That's the best in car drag race video I've seen on youtube! Thanks for the video. I can't believe how short your first gear was. You must be running 4.11's or similar.
Thanks man, im going to have new ones soon. I put an auto with trans brake and a 408 stroker in it, just actually shook her down this weekend @ Lebanon Valley NY and turned 10:58 @ 127mph....what a difference
This has always been one of my favorite videos as it served as inspiration for my 67 Mustang Fastback street/strip build. My car has a similar power level, tremec TKX trans, and should run similar times to this car when I’m done with it. It just doesn’t launch quite right. Wondering if you could help me out a little bit with this issue? Thank you!
@ I’m in South Dakota. I’d have to double check on the control arms but I’m pretty sure they’re just a stock style replacement piece. I just ordered and got some Viking crusader coilovers. The guy at Viking sure seemed pretty confident that they would help my car transfer some serious weight
@RyanBrunner390 i would 100% use caltracs. There is no better for what we are driving. Also make sure you have the rear perch upgraded or you will break the rear from it. I have quite a few videos of this car pulling 1.40 60ft running low 10s on here. Its an automatic now but it's also a second faster. I have a svo 408 stroker in it now with. Dynamic c4 and 5200 stall
@@revinkevn I am assuming you’re talking about the leaf spring perches? I did blow up a ford 9 inch third member once already so I want to make sure I can prevent further damage lol. Definitely looking to get my 60’ times down. I am going to get some Mickey stiff wall slicks (what MT recommended when I called) and hope that those can help me hook up. Also hoping these new Viking coilovers will help transfer more weight 👍
@RyanBrunner390 I've used stiff wall when it was a stick car. They'll help but the caltracs mono leaf system is a game changer. You'll get the weight transfer you're looking for with it.
I raced all stick cars for 18 years, I got lots more respect winning competitions with a stick, but you win less because they are less consistent and no matter how fast you shift, you r losing E.T. I absolutely love stick over auto. The TKO 600 is a beast and shifts like a hot knife in butter, but if u r in competition and want to win more often....get the TH400. You will have more controlled launches and more accurate dial ins
This is exactly the reason I put a th400 in mine. I would love to put a manual in my LS swapped 69 Corvette. It would be a dream. But, when I run an index class, those guys are dead on. And I need every advantage I can get. Grateful for the video. And thanks for the honesty. Not many people are. Good luck.
b conover I agree with your comment about the shift light. Either adjust the shift point module for your desired RPM shift point or just don't use the light at all.
+gmiller25941 funny that youre telling a guy what to do with his own car. how about he uses what he wants because its his choice, decision and car. if you dont like it, that is not his problem. i doubt he woukd let you drive it anyway so why does it matter if the light comes on? are you going to be staring at it? no.
@@revinkevn sounds badass! im planning out an ls swapped ranger do you think the longer gears of a 4L80 would be better in a light truck over a 5 speed?
@chrishansen7004 I always like the 410s with the 4 speed, especially if you're street driving. I have a 69 Fastback with 502 CI cobra jet, an AOD Electric 4 speed and 430s and it actually does ok on the highway. That should run 9.90 or so. My 68 with 411 and c4 3 speed doesn't like highway(rpm) The 410 with a 4 speed auto leaves alot in the low end to have excellent acceleration and decent drivability at 65-70 mph. This video the car had a 351w and a 5 speed tko500. Ran 11.00 at 118 or so. Now it has a svo 4 bolt , 408 with small heads and 5500 dynamic converter. There are a few recent videos where I'm running 10.50s off the foot brake. Where are you located anyway?
Hell my regular T5 wont even take 6500 rpm's. I just want a smoother and stronger trans. And been thinking about the TKO 600. But i might just throw a grand or 2 more down and Buy the T56 Magnum Conversion kit.
Wait a sec, how are you jamming your 2-3? I damn near have to time it just perfect or my tko gives 3rd gear the boot. Someone help.. I've hear 2-3 shifts on the 500 is pretty much not easy anyhow. My transmission isn't broken i know this lol.
revinkevn Unreal, my TKO 600 has been in and out 3 times now. Won’t shift what so ever above 5900rpm. Just goes to show how inconsistent the Tremec manufacturing facility in Mexico really is. Mine is getting a few upgrades this time. But these things are expensive to fix up. Sliders aren’t sold separately and that’s total bullshit because they want almost $300 for the 1-2 synchronizer assembly. They come apart easy enough s that’s nice I guess
Hey if you could. Did you go through the lights on the big end in 4th or 5th gear? Were you foot braking at the tree or were you using a 2 step or a line lock?
@Bazooka Joe bring the car to my track and I'll show you! Seriously, tho, I just know the release point of the clutch and you have roughly 6 inches of rollout before you turn off the top bulb. As long as you have a good clutch, you inch in it and stop the car with the brake. Bring the rpm up with the clutch just engaged. I have that tranny in my 93 gt as well. I have a couple of videos on board from that on my channel as well. Although it's a much less violent launch, it's the same principle. Please subscribe, ill have some new videos this summer. I have an 82 stick car I'm currently building that should be in the mid 10s. An 84 GT 408w that runs 10.80s thru mufflers and still have the 68 408w and auto 10.50s. They all will see a few passes this season although I'm concentrated on my son's Jr. Dragster campaign.
Are you powershifting the whole way or is that 1st to 2nd a quickshift? Also, is the tko faceplated or stock? I'm building my 68 cougar for drag and I absolutely love the way this thing ran. I've got a tko 600 (upgraded internals from libertys gears to help with that 2-3 shift, but not faceplated) and I'm wondering what's the best way to run it on the strip
03 sv1k Hey whats up? If you watch the tachometer actually shifted close to 6800 on that one two shift. That is a TKO 500 bone stock out of the box no modifications. Thanks for checking it out.
Hey I used to race bikes out at island around 2001. I miss that track. It’s a shame it shut down people wonder why there’s kids and people in general racing on the street. Now they shut down englishtown. I’m building an 85 mustang 347 with the tremec magnum 6 speed. I spent the extra money because of rumors of tko not shifting past 63-6500. Yours shifted perfect. Good driving.
