    There was a guitarist in the LA area back in the early 80's named John Wood. He used the original Maestro Echoplex in his live shows. He was able to create a sound I have yet to hear anywhere! He could even duplicate the sounds of seagulls, wicked blues leads! I set about trying to find one for years and pretty much gave up locating one.

    This is the only video to demonstrate the Trails/true bypass mode. Thanks

    What a great job! Thanks for a great review. My Uncle had an Echoplex and I've always wanted one.

    Some good advice for anyone thinking of getting this or that has this pedal. Know that it has some special power requirements. You cannot use a 9 volt battery to operate this pedal. You open up the back and there is no battery hookup. It's chalk full of components taking up the space that the battery normally resides in this sized pedal, you know the regular boss, MXR's of the World. The Echoplex was designed for high headroom. While it does operate at 9 volts DC power, not 18 mind you, it runs at 250mA, not 100mA, I repeat not 100maA! This means you must use the cheap adapter that comes with the pedal, or another power supply that has this power rating.
    I have the Voodoo Labs Pedal Power 2 plus and I spent an hour today figuring out why it wasn't working when I was plugging it in. First it got no power from the Voodoo, but weird it did from the supplied power adapter. I was getting pissed. I was thinking something was wrong with my Voodoo or the pedal. Then I recalled reading the Echoplex manual and there was some weirdness regarding the power requirements. I got the Voodoo manual out and re-read the Echoplex user manual and also did an online search as well, on the Voodoo chatboards. What I discovered today is that you have to use either output 5 or 6 on the Voodoo as these outputs run at 9 volts 250mA, while outputs 1-4 run at 9 volts 100mA. This with the dipswitches in the normal positions.
    100mA is normal and sufficient to power most pedals, all of my other pedals as matter of fact, but not the bitchin Echoplex. It runs at 250mA and has higher headroom. I read somewhere that internal components in it actually bump up the 9 volts you supply to 20 volts for high headroom to preserve and keep artifacts from clipping. Nice!. Once I plugged it into output 5 it worked like a charm! Stoked. Pedal sounds so fucking good and I'm ripping up Bytor and the Snowdog and other Rush songs with it.
    So just to recap, remember if you can't get the fucker to work it's because you most likely have a power supply running at 100mA and you need 250mA. If you are trying the pedal out at GC or another store, make sure you are using the correct power or it won't get any lights going and or it'll have blinking lights and make a weird pulsating noise basically telling you something is wrong.

      Hi there, I am not very sure what all of this means. I own a Pedaltrain Volto V3 that outputs 6200mAh of power (max 2000 mA), will I be able to run this pedal using this power supply?

    • @guerrerosdecarton
      @guerrerosdecarton 5 років тому

      @@thefifaminecraftian I had a problem similar to Wyatt Scott. I put the echoplex on my pedaltrain, at the end of the chain. I used my 1spot combo to power up the echoplex with 5 other pedals, then I noticed that the echoplex emitted an acute low-level noise. I disconnected the 1spot and tried the Godlyke Power-All system, but the results were the same. After having tried several positions between my pedals, I checked the manual and realized that the echoplex requires 240 mA to function properly. So, I bought a pedaltrain spark and connected the other pedals to the 100mA outputs and the echoplex to the 500mA output and finally the noise disappears. If you are going to buy an echoplex, make sure you have a power supply with isolated outputs and one of the outputs must be 250 mA or higher.

      It means you should always read the instructions before you plug in a pedal.

    Definitely has a vintage vibe, but for me i didn't love the way the knobs interacted when i checked one out + i'm more drawn to pedals with a soft on/off switch, especially live. They did a great job getting all the mojo into one box, maybe it would've been better to make it bigger and add some addtional options like the preamp, tap tempo, etc. MXR makes great stuff, so this is a nice addition, especially for people hauling around the original Echoplex units....

      Yeah he uses pretty much all digital delays these days, and the MXR is indeed digital, it just sounds more like the old Echoplex. The older digital delays had a sound quite similar to the Binson Echorec Gilmour used.
      He has a couple of Boss DD-2s, MXR rack delays, Providence Chrono, and T-Rex Replica (I have one of those, phenomenal delay).
      The MXR + a Boss DD-7 and you're pretty much sorted for DG. Or just get a TC Nova delay!

      Echoplex for tape delay. CC is analog, and for that, I'd take a Maxon AD9 Pro or the Way Huge Aqua Puss or Supa Puss over a CC.

    Which is the best octave pedal?

    • @krispatel1
      @krispatel1 8 років тому +1

      Up or down? I prefer analogue to digital ones like the pog. If you do too then check out the foxrox octron

    • @gorsedh
      @gorsedh 8 років тому +1

      Down

    • @krispatel1
      @krispatel1 8 років тому

      The octron does that probably the best out of all of the analogue ones but you would need to work out if that or digital would be the better option for your rig. Ehx make a good digital octave pedal which you can add an expression pedal to also. I only use the octron for single note phrases rather than chords

    • @mercuryfaith
      @mercuryfaith 8 років тому +1

      Yes, it's expensive but not so expensive after all. This pedal offers some unique features for a real vintage sound. Many other delay, like Strymon Timeline (450$) offers more versatility and very high quality but aren't built to get a vintage sound. Many other offers a real analogic sound (Seymour Duncan Vapor Trail 150$, Mxr Carbon Copy 150$, Electro Harmonix Deluxe Memory Man 220$...). This pedal is specific for a vintage sound and, compared with other pedals, it's not so expensive after all (:

    • @michaelwoods9005
      @michaelwoods9005 5 років тому +1

      @@jaimers3101 different sounding pedals. Memory man is an analog delay with modulation, this is a digital delay that's emulating a tape unit. They're both good, just in different ways.
