Does it therefore mean something similar to: computer program? On this matter, are there any non-countable words in Hungarian which aren't not ever used in the plural form, and similarly, any words which are always plural?

Yes, "szoftver" is a computer program, just like in English.
And no, there are no non-countable words in Hungarian.
