A vocoder/formant filter chops the frequency spectrum of the instrument and your voice into small slices. The amplitude of frequencies in these slices is used to change the amplitudes of the corresponding slices in the instrument signal. I hope this helps understanding this thing!? ;)

Hey, my keyboard died mid response. Anyways, I only know of the EMS 2000 by the legendary reputation that precedes it. I would say the Microkorg has a capable vocoder that I found easy to use when I had it. I strongly recommend you use it with an external microphone (ideally you can run the external mic through a preamp and then bring it into the microkorg external input at line level). The internet tells me that the EMS is a 16 band vocoder, I know the microkorg is an 8 band vocoder which means it will have a different sound quality but I found it to be easy to program and giving great results.

you just route the input from the mic to two different sources? Or the vocoder he's using has the capability to pass-through the signal it's processing. The Microkorg seems to have an audio in thing too, so who knows, maybe you can layer it? Though it seems not, given the layer assign is unavailable in the vocoder...

You managed to make a very cool synthesizer seem dull and boring

how did you change between wave forms?

Set big knob to OSC 1 or OSC 2 and first small knob from the left changes waveforms; consider that you can set OSC 1 to digital and choose from various digital samples using 3rd knob

Also remember that you set the level of both oscillators on MIXER (knob 1 and 2)
