      Hot take- I think it does excuse her culpability. It's obviously wrong, but I don't think she understood how wrong it was because her entire life to that point had been such a disaster, and death was a normal part of it. I think it was just tragic. She seems to have obtained sanity later in life, so it does seem to be a direct consequence of her abuse and neglect.

    Tbf to Mary, her childhood was shocking. So I’m not surprised she turned out that way. She just needed some love and she’d turn out alright. This is why I frown upon neglect of a child, because it can easily turn children/young people into killers

      Oh my god… @dannywynnyk638, If an average (not a perfect and angelic kid) went through all that, of course they’d do this…. I feel so bad for her…. She probably was angry about how most kids her age were happy and normal and never had to go through any of that… and felt like her friend, Susan, was like a traitor or something, because, after trauma, even small things like forgetting to give someone a birthday-gift can feel like a big deal……

      @zarajauhar350 17 годин тому

      Okay, I’d like to know about your trauma… did you bump your head? Is that why you spell so “‘basly’”??
      (Look, I sound quite rude but I really don’t want random people to say that they’ve been through trauma when they might’ve just had very mild experiences - or worse, a completely normal childhood/adulthood experience with a few unhappy bits - which everyone experiences (that you might be referring to as “trauma”)…
      You really can’t compare that to actual trauma, and that’s pretty disgraceful to people who might’ve actually experienced trauma and abuse.

    • @ac1119
      @ac1119 7 днів тому

      @@zachdalmaso2131 I don’t think it’s an excuse per se, just an error. I mean if her murderous/psychopathic tendencies were solely the product of her environment she is obviously culpable but at that age far less, and if it’s hereditary/biological the same logic applies. Tragic for all parties involved (except the mother. I’ve seen people like her and they breed little monsters or hollow children).

    • @Trey5S5S
      @Trey5S5S 3 дні тому

      @@ac1119 I think people in this society are very inconsistent when it comes to determining culpability and accountability. If a toddler hears people around them swearing a lot and then one day starts to swear, we wouldn't say they were at fault because we understand that they were only conditioned to do so by their environment and their natural human instinct to mimic others. Yet, somehow the same logic ceases to apply when they do something more extreme, like harming or killing, and now all of a sudden they're at fault for it. Nature and nurture don't suddenly stop being a direct cause to how a person thinks and acts when they do something you don't like.

I was 13 and somehow I was terrified of her, however, my family handled her with care. The reason I mentioned is maybe some children are born with some kinda abnormality, but it's the environment that nourishes things further... Had Merry had a better life with more mature/responsible parents and healthy living conditions, things wouldn't have turned this way...

Unfortunately like most of us we talk about people chitting on one another, or finding true love , or crime stories e.t.c. Unfortunately young people listen to such stories and wish others to talk about them too. And in the process the young once fall in the trap too . Like an unhappy marriage in order to find someone better without improving each other , children trying to find true love without knowing the meaning of love and similarly involved in wrong activities for being gossiped by others . Sometimes it is not for any of the regions mentioned above, but sometimes it is all about self satisfaction. Like if you are suffering from the actions of others , when you are in power you will start justifying your actions if you harm others by saying I had suffered by the people around me and no one helped me . Without knowing the fact that my actions had started the never ending cycle of hatred.

    Idk how I feel about this. Children can’t be diagnosed with personality disorders until age 18. Their personalities are still forming, which means they can be rehabilitated. Mary was not a psychopath, and she didn’t have an Antisocial Personality. At best, she had Conduct Disorder. Children who have Conduct Disorder, even children who have killed, have been rehabilitated. Once they are removed from the environment that caused their trauma, they have a much better chance. I’m glad to know that she was able to turn her life around, like many children have. I wish she had been able to get help before things got to the point where she’d taken a life.

Her getting released and being given a new identity is an insult to those two little boys she killed, andto their families. She caused those boys to die painful deaths, and that slate shouldn't just be wiped clean.
