Unsurprisingly the only ones who made it were non-native english speakers from countries with Germanic languages. As an American or Brit travelling that deep inside German would have been basically impossible. They were doomed
There is movie about this escape from 1963 with Steve McQueen, called The Grat Escape. I guess 3 of them who survived knew german, and that helped a lot. That's why americans and british are caught.
My family is from Germany and I am thankful for men like these that saved our homeland from the tyrannical rule of the Nazi's. Today my biggest worry is whether or not I will have time to play video games when I get home, and it's the price in blood many of these men paid that allow me to have such trivial problems. I will never forget their sacrifice, I pray their souls have found peace 😢
Very unfortunate that they found the tunnel that quickly otherwise the escapees would have had a day or more to make their way through Germany before their absence would've been noticed
Amazing video. The production quality is always impeccable on this channel. One comment I have about the American flag seen at 5:43 - it was the 48-Star Flag during WW2, which could help with historical immersion :) but it takes nothing away from the video
And if the allies lost the war they would have all been killed. They were all airmen who had been shot down so had already evaded death at least once before, so taking another chance was better than doing nothing. Planning and doing something - anything - towards the thought of escape was huge booster for morale and a defence against depression. You said “betrayal of trust”; you gotta be kidding me. The only reason they were alive was because of mutual obligations under Geneva conventions. The negotiating parties could have come up with “the obligation to humanely house prisoners of war come with an obligation of prisoners to not try to escape” - notably no one ever ever thought that was a good idea. In all camps on all sides there was a “moral code” and sense of duty to try to escape.

SECRET TUNNEL
"I don't really remember the lyrics, but then it goes 'SECRET TUNNEL! SECRET TUNNEL!!'"
I'm not entirely sure how you could completely overlook mentioning the movie The Great Escape, which is exactly about this escape at this camp.

Does someone know how they hid the tunnel from the ferrets if the houses where elevated from the ground?
Great watch...Brilliant work.

Words cannot express how glad I am that this comment is here.
ONG!
I really really love the animations! Some of the greatest I’ve seen, they really make me think of the Hitman Go artstyle
one might call it *the great escape*
greatest war movie ever
Very unfortunate that they found the tunnel that quickly otherwise the escapees would have had a day or more to make their way through Germany before their absence would've been noticed
The production quality is inspiring
love that the tunnels were called Tom D and Harry
These videos are always visually exceptional.

Incredible, thank you for making another masterpiece
I have waited for this moment for so long. Now, "COOLER".

Going into this, I should have known it was the story The Great Escape was based on!

Make a video about OfLag IV c / Colditz Castle pls, very similar and even cooler, they fled with a self build glider
Glider was built, never launched.

@IMPERIALYT You forgot to cut the ad read out of the captions for the nebula video.
Thanks for bringing this to my attention - I've temporarily replaced them with auto-generated subtitles while I edit the subs. Sorry for the nuisance!
Should be all fixed now!

GREATEST THE ESCAPE IN HISTORY
Cycles in blender?
First 15k views baby.
AYO!
Crazy how if they waited a few months, the war would have ended.
💚💚
A 3.95% percent success rate doesn't really sound like the greatest escape in history to me.
Woahh i guess im the first one here
first
they never should have tried to escape. Such a waste of time and betrayal of trust. They had a library and a swimming pool for gods sake. Sounds nice.
And if the allies lost the war they would have all been killed. They were all airmen who had been shot down so had already evaded death at least once before, so taking another chance was better than doing nothing.
