I agree that Downfall is much much better overall. It's still marvellous to see Anthony Hopkins playing that role back in 1981. The only thing that bothers me in Downfall is that the accounts of Hanna Reitch were not included in Downfall, but she and Greim had a more sombre perspective of reality entering the bunker and seeing how detached the individuals there were from reality, then what is made out in the film Downfall, where she is presented like a Führer cheerleader.

Apart from that DOWNFALL did not touch on Hitler's hatred of the Jews. Bruno Ganz however looked every bit like Adolf Hitler and the other actors who played his inner circle, Goering, Goebbles, Himmler, and Keitel looked every bit like the real thing.
Oh yes, Indian Hitler (Eva, Magda, Goebbels, Speer etc.)... I watched it as an epic comedy. Still dissapointed that they weren't singing and dancing in the bunker, except Eva.
@JimmySmers Then read the memoirs comparatively, weather they were Nazi loyalists or not. Especially suggest the memoirs of one Albert Speer (very self serving and selective compilation). It is a pity that Speer's "viewpoint" seemed to get quite a weight in the movie Downfall. And just to add to that comparison, then the technical history book "The Rocket and the Reich: Peenemünde and the Coming of the Ballistic Missile Era" by Neufeld is a sobering read and therefor a must.
Jimmy, Downfall was great, yah they didn't spend much time on Communist crimes, but if you're waiting for the film industry to ever do that, you'll be waiting a long, long time.
Writing in 2023 and the war in Ukraine and proxy war with Russia we might see some change after all the Nazis have become tiresome we've heard it all before over and over again
I find it interesting to see movies/videos like these which makes it seem like the Reich is still around in some form. As if it survived and exists today. Isn't there a movie or book about that?
