My friend who is autistic and has two other diagnoses that makes him priority need is legally homeless and the council keeps gatekeeping him and ignoring his emails. Even the Head of the housing strategy had the nerve once to write in one email that my friend's 7 medical evidences are not ignored but they can't decide whether he made himself intentionally homeless. They have kept him in a loop for four years and every time my friend has made a complaint they start with a new housing plan, trying to force him into accepting shared accommodation which he can't do, his doctor and therapist have tried several times to contact them but the housing officer and Head of housing strategy keeps ignoring them.
What if I’m currently in supported housing but it’s aggravating my mental health condition and I’ve been physically attacked at my supported housing accommodation. Can I approach the council for alternative accommodation?
My homeless daughter evicted from travel lodge for vaping in room, was accepted for main housing duty with priority need but now Council has said they have ended main housing duty as she made herself intentionally homeless. Any advice?
I'll discuss this question anonymously in more detail on the livestream this thursday (7.30pm 13th June 2024), but given it could be time-sensitive, as weird as it sounds, she can re-approach the same council and make a fresh application and they will need to make a proper decision on whether she was intentionally homeless. If she was in priority need last time, presumably she probably still is, so the duty to provide interim accommodation will kick back in again. I have helped people in this situation where the individual was not actually intentionally homeless despite being evicted from temporary accommodation for their actions.
Thank you for your video! I have a question, what if a person( with young kids) is living in a private rented accommodation with damp and mould issues ( classed category 2 hazard PHS report)and being physically affected by it and also can’t afford to pay the rent because of the benefit cap. In result, that person has fallen into the rent arrears and plus late rent payment fees. Is it reasonable for that person to stay in the property? If that person hands in the notice to the landlord and leaves will that be classed as being intentionally homeless? Thank you
That person needed to inform the council in writing that they can no longer afford their home and what that does is, it keeps you from being intentionally homeless in many situations because you warned them before eviction that you couldn’t afford the place anymore.
What if you can't get interim accommodation at all. Where can you go to get off the street, do councils send you to other hostels/shelters Or assist you getting a private place even if it is out of the area? Also, can the intentionally homeless be broken by living with family and can it be classed as settled? Can't remember the case but there was a couple that lived in B and B for a year or so
The case is fahia v harrow. In your case it would depend on the nature of the situation with your family - if it was always precarious then it may be more difficult. I w8ill try to do a video on this question asap
So often times there are very strict guidelines that prevent a large number of people from getting assistance and because the council properties are far and few between, anyone they do help almost always ends up in a B&B and you can stay there for an extremely long period of time
What help can someone get if the council have deemed the intentionally homeless and an appeal hasnt worked. How can they get off the streets? No shelters/hostels in the borough for them
If the family has children, they should be referred to Children Services who really need to house them. In theory the reasonable steps agreed tin the personalised housing plan should have been capable of resulting in the council helping someone to find accommodation, but it's not an absolute. Other legal options exist like approaching a different council - if they're in priority need then the other council will need to provide TA in the very short term which could given them a bit of breathing space.
@@homelessnessbestpractice One of the family has a back problem as well as mild hemiplegia but they have been deemed non priority and intentionally homeless. If they apply to another council will they not just be reverted back to the area they came from? They also work but have been unable to rent due to bad credit and no guarantor. Still have debt to pay for mortgage whilst giving up an unhabitable home. (Caused by not being able to do repairs to property cos of neighbour not allowing access to their land and taking neighbour to court would of cost them undetermined amount of money)

All they’re going to do is put you up in a B&B if you have kids and they decide to help you. Anyone who wants to see actual examples of what he’s talking about watch “How to get a council house” series here and you’ll see just how many people are told they’re intentionally homeless
You explain so well. Brilliant thanks so much !
thanks for the feedback Helen, much appreciated.

What if you dont leave your temporary accommodation after the date given where you need to leave?
If they’ve told you that they’re no longer going to house you and you don’t leave, the bailiffs will put you out
What if landlord is harassing a tennant and using threatening language? Tennant not feeling safe and has children?
Hi Gracecole3720, I looked at this question on the livestream video from the 17th August - check it out to see my answer
Thank you

Intentional homelessness is just a way of blaming the victim.
absolutely. A lot of people think it 'teaches them a lesson' but even on that level it fails.
