      I watched aquarium adventures, video and live stream about it
      It seams his main concern was the sharpness, I’d like to see some Corydoras reactions and some long fin species as they negotiation around it. Angelfish keepers videos are one to watch also👍

      @@aquariumdelirium from what I've found so far as it is exposed to water for a prolonged period of time there will be a slight bio film on the surface of the rock that makes it feel less gritty but still retains all of its key features. I don't know if you have any type of bio home but I know when I grab a piece of it out of my sump it doesn't feel sharp or jagged at all and it's all made out of the same material.

    hello, the biorock is really an interesting product, the possibility of putting the biological filtration mass so discreetly in the aquarium allows a monstrous saving of space to confine the filter to a mechanical action.
    I have a lot of questions, in particular about the color in the previous videos, there are, it seems to me, 4 colors available, including one for a marine aquarium, would it be possible to expose them next to rock samples used in aquascaping to see the possibility of a integration with natural rocks like lava rock, seiryu and ohko stone.
    How much weight can it support if covered with natural stone?
    Does the silicone adhere well to it? To do this an aquarium background or to cover an internal filter.
    is it harmless to loricariidae and other fish like kuhlii that like to sneak into cavities?
    Thank you very much for these videos

      Hi! So from what I've found so far the rock can be integrated in just about any tank. You can put other rocks around it just fine. The bio rock is more fragile than a solid stone but it is still plenty strong to have other rocks stacked on it, especially when in water. As far as being safe for fish, I don't see this being a huge problem. Especially once a light natural biofilm develops on the outside it's not too rough. I pulled a piece of biohome out of my sump that's a year old and it is not rough to touch and it's the same material. Hope this helps!

    WOW, Richard sudden change in your voice. This time I understood every word you said. 🤣So it's kind of like the lave rock. Only it's man-made but good stuff. If it's cheaper than the natural lave rock then I see the future for this product. If it's more then I stick with the old-fashioned mother nature stuff yes, the lava rock. But I'm looking forward to the continuation of this product. If it outperforms the lava rock and if it's cheaper. You see lava rock contains lots of iron that is very beneficial to plants. So will see but I think the price would be the big deterrent. Say hi to Richard!

    • @pondguru
      @pondguru  Рік тому +1

      Anything which is manufactured from different materials is obviously going to cost way more than a natural abundant rock.

    • @FathomAquatics
      @FathomAquatics Рік тому

      As Richard said the price will be higher, but in my opinion biorock and lava rock are barely comparable. Lava rock has maybe a similar exterior surface area but internally is totally different and that's the main reason so many people choose biohome media. Lava rock looks like it's very porous but the crevices and pits do not fully connect so water will not fill the internal structure leaveing valuable space for bacteria to cultivate. That is why you would choose biohome media types over traditional medias. 1 cubic inch of biohome should be able to sustain a substancial amount more bacteria than the same amount of lava rock. Sure you can just buy a huge bag of lava rock without breaking the bank but unless you have a big sump, good luck getting that whole bag of lava rock in your filter to get the same amount of usable surface area that you get from biohome.

      @@FathomAquatics (my other channel) Yes different forms of rock and media have very different properties and capabilities - I covered different types of lava rock and Biohome on the 'Looking Inside Filter Media' video where I used a microscope to look inside media and rocks.
      The lava rock looks great from the outside but the inside is mostly sealed and it is minimally porous but nobody bothers to crack rocks open to look inside, lol

      @@FathomAquatics Well we can go back and forth on the topic. I like to see after a few weeks how you clean out the inside of the rock. So let's say 2 times I had to do with Lava rock the same. So be it. I look at my pocket. Just cause something cost 10 times more it doesn't mean it's 10 times better. Also in business if you want to replace things that are working you have to compete with price. Why do you think most manufacturers pull out of England? English are not good business people when comes to manufacturing things. These are the major cause of England's collapse and the industry cause they outsource everything after all the pound is too high. Just look at how many things are made in England? So let's say 3 times more work 3 times more I have to do more with natural lava rock that is stronger and does not crumble apart like the bio-broken glass silica sand. Oh after a couple of weeks good luck cleaning out the inside. Look I mean manufacturers made that aquarium list that had a thunderstorm effect. With all kinds of colours from work, you can cause thunderstorms at home. The guy went home and wondered why his baby discus fell off of their parents. The manufacturers made huge money and now they are out of business. So as a Hobbyist and a business guy. I can lecture you on both. But you're not one of those who would listen. So prove me wrong: Put it in a plated tank and show it to me after 6 months how good it is and how you clean the inside. If you prove to me it's better than the lava rock I shout up tock tail and buy 5 kilos of that bio rock. Till then I stick with what I know works in the last 49 years since I'm a hobbyist. BTW Java fern loves lava rocks cause they release some Iron and have no black spots on the leaves.
      PS: no more disco/strobe lights and see how long this very expensive new untested bio rock will take place in our hobby. Good luck.

      @@Gabor.P. yeah so biorock is made out of the same material as biohome media, which has been available for over a decade. It's just made into a rocky shape instead of little pellet shapes for a filter. I have had biohome in my filters for years and I've never once had to clean out the media, let alone the inside. The pores on the media are not big enough to allow dirt and debris in so there's no garbage on the inside. As far as looking at long term tests, that already exists for biohome. One of the creators that made a biorock video also made a biohome long-term test video a few years ago and there's much more on UA-cam showing the denitrification. The info is out there.

    1:31 No, a sphere has the lowest surface area to volume ratio of any shape. Literally the opposite of what you said.

    • @pondguru
      @pondguru  3 місяці тому

      (This comment is wrong - see his next comment below and thanks to MrAwawe for pointing me in the right direction)
      That is right and wrong. As long as the sphere is suitably porous it will have a ridiculous available surface area compare to the outward surface area a square, star or any other shape. If you assume that the outside surface area is not porous than you're 100% correct and a shape with crazy points will be more available for bacteria.
      However, I'm working on a structure being porous and suitable for bacterial colonization so there is a massive difference.

    • @MrAwawe
      @MrAwawe 3 місяці тому +1

      @@pondguru If it's porous then the shape doesn't really matter. A porous cube, tetrahedron, or cylinder would also have very high surface area. In fact, if the level of porosity is equal, those will all have a higher surface area compared to their volume than a sphere would. Yes, these rocks have very high surface areas because they are porous, but it's got nothing to do with the fact that they are made of little spheres. Little pyramids or icosahedra would have produced the same effect.
      Your statement that "A sphere has the greatest surface area of any shape" is not simply wrong; it is the opposite of the truth.

      @@MrAwawe Thanks for the education and I feel stupid that I blindly copied that from an early paper on the media without checking the information being presented.
      Although that voice in the video is not me (I am English) the maker of the video would have definitely copied that information from online, probably from my website so I'm off to change that now if I can find it since I don't want to mislead anyone.
      I will change it to something like below:
      The Biohome media has such a huge available surface area since the sand particles are fused at the point where they touch. Since the sand particles are mostly spherical that creates more accessibility between them and more useful passages and usable surface area deep into the structure.
      Thanks again for pointing this out and all the best with your tank.
      Update: I found it and changed the information - it was on the 'About Biohome' page of the FilterPro website.

      Also, since you would be ordering online you would likely have no way of selecting the rocks you preferred most. Not like there will be an image of every rock in every different shape, size, &/or weight to choose from. I'm not sure how you would be able to sell that rock without that ability. Some items need to be viewed prior to purchase & aquarium rock/decor is one of them in my opinion.
