Faye, you are the cutest! I am so excited for your setup and all the fun adventures you'll have!! I loved watching you and Cy work together. Your enthusiasm and joy is so contagious! The silly faces you make are my favorite by far. Thank you both for your work and for sharing it with us!!!!

Thanks for that. My wife and I are planning to rebuild in a similar way. Since now you have experience with that setup. What are the pros and cons about this?
@ I’ve used it off and on since the build. The main thing is needing to be fairly level otherwise it can be a little difficult to put back in the couch formation. I will also be adjusting my storage box at some point as it’s a great bed stabilizer and extra seat when chilling, but because the wood swells, depending on the weather, it gets too tight for the bed to slide over, (I have to manhandle the bed to force it) so I need to sand down the lid. I love being able to pull it out when I need a bed wherever I am. I’m also happy to have in couch formation so I can work on the road and have the ability to stretch out my legs. It’s also good because it’s my everyday vehicle so the extra floor space is great when I need to move stuff for my job etc.
Fantastic video. I have watched dozens of bed builds and yours is one of the best. Thanks! I was going to do a sideways pull out bed but dreaded losing the use of one of my sliding doors. Now I don’t have to. My 2013 ford transit connect xlt is also my regular car.
Excellent job, I have built a couple SUV myself, always like the idea of folding bed as you still have room to sit. I end up overthinking and overdesigning stuff that in the end doesn't work the way I envisioned it. So I give you a big thumbs up on a build that actually works.
Thanks! It was nice to have another video to reference to for the build, that helped immensely! And I am happy that the modifications we made worked! Koodos to you for building SUVs, its challenging!
You two are awesome. I was looking for ideas for a tri-fold bed for a teardrop camper where the bed needs to be oriented the long way. I think something inspired by this will do the trick!
@@CysCorner I'm building one myself at the moment. I have a similar mattress that fold the same way and I'm finding 3 equal length bed folds doesn't work to well, especially for the end mattress over the sliders This is because of the extra thickness of the mattress when in seat mode. Looking at your construction It looks like you might have added extra length for this same reason later on.
@@ManBikeSwag For Faye the thickness was okay since she is short! It is her van so it all worked well for her. If it was mine I would have had to modify it since I am 6 ft tall and my head would be hitting the roof. 😂 Sounds like you were able to modify successfully?!
Do I detect a Minnesota (or Dakota's) accent? Love it! (I grew up in Minnesota). Thanks for the great video. We are considering doing something like this. Very helpful.
Wow! Every once in a while someone will ask me this. I was born in Minnesota but only lived there until I was 6. My Dad lived there a long time so I must have picked up his accent slightly. Thats sooo funny! Good ear! And have fun making your project!!! Oh and amen! Jesus is Lord indeed!!!
I built one a year ago and I never thought about cutting out little section so it will weigh less.... I was thinking about changing my bed build and now I'm considering just editing the design a bit
Thank you :) I am passing along what I found on youtube, it sure helped Faye and I, I am happy that this video will help you with your conversion! Have fun!
Hi love your video what length of sliders did you ladies use? I want to something similar been watching both DualEx and your but can’t tell the size they are. I am assuming it’s the size of box built?
I guess you missed the part where they said they were copying a design from another UA-camr so they don’t deserve credit for the design but they do deserve credit for doing the right thing and giving credit where it is due “not so humble road” would never do that.
@GOLDVIOLINbowofdeath I never said they came up with the design. I commended them on the work they did and that I liked the design of the bed and how it works.
I have the same van and would like to know more about that ladder? Would be great if I had something small to store that could get me up to my rooftop cargo box .
Great bed concept, but personally I would have definitely lowered the bed 2-3 inches. If any ceiling build-out gets done it might get uncomfortable sitting up. Neat and versatile nonetheless
Hello, there is no measurement guide, we made it the size we wanted it and kind of winged it. As for the base being equal to the folding part, if I understand what you're asking I would think it wouldn't really be that critical. As long as the sliders have enough wood mount to. Good luck.
I would have designed this so it’s not necessary to attach the glides to the bed. One way to do that would’ve been to attach the glides to some aluminum angle and have the bed rest on the angle which is attached to the glides. I believe that would have the major advantage of allowing you to easily extend your bed without having to have the door open in the pouring rain, or straining your back trying to do it without the door open. If you do it without attaching the glides to the bed you can extend or retract each glide individually which could be done from within the van much more easily than trying to unlock both glides with the bed in the way. You could also ditch the glides and use something else that can be slid out at each end individually when needed to support the bed
That’s surprising that the trifold mattress that she already owned worked out so well for this project in this van that she already owned. For real? What was the mattress originally designed to use on?

I am assuming those 500 pound slides were pretty expensive and I know they’re very heavy and this is obviously a budget project so why didn’t you do this without using those? Anybody who’s been to a lot of antique or vintage furniture auctions has seen 1 million ways that dropleaf and other forms of extension tables accomplished the same thing at least 150 years before these heavy duty slides were invented.
Your goal was to make a bed that could fold up and become a seat but I think the goal was also to free up some floor space in the van when you’re not using the bed, no?
I would never use angle brackets or L brackets for anything but especially would never use what you call L brackets. They are very prone to bending and are underkill if you’re using 500 pound glides. A chain is only as strong as its weakest link and those 500 pound slides are not cheap and they’re not light so why use them and then cheap out using L brackets?
What a clever idea to make a new groove in a shorn screw. You go girl!
Thanks!
Awesome! You ladies did a great job.
