One of the main reason of Lakshya failing on box office is that majority of single screen theatres in India were shutting down (ref the challo show) and multiplex had not fully taken over, as the piracy was on rampage and people were getting CDs and players at home!! That era became graveyard of many good new experimental cinemas from 2000 to 2005

Lakshya isn't patriotic and "about India". Sure, it inspired many to join the army, but it is first and foremost a journey of a slacker who transforms into a disciplined man with an objective

i don't personally love tamasha movie but i am huge fan of ANBE SIVAM one of the masterpiece of indian cinema. that how we are different guys. today the so called indian cinephiles are viewing indian movie in western way but not in indian way of viewing. indian way is different that movie don't need to have intimate scene to clarify the love between two persons like the movie "96" did. that's indian style and western style is you need to have intimate scenes then only it's accepted that's a love story. different cultures have different ideas.

Oh god so true.... Sometimes the inner desi us would b enjoying masala elements in a movie, but the Western ppl or movies influenced us to watch the toned down movies... I mean v r 'masala', sometimes v do crave some cheesy scenes, cos that's what who v r and how v grew up, and i really starting to hate when ppl say 'I hate indians commercial movies' and forgot they grew up watching and enjoying these movies... I understand when foreigners don't like an Indian movie that v embrace, but i really don't get it when an Indian hates that movie

      Finally someone said this.
Do I relate to the person that Tamasha tried to show? Absolutely, have been that person since way before Tamasha came out.
But do I like the film? No, it seems half baked, spoils the premise. It felt like it wasn't made by someone who has been through this struggle, though I so wanted it to be the case.

They don´t go to see what's happening around them, they go to dream. Nawaz having none solo hit or irrfan having one solo hit clearly indicates that. legendary director MMD once said-"You have a lot of time to think. Think before going/after coming out of theatre. Theatres are not the place to think. Its place to get you entertain". Even news channel don´t work in india without entertainment.

Swadesh didn't work because it's too fake. Movie plot location is supposed to be UP. Neither the terrain the fields look like UP nor the people look from any part of UP. They do not dress nor talk like people from UP.
The idea that a scientist leaving his job in NASA for that village and girl is utopian by itself. He could have helped his villagers more effectively even while keeping the job. On top of it they couldn't even create the authentic location.
( they could have their story set in Maharashtra itself. I don't get why they thought it was a good idea to call it UP). In short movie fails to make a connection with larger audience.

Lakshya flopped because of excessive portion devoted to war scene. Amitabh was below average in that movie. Also the first half and the war part were so diverse that they didn't gel in one. People liked Border (though I feel it was a below average film) because it remained true to its genre - war film - from beginning to the end.
Btw the list is grossly incomplete because it doesn't include many notable mentions.
The first and foremost is: Andaaz Apna Apna.
It didn't do well at Box Office (wasn't a flop either). But it went on to become an all time cult comedy movie. No list csn be complete without AAA.

Even now, the hate that PS 2 is getting from certain netizens, is affecting its performance at the box office. Fortunately, majority of the audience are going to watch it anyway.

    • @thehawkseye3412
      @thehawkseye3412 Рік тому +3

Mani is a good director but PS is not strong enough. It was an average watch. One reason is that story is too big and condensing it in two parts means no time to flesh out the story.
I watched PS1 twice - since first time it was hard to keep track of who was who. (too many characters and long names). Then I read the original novel for better understanding.
Apart from these two issues, I felt director couldn't let go of his Leftist bias and didn't try to tell why we should cheer for Cholas. Vikram mentioned their floodgates on Kaveri and irrigation system in a press talk. However it should have been mentioned in the movie itself. First 15-20 minutes are wasted on long Kaveri song. That song could have better montage of Chola kingdom's achievements and actual life style of the people or the plot- ongoing conflicts. But it was neither.
Original song maybe great. Dub version was boring and literally pointless. It was like women in chola times had no work but to dance all day long with random strangers/travelers passing through.
The much hyped chak chak song does not represent Chola times and original Tamil dances mentioned in novel.Choreography was modern take on an ancient dance and ritual. So it lacks authentic flavour. Monkey dance of Bali was developed in 19th century and to tell Ramayana story. So the promotion that they found some original dance from Tamil culture of ancient times there, was misleading.
Another sore thumb was chinese acupuncture promotion in the movie- why not ayurveda and or some native traditional medical practice? The acupuncture scene is not mentioned in the novel. It was a choice made by director which adds nothing to the movie.
If you are that shy of promoting Chola in a movie made on Chola history then you cannot blame audience who get a bland movie.
Not to forget all the main actors are way too old for the characters they are playing. Though it is a common issue in Indian cinema, no matter which region.

Anbe sivam is not loved because of its religious aspect. It is bcz the movie is about communism. 😅
Unlike in your country, communism is considered as a great thing in India. There are thousands of movies about communism in India.😂

Most of the Telugu, Tamil & Kannada movies are made to please mass, but actually those are not worthy to watch. There are less people who really loves good movies. Everyone wants KGF, Bahiballi type of movies which are neither technically sound nor performed well by actors. I don't know where we are moving.

'I wish people would let creators create' meaning we should pay to watch sub par boring movies just cuz they claim to be ahead of the times? Give me a break. Art can either be about outreach or stand on its own. Very few movies are able to be both. Watch what you can. Don't deride someone who wants to watch Dabangg instead of boring slogs like black friday
