- Super Stock Round 2 run from Atco Dragway. My opponent did not show (yay me!) and I decided to turn the camera on for my bye run. I went 4 rounds until I had to race my friend in the quarter final. Lost a close one and had some clutch trouble that we are diagnosing but all in all we had a pretty good weekend with friends and family in attendance.

Music to my ears! RIP Atco😢
Nuts, I was expecting massive squeeze
Frigging :Love it!
I had a 289 fairlane years ago. Since then I have nothing but love for that engine. Your's sounds fantastic. Great job.
Thank you!
That's got to be the most fun you can have with your clothes on.
What a ripper!!!
Thanks for sharing.
Bobby I dream of my 66 leavin like your ‘s ! Good music bud 👍
My first car was a 289 hypo T10 4 speed Detroit Locker rear end and you just brought back great memories but oh my God the sound of that engine is just something that gets my blue oval blood flowing 😜
Me too such a great sound ugh it’s destroyed and needs a full rebuild.
Man that’s a good sounding Mustang!!! Nice car Paison👍👍👍
Bad ass!! Sounds killer at high rpms
Thank you
Thanks for the ride
Awesome!!
That was awesome
Bobby.. your my favorite driver..love your mustang.go Ford🏁🏁
Thank you Shane! I appreciate that.
Pretty amazing. When Bobby said that he is using a Ford 289 block does that mean it’s a stock block with a two bolt mains? Were any strengthening modifications done to the block like a stud girdle and Support stress bar on the oil gallery to reduce stress to prevent stress cracks?
I honestly didn’t think that a 289 stock crank could go to 9000 RPM at 500 hp.
Good Run Bobby
Nice
DAMN!!!
Wow!
always told 289 was best ford small block per cubic inch long time
Enjoyed watching you go rounds, I'm the announcer, Mad Max.
Hey max! Great job on the mic.
Hi Max, Racer X!

Bad ass. Love a high reving 4spd car
Thank you.
Cool! just think it that was 500 cubic inch pro stock or ihra pro stock 800 mountain engine
Crisp little ci I love this
Nice pass Bobby
Thank you
Spinning is winning. RPMs that is. Awsome vid
Thank you Donald! Please subscribe if you could.
@@driverinterviews just did. I'm 54 and grew up at draway 42 and Thompson drag raceway. My dad has a 64 gto with a high winding ram air v. Show queen now...until he let's me have it.lol
I hope he lets you haha
@@driverinterviews I told him I'm putting in a libery and letting it rip. Car used to run high tens in the 70s and 80s with a old pro stock t10 from Ron hutter. Ron hutter did the motor around 6 years ago and pulled 690hp from it . Stock heads intake and carb.
Nice pass.
Thanks buddy.
Enjoyed watching your video. Is the a Long shifter or a Verti-Gate?
It is a long shifter utilizing a vertical gate.
Nice driving, sounds great, what rear gear?
6.20
Love me some bolt action cars 😎🥃
Thanks Sean!
Not 🚫 really much to add to what Sean had to say
@@driverinterviews this is Jeff yoder the ol'broke down scooter tramp (ex-biker and I'll just add a thank you for the info on the switch arrangement in your car, cause I know everyone has their own switch set up the their own particular car
Have you ever dealt with valve train harmonics at those RPMs for burnouts? Rehr and Morrison once said they destroyed a valve train doing burnouts one after another testing tires. Certain high rpm situations…engines do not like. Not really sure the reason. Just that it exists.
I have read that but I have done my burnouts up against a 6800 chip for about 10 years now and fortunately have not seen any damage due to harmonics. I do not do long burnouts and feather the throttle on the way out. In my automatic cars I stay off the chip altogether.
Yea little 289! Best wishes for next season. What kind of times/speed do you run? What is the race weight is the car? You pulled the lights perfectly, what's your best R/T? Second best motor that Ford made behind the '63-'67 R-Code FE427. I owned a '66 289 Fairlane & loved the Car & Motor. Thanks for the video.
I run 10.40s at 124mph and weigh 2900lb with me in the car. My reaction time here was .007.
@@driverinterviews .007!! Wow that's impressive. The time & trap is great too. So if you were to lighten the little 'Stang by a certain amount, would that move you to SS/K, is that how it would work?
@@carmiethompson2676 SS/K for me would be 210lb less so 2675 but I can not get that low. The lightest I have ever gotten the car is 2880.
@@driverinterviews I see. I'm going to leave it there even though I have a few more questions. Thanks for your replies & have a successful '23 season.
@@carmiethompson2676 feel free to ask. Thanks for watching. Building a new motor this year as this motor here broke severely a few months later after 3 years of service.
What are the cam specs on that beast? Sounds like massive duration, lift, and narrow LSA.
If you subscribe to my channel maybe I will tell you! Jk well the lift and duration is pretty stout in super stock.
Excellent. You don't have to tell all. But what makes it tick ? Thanks
Stock block, crank, ported stock heads but oem runner and chamber volumes, oem sized valves but stout springs and valvetrain, stock carb with edelbrock victor jr intake. 6.20 rear gear.
@@driverinterviews 289 is an amazing engine. Things are done to it that defy logic.
If I remember right, you used the Mexican block.
Personally if I were to build an engine like that I'd use a 302 block and 289 crank and heads.
I've never seen a 289 Mexican but I have seen the 302 in Mexican.
Awesome! what was that an 8K launch?
Yes 7600 on that one.
I don't know for sure since I'm not 🚫 the driver but I would guess that they were connected to the fuel system and electrical system on the engine
Yes fuel, water, fan, and o2 sensors. After the burnout I hit a “launch” toggle that switches my rev limiter to starting line rpm.
I'm curious what switches you are turning on and off.
Water, fan, launch, and wideband o2 sensors. The launch activates my two-step rev limiter button which is on my clutch pedal.
Microwave, hair dryer and washing machine switch.
@@driverinterviews Nice video... are you running a TBI system?? I'm reminessing my old Holey days and jets and power valves and reading plugs while in line
@@rbhaskin No! This is the factory Autolite 4100 carburetor mandatory in Super Stock!
What do you do for an oiling system? Is it still front sump? Thanks
Front and Rear sump and deep pan. My steering linkage goes through.
@@driverinterviews Thanks. I have a 1966 mustang with an 8k rpm 363 and just a front sump... and know it's not ideal. Who did your pan? Thanks!
@@n2omike I'm curious about the pan myself. Maybe he's using a modified late model pan from a roller engine.
What does it run in the 1/4 mile?
10.43 that weekend at 123mph
Love our 289's but sounds like 7500? Where does the 9k ? Kurt Vogt Shelby Club CT has one revs 8500 check him out. Respectfully My Lunati Mech Roller makes phenomenal power for spec legal small port small valve 289. Ray Knight 1st guy to run 10's in Falcon, same cam, heads!
In this video I hit the 2-3 and 3-4 shift about 8500 and then I shut this one off at the 1000’ so I didn’t reach the RPM I would at the finish line. It was an automatic win so I wanted to preserve parts we’ll just say.
@@driverinterviews OK Thx, See you next NED visit!
Are you running a Hi-Po bottom end?
Stock crank and 2 bolt main Mexican block. You are allowed to go .080” overbore and we are 4.060” forged cp pistons.
COOL! Keep the Ford flag flying! 1-3 Firing order?
Yes
Calverts?
Not on this car. Santhuff shocks on front and qa1 coil over in rear. Ladder bar setup.
it's shocking how you get out 9000 rpm on a bone stock 289 ! please share some secret to mustang brother !
Lots of gearing and lots of cam lift! Port work in the heads is legal in super stock as long as the runners still meet the max 155cc intake and 49cc exhaust.
@@driverinterviews Can you dig out any video of Kip Martin's SS/L? After his passing, his channel was turned off. I saved one or both of them, but I have to load an old computer drive to find them.
@@413x398 I wish I had some. I think I have something from the stands when I was hanging with him in Arizona 2013.
@@driverinterviews Yeah, I live in Phx. Was going to have him do some engine work for me but things did not go well for him. ☹
