You should definitely check out the music video on your own time because it was chosen as the best Finnish music video ever made and let's just say that there is a very good reason for it.😄 btw. I'm the one who requested this banger😊Greeting from Finland!
Also they are extremely versatile they have soft rock like this song, they have ballads, they have hard rock, electric/techno-ish rock and the lyrics are always filled with literal poetry, rhyming, actual meaning and the music videos are always done with artistic mindset first and they never give the audience the meaning of the songs/videos and rather let everyone experience and interpret the songs in their own way.
Im from Finland and Poets Of The Fall came famous first in USA and after that in Finland, they lived in US for years. They made name with the theme song from Max Pain 2 video game 2003 called Late Goodbuy.
I discovered Poets of the Fall from playing a game called Control, they appear in the game as both the Poets of the Fall and as a band called the Old Gods Of Asgard, where they have written and performed a song specifically written for the game. They did this with a game called Alan Wake also. Both games are made by the same studio
Marko's mother is British, so that's probably the explanation for his wonderful manner of speaking and singing English. He writes all his songs in English. All the albums are 100% English lyrics. And I don't think of POTF as a metal band. Marko has one of the best head voices I've ever heard; his falsetto is fantastic.
You should look up the music video of this song. Really good stuff. Another Finnish band to check is Steve'n'Seagulls. Allthough most would say look up "Thunderstruck", I would recommend their cover of "November Rain". They have their own style.
Thank you for this video ! POTF is my all time favorite band, and release after release, they always come up with something new that sounds nostalgic in a certain way, and i never get tired of their tunes. Also is my go to band to practice my singing :D
POTF have many good songs and I would suggest many, but sticking with one I'll mention the song Illusion And Dream. That was the song that first got me to listen to the band when I heard it on the radio during my conscription duty. And now, like in many other videos on youtube, I slam that like button for the best reason: I see cat!
I have loved Poets since high school. And Marko’s falsetto is actually pretty damned good. It’s showcased in some of their other songs, like Daze and Cradled in Love. In this I think it’s near the end of the show, so he’s a bit tired lol Their videos are often very high concept and artsy lol. Check them out in your time
About his voice. This was the 17th song they played out of 19 that night so I imagine that has at least something to do with how some of the vocals sound. Especially since they didn't really have any brakes between the songs and pretty much just plowed through them with short interludes here and there to fit as much songs as possible to the show since it was their 10 year anniversary tour.
Another great analysis. I was really enjoying the track but I couldn't put my finger on it and you nailed it. It was the depth of the tone of the song and it's melody. First time hearing them and need to checkout more.
I dont know if this is allready suggested. Another great band from my coyntry 🇫🇮. Amorphis and a song called Death of a King or amongst stars. Bouth great unice songs 👌 Old band which is evolving with every album. Greez from Finland love the channel and your out take
I was like 😮??? as well, but keep in mind this was his first time listening to Marko’s vocals, so he cannot know what those of us who have listened to all of their albums know: That Marko’s use of falsetto is one of his common trademarks, that it is a very strong and solid falsetto, and that due to his classical training he usually has perfect control of his voice. We’re all human, after all.
You should do a double reaction to the song Angel, from the orignal CD and the acustic versión, I would love to see your comments on how different the versions are.
Dear Concurguru, I only found this reaction now. You should give the official video of this song a shot too, certainly worthy it for the evocative imagery

One of my favorite songs! And it's already on their first album! Although I’m a Nightwish fan and more generally a melodic metal fan (since 1970), I also like other music like POTF. The reason for Marko Saaresto's excellent pronunciation is that his mother used to live in England and spoke English to him. In addition Marko was an exchange student in Florida and Ireland during his student years.
Marko is a classically trained singer, so bearing in mind that he has probably sang about 10+ songs before this and done multiple shows on the bounce prior to this recording- his voice is exquisite. This song is very mainstream in Finland, so calling it that is not an insult. I remember this as kid in Finland it was everywhere and ofc I hated it lol. This is the only song I know from this band too. People in Finland study English in school for over 10 years, so the level here is good. Ok, now I get it, excellent song, I'm so disillusioned with UK and American music, more so with the radio stations, mostly I listen to Nightwish, Ayreon,Sabaton and recently discovered SKÁLD , now a new rabbit hole to dive down.
To me the most impressive song from this band is -> Poets of the Fall: Angel (Alexander Theatre Sessions LIVE version). It's stripped down as heck but it still manage to sound insanely rich/full.
POTF is another example of a fantastic band that you will never hear on the radio. They are a independent band that pays for everything. Thats why they never tour the US. It's a shame, they should be a household name.
This also great song and super exciting and mesmerising video "Poets of the Fall - Daze (Official Video w/ Lyrics)" - ua-cam.com/video/di7NMssrqsE/v-deo.html. Haven't seen lots reactions to this.. If you don't react to it, then check the video out, because it is really catchy 🤟
If you still have channel strings to pull. Do it! They have magnificent bunch of songs of stripped down songs sung in Alexander Theater (no audience, just artists) the surroundings gives something special...
I'm a huge PotF fan and I'm not offended at all. I know their sound is mainstream as hell and I don't care. But I think you should react to more of their songs. They're a great band and I'm getting kinda sick that everyone's only reacting to this one song. They're not a "one hit wonder", they've stayed incredibly consistent over almost 20 years now. They got plenty of songs even better than this. Check out War, 15 Minute Flame, Smoke & Mirrors, Revolution Roulette, Late Goodbye, The Poet and The Muse, Passion Colors Everything, False Kings, Revelations. I could go on, but I guess that's enough for now. You won't be disappointed, I promise.
As a metal head, I never thought of them as metal. All I know is it's good! If I heard this on the radio I would have rushed out to buy the CD (back when I listened to the radio) That said, he has a very 90s rock/metal voice/tone to his voice. Disturbed and the like
Kinda funny when you said "This has a good mainstream sound to it", because Finnish metal bands wouldn't really see it as an insult because metal IS mainstream here. It doesn't get much more mainstream metal here than Children of Bodom. I think this mentality of "being mainstream" being an insult is a bit of an Americanism where you don't simply hear a lot of metal in the mainstream. Meanwhile Finnish easy listening radio stations straight up plays Metallica, Apocalyptica and other hard rock music that would usually be reserved for rock stations. Finnish metal doesn't avoid going mainstream, but they will still just do their own thing because metal can be mainstream here right next to the softest of pop hits.
Hmmm . . . you didn't appear to appreciate his old-school baritone falsetto. If so, you will dislike a few of their other tunes where he uses it considerably more. Nice reaction, though. Decent breakdown, as well. Good job.
You should react to the old A-ha song Take on me with the Northern Kings maybe you could call it a Finnish "boy band" *Big big smile* ua-cam.com/video/GkHJRrMwmSQ/v-deo.html

If I heard this on the radio I would have rushed out to buy the CD (back when I listened to the radio)
That said, he has a very 90s rock/metal voice/tone to his voice. Disturbed and the like
"Good try?" I'd like to hear you pull it off...
The singer of this band looks like he belongs in Tool or A Perfect Circle haha
Wtf live? Oh my g

I concur!
Great band, wonderful song! Marco has an incretable voice...
But if you would like to listen to the greatest voice alive you should check on Dimash. And as you like rock music try "Across Endless Dimensions". You will be surprissed...
It's not metal man. Poets of the fall haven't ever been Metal per se.
