    Now that’s a new approach I haven’t seen 👍

There’s quite a few designs I’ve seen that incorporate the finger slat design, but they’re always pretty clunky and don’t fold away very small. I think my design solves that 😁

Cool! I decided on the same design as you, for mostly the same reasons. It's weird I haven't seen it around more often.
In the end I ran into issues with transporting bikes though; the width of the vehicle meant I needed to take apart the bike to transport it, which wouldn't do for me.
Instead I bought a bunch of euronorm boxes, which fit perfectly in several different configurations, depending on what I want to do with the van that day or weekend. It's a bit of a compromise, but a modular build is great to figure out what I actually need. Trying to practice KISS is always a challenge.
I'm super happy to see 'my' original idea come into being with your build!

Great minds think alike! Perhaps we should coin it ‘the Ricktypical Sliding Bed’ 😂
What are euronorm boxes? I’ve never heard of them

@@AtypicalWorkshop euronorm boxes are a type of box designed around standard pallet size. They usually come in the sizes 60x40, 40x30, 30x20.
Every box can fit two boxes of a smaller size on it.
Since most vans are built around pallets, this results in a near-perfect fit, with multiple configurations possible.
A setup like yours, for example can be achived by placing three 60x40 boxes in the back, and two in the front. When it's time for bed you could rotate them to have a 180x80 platform.
It's a bit of a faff, but great for finding out what works for you.
Besides: I can build a small cabinet by stacking boxes. I can take out a box and use it as a portable seat, or fill up with groceries.
If I'm going on a bike trip I can have a bench on the left- and right side of the car, leaving the middle open to transport my bike. If I'm bringing my girlfriend for a longer trip it's easy to just have the whole bottom be made of crates, creating a huge storage space. And so on.
