Just so everyone knows: it's now late March, 2018 and we saw Fang and her herd this week, all in fine form. Fang even went swimming! However, it was sad & frustrating to see Fang in such obvious pain and not be able to do a thing for her during the filming of this video! Fortunately, Nature took a gentle course with her, and she's now as amazing an elephant matriarch as you'd ever want to see! (As always!) 💗🐘💗
Thanks for the update. Sad that's she not been around as much this year. Would just be reassuring to see her more often. At least Tristan has seen her this year.
AWEEEEEEE Tristan ... I can absolutely assure you that Fang could hear and comprehend YOUR every word and thought too. THANK YOU soooooooo much for that ... well, for showing your heartfelt concern and pure LOVE for her. :) WOW!!!! You and all your fellow colleagues often remind me that MAN hasn't entirely lost the plot and that we're still capable of compassion, empathy and an unconditional LOVE for others 'great 'n small' from deep within. :) THANK YOU SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO VERY MUCH! xoxoxoxoxoxox ~Durbs~ xox
We don't know , all I know is that no one has seen her since. I don't understand it you would think someone would see her .. I'm as worried about her as you all are trust me . If I hear anything at all I will send you a message
MsDebbiB Hi, MsDebbiB, speaking of not seeing her again, if she passed on, wouldn't someone know? Would her remains smell?...perhaps not I suppose if scavengers found her quickly. (not sure how that all works.) However, has her herd been seen and another matriarch apparent?
I was thinking that was it bc she was showing delivery behaviors, but she was obviously not in full-term "bloom."...Hope she'll have more live births! 💞🐘💞
She is such the beautiful female you are so privileged to be there with them I do love them so .they are so intelligent and my heart breaks for all the one put in places they don’t belong this is so lovely to see .
Such a touching sight with Fang. Glad Tristan got to see her the other day, Been a long time since any of us had seen her. Now we just have to catch up with Short Trunk.
I don’t consider elephants to be wild animals any more than I do humans. Their capacity for culture, intellectual communion and reason give them a station far higher than that of ‘wild animal’. We’ve seen them do some absolutely incredible things such as, resuscitate an unresponsive birth with obviously intentional and precisely-aimed back kicks to the abdomen. There’s also a video here somewhere that shows an elephant literally wringing amniotic fluid from an infants trunk in an effort to clear its airway. She was successful. BTW. Elephants are fuckin’ awesome.
MsBebbiB I think the Safari guides need to make a plan and make a special search for her. I believe it is the right thing to do. So many of us are very concerned for her safety and health. The young bull ellie stressed her out greatly. Im sure there is an incredible ground to comb over but this is Matriark Fang.
The area is far, far too large for any kind of search effort. Elephants travel hundreds of miles in their wanderings. All they can do is keep watch in their normal duties and hope she is seen again.
Thanks for posting this, Debbi - I tuned in at the end of the live Safari and didn't know what had happened to her and didn't know when they'd post the video. You make it easy to follow the interesting things that happen on SafariLive!!!
I love animals. I really enjoyed this video!!!! I wish I could give the animals a hug. Thank you so much for the video. Very interesting!!!! Happy new year
MsDebbiB I did mention my concern for Fang's not having been seen since and a comment response a little while ago on the Safari Live mentioned that they often disappear for months at a time on their long distance meanderings so hopefully Fang is OK. I love elephants so much. They are so intelligent and gentle. She did stand up again and seemed better.
Are you certain. There are more than a few videos of medical folks treating various ellie illnesses and injuries in the bush. I think every park has vets they can call on to be flown out to treat ellies with major/life threatening problems. The situation in this video was reported to game park officials but they determined she was having a miscarriage and didn't need any intervention. This was apparently the right call since several folks are reporting seeing her on their tours in 2018. These ellies are tough and rarely need help with a health issue.
I do not know when this occurred. I have just watched this film. I am concerned for this female elephant and I really feel that you must do something. Because today is 3/17/2021, I have no idea how long this film was taken. I would like to know how she is doing or if there was a definitive result. Did she ever get care?
Why can't Videographers ever shut up so you can experience the moment for once? Even when he said he was going to be quiet for a little while he was quiet for precisely five seconds before yapping on again about how he was feeling. Very irritating!
lol had to start talking about diarrhea while I'm eating oatmeal at that 😂 anyhow watch how animals move in harmony with each other, that's how humans are suppose to be moving to.
omgh im, eating oatmeal as well because i am (here iy comes...TMI) constipated... Just had to tell you that ... and its 2 years later. so lets check back here in 2022 and see how this works out
Pam Landy: That’s exactly what I was thinking too. Especially since if she was stressed out about being around them & the car she would’ve been dripping out of her temporal glands but she wasn’t or just moved away from them & used something else as a barrier. She always stopped when she started to discharge & when she was done she used the time the male was smelling it to get away from him. It really did look like she was using them as a protection barrier to keep the male away from her, like T said “like a tree would be used.” The only thing I can’t really figure out is why she wouldn’t &/or didn’t go back to the safety of her herd?! Maybe it was because of the male but like T said he was young so he’s not going to be aggressive @ all to the herd, her & to them, so Idk. Any ideas on that one?! Be safe!!
I don't think they have seen her either to be able to give us one, but the good thing is that no Elephant carcass as been seen and that's something you can't hide ...
I immediately thought she was about to deliver an ellie! The times ive watched an elephant give birth theyve acted real similar if not identical to how shes acting. The difference being where the mucous is coming from and that the mother giving birth stops walking. Shes gonna stand in one spot but walking backwards n in circles. This girl keeps walking ahead
👩my name Johanna) Its been 2 yrs since this clip was done. Are there any answers as to what happened ? If she is trying to give birth, i wonder if the baby is breeched.

Aww... that's probably so painful! Having diarrhea hurts... and when your organs are that big! Also, the herd watches her EVERY move, so showing pain or weakness puts her in a situation where she might have to soon prove herself! The bull elephant reminds me of a human the way he follows her. She's like...oh heck no...I am in no mood to mate!
Is this the famous elephant that bring her herd and caft go throught the lobby of one hotel to eat wild mango in their backyard? I heard she hasn't arrived there for serveral years.

Yes just to know she was ok make my day ..
Simply lovely to see these elephants together In the field glad this lady elephant feels better ♥️
Man I wish I could help her. Hold her trunk and give her a gentle hug. Letting her know that she'll be alright.
Just want you to know that she came through this just fine..

Slap that dust on Fang, keep predators from knowing you’re sick
So, what ended up being wrong with Fang?!?! I was in awe!
Thank you! You're right, I did see her very recently on safari live wildearth. My daily peace. 😊
How wonderful! They really care about each other's. Thanks.
She trusts you more than the bull, that's I know for sure. And she's still alive and healthy up till now Nov 2019
I have this video before ,I am enjoying watching it again. Thank you..Tristan.
Would the wildlife vets have attended to her, if needed? I would really like to know.
*August 2020... Anyone seen Fang recently? Hope she’s still doing well and leading her lovely family!* 🙏🏻

any more sightings of Fang, it april 2020.
This is one of the most weird animal behavior I have ever seen in my life and a human is in between it 🤣
Not weird at all, once you know she was in the process of having a miscarriage + the young male was curious (bc he can smell the female hormones).
Love these videos. Please take a breather and don’t talk non stop. We can see what’s going on !
His talking is ok. Try to focus my friend.
Tristan..you are marvelous! I can offer to donate a vet fee if needed for her.

Anyone see Fang lately? All the jumping around to different locales has me missing my old faves.😟
I think she is asking you for help. There are plenty of trees there if she wanted distance from the bull. Poor old girl.

What has caused Fangs tusks to be crooked or different on each side?
Pls save the elephan god bless you all family and elephan bless
I saw this live when it happened. I wonder if she might have twisted her bowels accidentally? and when she laid down she realigned it?

We've had no update's sorry today :-( I"m worried as well !
Yes! She's good now, they just updated a year ago! They never quite worked out what it was.
Beautiful
I don't know elephants which is why I like to watch these vids. I have a question. Is it a thing where tusks face either way?
Did you ever show this video to a vet, who might be able to tell what was going on?
My one word- AWE!
MsDebbiB I have searched and searched, and I can't find ANY update on Fang. I am distressed not knowing...do you have ANY new information? Also, why is her tusk facing downward?
She is alright, we saw her not long ago and she was fine
MsDebbiB Hi!! I’m so happy to read that Fang has been recently spotted and doing well!! TY for all of these videos. 😊
Ohhhhh I am so very glad she has been spotted... I have been thinking about her for months.❤️🐘❤️🐘
We've seen her a couple times and yes so happy she's ok now
Oh thank God she’s doing ok! Absolutely love these creatures!

I’m not sure how ppl say they’re animal activists/lovers ect & not intervening when something seems wrong.
Also why aren’t the females helping to keep the bull away from her?, elephants are VERY family oriented ? Is the bull young enough he could be hers and he’s just extremely worried & that’s why they haven’t chased him off ?? .
That's not true about elephants not eating anything for their stomachs. There are certain roots they eat that helps them.
I think the bull wants to mate with her. That thing was over a foot long!
He’s too young. But he can dream.
The way the symptoms came on in waves its really did seem like miscarrage and normal to get some diarrhea. The bull reminds me of my male whippet when he was about 3 years old chacing my old female whippet around.
Did you tell /show the behaviour to a vet? The dust maybe her way of getting rid of her scent. It’s very frustrating not knowing.
When u eat too much greens ull have bloating
I'm pretty sure she had to pass a kidney stone; they hurt like hell and she is peeing quite a bit as it passes.
How is fang doing
The last time we saw her she was doing really well.
Still well, I've seen her recently in SL this week Nov 2019

Não, eles não podem chamar um veterinário, mas ela foi vista desde então e está indo bem com seu rebanho.
Is she OK now ?
Yes she is fine as far as I know
