick piece of aluminum. Also is it easier to cut?

    • @ToolsAndStuffOFFICIAL
      @ToolsAndStuffOFFICIAL  6 років тому

      A 4mm piece of ali is probably stiffer, but the composite panel is very easy to cut and bend with a regular circ saw and blade.

    I replaced my insert with an mdf zero clearance after I had two incidents cause by thin bits of wood jamming. The first demolished the guard. I replaced the Phillips screws with simple slotted screws that don’t get clogged with dust. The mitre fence has a lot of play but seems to cut square despite this. Why can’t the slot be machined for less clearance?

    • @peterfreiherr5719
      @peterfreiherr5719 Рік тому

      Hi all... the problem with the mitre fence is that the slider is too narrow for the track... in the end, I just got my centre punch & punched 2 dents next to the edge of the slider, one at each end: the centre punch 'spreads' the steel & makes it a little wider at that point. Crude, but it works. Also, you can do it again if you need to 'punch' the divot wider....
      All best Peter

    With so many videos in youtube on how to improve the makita mlt100 fence, why is makita not improving this model, instead of making modifications, I will just add a little bucks to get the Bosch. No headache.

    Gidday, our local 'Mitre5 ' has a makita like yours on special, end of line price for $699, not that much of a special but special to them i guess, anyway just wanted to know how you have got on with your saw and are you still happy with its performance? Cheers Mike

      G'day Mike, Where to start with this saw... I am happy with the power of the motor and the depth of cut. Everything else about this saw is well below Makita standards, in fact below Ryobi standards. I would not buy one again.

    Why does Makita not offer an upgrade kit for upgrade on this bad design of the fence and insert plate. Surely this is a design factory fault.
