Have been to Cancun many times. The simple best advice is to trust no one and figure things out yourself. Otherwise, you will almost assuredly become a victim.
Hello yeah it should be ok as long you are getting a legal temporary permit to stay i would not advise trying to do that on a tourist visa also learning the language would help if you plan to stay longer for security I would not be concerned unless you looking for trouble by your own thanks for your comment
@Sharks The laws are getting tougher here now it is up to the immigration officer at the border to decide how long you can stay he will be determined that on your hotel booking reservation and airplane ticket back home yes the law says up to 180 days but it is not guaranteed you will get it and if you run into an immigration sweep which they do more often on tourist hot spots and resorts you will be back on a plane to rainy England within 3 days so my advice is to go get a legal temporary stay called FMM if money is no issue then just show them you earning a few thousands a month from any source back home and you get a pensionado permit which you can stay unlimited time do al legal transactions like having a bank account and so on but cannot work here i hope this helps
@Sharks keep in mind the immigration officer may ask for sufficient funds to prove I think 50 dollars is the daily rate x your stay be prepared to have that to show at the border also check out the expats forums there you can read up on this matter
@Sharks last month they deported 330 foreigners just in this State just so you know just being straight with you before you make all the effort to come here and then run into issues you could have avoided
I was in Cancun for the first time in sep of 2021, we were a group of 6 and saw so many of these scams. They tried pulling the car rental one on us saying it had damages after we returned it. Luckily i took my go pro and took video all around the vehicle and inside when they gave it to us. I recommend going to a Walmart or big supermarket when you're buying souvenirs or alcohol bottles they'll cost you a lot less.
I will be going in May 2023 will hire bikes.. thanks for heads up on before and after pictures was always approached to buy stuff in Italy but hear its different in Mexico
Unlucky me I rented an old shitty car and I did not take any pics!! And when I returned it they noticed the windshield was cracked!! To be honest I did not notice it if it was there before or not but I had to pay them $375 dollars the funny thing is I put insurance on Piece of shit car and they said You should have called the insurance when this happened!!! It was horrible!! Never again I’m renting a car in Cancun!!
Another thing that many places do, is that when you pay with credit card, they will say that they are going to charge you an extra FEE for using the credit card. The PROFECO, it is an institution to protect the consumer in Mexico, just released several days ago that it is ILEGAL to do that practice, even though, that it is very common in ALL MEXICO, not just in CANCUN. Ask them first, if they say that they do, you can tell them that you will call and ask the PROFECO ( Procuraduria federal del consumidor)
Most tourist shops have two prices. One for cash. And a higher one for credit cards. Their explanation is that the credit card companies charge them a fee (true), so they pass on part or all of that charge to the customer.
I just got back from Cancun. I really had an awesome time. When I landed in Cancun all the scammers were already waiting for you lol Luckily I speak Spanish. As soon as I spoke they didn’t even bothered lol Learning Spanish might help you out. Not once did any scammer try to hustle me when I spoke Spanish during my trip in Cancun.
Just got back from Cancun. Honestly all I can say is go with a lot of confidence don’t let the people bully you into buying from their stand. Learn the Currency and only pay with it. Fight the prices! You can lower the price on Souvenir stands, if they don’t walk away. ATM to go to is Banco Azteca you only pay a fee of .30 while others rip you off.
Just got back from Cancun. Speaking Spanish helps, their attitude changes when you speak the language. At the shopping center In this video they quote you a wild high price but lower it if you speak to them in Spanish.
I was in Cancun last Christmas and all this advice is spot on. I heard these stories from other tourists at our resort. Realize Mexico is a poor country and people need money and are willing to scam.
I appreciate you sharing your experience and validating the advice given in the video. It's important to spread awareness and help fellow travelers stay safe.
I fortunately knew the guy was a scammer. I was waiting for my ride and had a guy fake a phone call saying my ride called and said I should pay him & go with him and they'd reimburse me later. They do this to overwhelmed tourist. The Cancun airport is hectic. Hold on to tour luggage and make sure you know what your doing and where to find your people.
Good that you did not fall for it as a rule of thumb Ignore everyone that approaches you randomly offering anything to buy or go visit a place for free, and Don't accept anything from strangers, no coupons, no free 2x1 tickets, no discount coupons, no free breakfast, and you will be fine keeping those rules thanks for watching
I was victimized by corrupt police officers driving to the airport (traffic stop) in a rental car. Officer wanted $300 US dollars or I'd be taking to the station and mis my flight ; only after showing them my empty wallet and emptied my pockets showing I had no money, they let me go..its really unfortunate how they treat tourists! Jack
They will ALWAYS let you go, if you do not show the panic of missing the flight. If you do, what you just did, they will always let you go. Just be polite. Do not offer them money, if they ask, just say I do not have any. If they said, we are going to take you to the police station, say in a calm way, OK, I will pay the ticket there. (DO NOT USE foul language, do not get irritated, frustrated, do not be SARCASTIC OR IRONIC, just be calm. If they say to follow them to the station, put your google map and follow them. Usually they will fake taking you, and drive several blocks, until they notice that they are WASTING VALUE TIME to get another tourist. They will let you go.
I would like to add that I was at fault going over the speed limit. However, NOT all the police officers are bad or corrupt. there are a few that do the best to serve and protect.
You’re definitely right about the car rental insurance they wanted to charge us US$2000 to rent the car for four days and all of a sudden lowered it to 300 when we told them that they’re lying and we have insurance with a credit card
I was in Cancun in 97, 06, 2015, 2016 and 2017 and it was fine, then I went back in Nov20 and March 21. NEVER NEVER again. We like to leave the resort and it is non stop scammers and peddlers. You go to a restaurant and people come up to your table non stop wanting to take your photo or do a magic trick and when you go to outdoor bars, the little children come up non stop to sell you trinkets and people non stop want to sell you drugs. The place has gone to hell and has become quite expensive
Ok so I am not crazy I went in 2016 & 2017 and one thing I appreciated is that we were not bothered by peddlers that much. I just got back yesterday from Cancun and I was super annoyed it was non stop peddling and very aggressive where they would follow you. Even the waiters at the resort was trying to side hustle. Since their economy rely a lot on tourism the pandemic really did a number on them. I am going to chill on Cancun for a while.
@@Imola701 you can get scammed EVERYWHERE. Even at home. Please don’t forego exploring another culture or country because of fear. There are so many wonderful people to meet who are honest and kind. Just be aware of your surroundings and what to watch out for. :)
Cancun is the place to vacation, don’t listen to sellers, just take cash and don’t follow anybody, figure out things before you go otherwise you are at the mercy of whoever you find there
As beautiful as it all looks, it doesn't seem like much of a vacation if I constantly have to look out for scams, thieves, bait-and-switch sellers, having to either be blackmailed or jailed by the polizia, or just be massively overcharged because of the language barrier I'd already be dealing with. I had been considering trying Cancun, but, thanks to this video, I have reconsidered and will just admire their photos and videos and go somewhere else.
I truly appreciate your feedback and understand your concerns. It's important to note that while scams and challenges can be present in tourist destinations worldwide, not every visitor to Cancun encounters these issues. My intention with this video was to equip and empower travelers with information to help them navigate potential pitfalls rather than deter them. It's possible to have a fantastic, hassle-free experience in Cancun, especially if you're informed. That said, everyone's comfort level is different, and it's essential to choose a destination where you'll feel at ease. Whatever you decide, I wish you safe and enjoyable travels! 🌍✈
You must do your homework first before you go somewhere for the first time. Videos like this give good advice, and when you get to your destination, you´ll know what to do, where to go and who to avoid. And yes! Foreign credit cards and accents are a big help to overcharge o commit fraud.
yes im big on researching and staying organized for trips because i know my fam/friends wont do it and we'd be butt fucked somewhere overpaying and taken advantaged
The rental car ones aren't scams - they're standard business practice for car rental companies worldwide! 😠 In fairness, the most straightforward and honest car rental I've had in recent years was from a local company in...... ......wait for it..... .......Cancun. Wish I could say the same for my experience with Avis in the USA a couple of months back.
Just got back from Cancun on July 10 2023, Definitely saw scammers, definitely saw “corrupt” officers, and seen a group of Hispanic individuals at coco bongo nightclub who sold me some weed and told me they were Cjnc or something. But overall the trip was good af made it back to Houston safe & sound. Didn’t get hustled because 🤷🏾♂️ I do the hustling 💯
I will be going to Cancun next week Saturday anything new I should keep my eyes open for not trying to go on vacation for my first international trip & get scammed.
Basically, use your brain. It's really no different from any other touristy place (everywhere from Rome to NY to Shanghai). Talk to nobody at the airport except for companies you dealt with before leaving home. They're counting on tourists being tired and culture-shocked and all vendors are grabby and shouty. I advise staying in all-inclusives/resorts but I know people who have been there enough that they venture on their own. Many's the time, when you hear about people who have come to harm, it's "at a bar close to the resort" or "coming back to the resort". Just remember, most people are commission based and everything they do is tourist-based and counting on tired, care-free and drunken people. The most powerful word there is 'no' and keep walking. I travel there as a solo woman and have no problems because I use my brain.
It's compulsory by law to buy Mexican rental car insurance. It doesn't matter what your domestic insurance company or credit card tell you, you're NOT covered under Mexican law. It's expensive to buy the full insurance, but it's worth the peace of mind. They then also have no incentive to try and claim damages you didn't cause because it doesn't matter: You bought the full insurance package which covers any damage anyway. Also, be careful when getting gas. When you tell them you want a certain amount in pesos, WATCH THEM PUMP TO THAT AMOUNT. They are counting that you will be distracted and not pay attention that they only put in half the amount requested but they will collect the full amount. Let's say they think you are distracted but then you get out and look and see they have only put in half, they are prepared to lie and say that they thought you asked for the lesser amount. You don't have to be paranoid while traveling, just vigilant.
How to avoid getting scammed - don't bother going at all. Pick a safer destination. Seems like you get scammed one way or another by staying with resort/cruise vendors (overpriced) or risking it by going third party.
Timeshares is big in Cancun now they are called vacation clubs. You hand them 20 dollars then they promise to return it when you show up for the presantation but trust me when i say this ,"it will be the best 20 dollars that you will loose" so dont go.
Not really true in our experience. Plenty of places and situations, when you deal with honest Mexicans. The only bad experience has been police, twice!
It's a very bad idea to rent a car in Mexico. Even if you are fluent in Spanish which I am, you are going to be the victim. Save yourself a lot of grief and money and just take taxis. Get your hotel to hook you up with someone reliable and then use his services every time you want to go somewhere when you don't want to walk. The driver should have a card. Write down all the data, taxi no. included. DO NOT DRIVE IN MEXICO.
While renting a car can be convenient, exercising caution and taking necessary precautions is crucial. This includes ensuring you have adequate insurance, following local traffic laws, and being aware of common scams. If you're uncomfortable driving, using taxis or arranging a personal driver can be safer and more convenient.
After listening to all these advice. I think i will skip cancun and go some place else.too much heartache just to try to get some enjoyable vacation.which won't be enjoyable if you fall for any of these criminals. To me a vacation that requires you go have eyes at the back of you all the while isn't a relaxing vacation somehow. Sounds more like a stressful one
Scammers are in most vacation spots now contrary that you are aware of the local scams after watching this video you should feel safer to visit Cancun as it is an awesome destination to enjoy some great time off on a dream beach
You're not going to get away from it somewhere else. Cancun is just the example here. If you don't keep a straight mind anywhere in the world, you're going to be taken.
I stayed at Riu Tequila in Playa Del Carmen a month ago. I setup shuttle service to and from the airport and resort. Being that it's an hour drive to the airport, it was frustrating when the shuttle didn't show up at the determined 5:10am timeframe. Instead, the front desk clerk called a taxi and charged me $60 USD for the ride to the airport. Upon arrival, I asked for a receipt from the taxi driver, which they said they were unable to give a receipt, so I suspected I was scammed. I contacted the resort site customer service and they kept asking for my banking information, which I was hesitant on giving to a foreign party. Chalk it up to education, but yeah, tough when you're in a foreign place that is unregulated.
We booked transportation prior to arriving in Cancun and had a set rate to and from the airport, they told us where to find them and we waited about 20 mins for them to arrive (don't recall the name of the company). We stayed at a resort and they had doormen that specifically handled taxi service. We literally just stood there and they order our taxi. (Grand Oasis) We got in the taxi and he spoke decent English, we asked if we could continue to use his service on our trip and he gave us his phone number, we called him the rest of the trip and he took us everywhere and dropped us back off and I think we paid with cashapp or something. We also only booked excursions that included transportation and our hotel had a private beach. (Booked excursions on Expedia) We had a full trip
Thank you for sharing your experience and valuable tips. It's great to hear that you had such a seamless experience with transportation in Cancun. Booking transportation prior to arrival, using resort doormen to handle taxi services, and only booking excursions that include transportation are indeed excellent strategies to avoid potential scams. Building a relationship with a reliable taxi driver, as you did, is another great tip. This not only ensures you have trusted transportation throughout your stay, but also helps support local businesses. Your experience serves as a positive example for other travelers heading to Cancun. As with any travel destination, being well-prepared, informed, and vigilant can go a long way in avoiding potential pitfalls. Thank you again for taking the time to share your insights. Safe travels on your future adventures!
I think I have the system beat. I bought a place just outside of the prettiest little tourist town in my own country. The climate and scenery are top notch, and I already knew what to do and what not to do. Plus, I speak the local language perfectly and I know the currency, plus I know when someone is trying to over-charge me. Everything seems to be working out just fine and I no longer have a need to travel because I'm already here.
We were scammed by the Royal Holiday Vacation Club. The contract received is totally different from what was presented. I called my credit card company to dispute the payment and cancelled my credit.
@@TravelDroner i genuinely believe me and my partner wud have fallen for the airport scam 100% im so glad to have this sort of knowledge to not fall for it and kick start my holiday with a terrible experience. Really greatful for the info uve talked about, nice 1 👍👍
Oh, and always-always-always ask how much on the taxi ride BEFORE going. It's best to record the conversation if possible. Then, when paying, pay with smaller bills and in pesos, not dollars. Hold the bill out and make sure the driver acknowledges the denomination verbally prior to handing it to him.
My wife bought a time share paid $4000 upfront even though I told her not to because she had made the same mistake in the past, we e-mailed, called the timeshare company to cancel the membership.
@@alexandervalero8529 did you cancel it? Also for 4000 you won't get a timeshare here that is more like a exit program vacation membership that you get offered as a last offer after 150x saying NO to the timeshare
@@alexandervalero8529 reviewed by who?? if it is the same company forget it they will play you around and waste your time if it was recent before 30 days go to PROFECO website in Mexico and file a claim
As Hungarian we go there in december. Thanks for video but dont get it the restaurant scam. How do i know its Mexican dollar or US dollars on the price list? Its the same symbol isnt it?
Hello, if you see a price list in Dollars, find some other place prices are in pesos here listed they use 2 different price lists, one for tourists that are in pesos but very expensive to regular prices that are to rip off the local tourists thanks for watching
Hello. While I cannot recommend any specific car rental company, To rent a car and drive it into Belize without much problem, there are some steps you need to take. First, you have to get special international permission (which is free). You will need to purchase separate insurance for Belize and might need an international driver's license check with the rental car company you choose. Thank you for watching
I wish i saw this video before i went to cancun. I got scammed by a taxi driver. At the airport told me 500 pesos, once we got there he charged 1500 pesos. Threatned to call the cops if the fee wasnt paid. Ppl i recommend that if u go in taxi record the taxi driver telling you the price. So many thirsty snakes
I woulda been like "well if you're gonna scam me and call the cops, then I might as well get my moneys worth, saying that as you grab a heavy object and positioning yourself to bash his windshield or something" He'll change his mind real quick, cause those cops aren't going to reimburse him for damages and you can just say "oh no those damages were already there, he's trying to scam me out of the fare price and this windshield" I'd fuck his world inside out. He thinks he's got it bad now lol... I'd rather pay 1500 to the cops and spend time in jail than 1500 to a scammer.
Thanks going there in less than a month. I’ve traveled quite a bit so I’m used to the hustlers. I have an advantage because my daughter is going and her oldest child is half Mexican and she speaks good Spanish ( my daughter not granddaughter) I know enough to be dangerous 😅. I’ve been to Mexico a couple times with her and it’s funny how fast the people’s attitude change when they hear a blonde American speaking near fluent Spanish. Cheers
The last time I was in Cancun a bunch of us left the resort in a taxi cab and went to the small town it looked like a movie from 1940 trash all over the place dogs running all over the place..Was still cool to me the guy had a box of Cuban cigars he said he wanted $250 US American dollars... I told them I'm not a big cigar smoker he went down to $50 dollars in 5 seconds I just laughed in his face I thought it was kind of funny as you leave the resort everybody has a scam going on right around the corner doesn't matter what it is.. in town I went to a little restaurant the guy was really nice I had a Philadelphia Eagles hat on he had a couple hats on the counter of different football teams all the girls I was with said just give them the hat.. I said it's a fitted hat I paid like $40 for it they were like so what quit being so cheap we will buy you another one which they never did..Still in all I only gave the guy my hat because he seemed like such a nice guy and nobody was at his restaurant but us..All good...!!
Helpful stuff. Visiting next month, so im going thru videos like this. Gotta say tho you paint a rather grim picture of the place... Hopefully common sense will deflect these scam attempts
That's no excuse for blatantly screwing your only access to money...without tourists, it's just another over built gold plated clip joint. I have no interest in visiting there or any other place else in Mexico.
@@colgatetoothpaste4865 Sounds like they're pretty chained up by the dollar if they're going to such great lengths to get their hands on it. Worse kind of slavery tbh, willing to lie cheat and steal for it.
We went to Cancun last June and immediately after getting off the plane there's 100 people begging for your time or attention or trying to sell you adventures and rides. We scheduled a ride to our hotel and back for $100 and they took us to our hotel and picked us up at 8am sharp back to the airport, thankful we did that. But there are timeshare people EVERYWHERE. We decided to schedule a tour with someone with the promise to swim with dolphins and a party boat ride to Isla Mujeres and we did some annoying 3 hour tour at a hotel we would never afford to stay at and after declining a million offers for a timeshare for "just a redbull a day" we were given tickets for these things at a much cheaper cost than it would have been to just book the dolphins and boat ride full price. It's super sketchy. However if we went back we would not do that timeshare thing over. We took the city bus to the Luxury Mall, to the flea market and everywhere else. The city bus isn't too bad but it's scary because the buses drive fast right after you step on it and the money exchange still makes no sense to me at all. It was really stressful outside of the resort lol.
Was it really worth it the discount on the tour tickets having to sit through the timeshare presentation and getting pressured for 3 hours to buy the timeshare? Glad you had a great time and went out to see the town and yes bus drivers are crazy here lol thanks for watching
@@haleyinthe419 Did you book the ride transfer through your hotel while booking with them? Also did they have your name displayed on a poster when you got there?
I just have one thing to say: why would anyone give their card to an employee? Honest question, since I live in a country where people always bring you the atm machine, or you have to get up to go to the machine, it is unthinkable to give the card, but this is listed as a scam, so I wonder, is that normal?
@@TravelDroner Omg normal practice? That makes no sense, why would anyone give a card to another person? That makes no sense. Some countries really are crazy
@@Hahah5746 Yea in the US it's very normal. You know why? Cause if someone stole your info or made fraudulent purchases the law would pick their bones clean. The US typically values it's law and order quite seriously, at least historically it did. Lately for some things, not so much.
Hello everyone everything and all its true about this video I'm in cancun right now and been victim few times to be honest never coming back when there are hundreds of beautiful places in the world that affordable and respectful to the tourists . entrance fees for club's in busy areas between $50 to $150 us its total joke and there are bunch of clowns and crooks outside awaiting for innocent people who have no idea what they paying for .hope this comment help you folks .cheers

Our Resort .. 5 star resort all inclusive…We we’re exhausted upon arrival… after check in, they sent us to a guy we thought was going to take us to our room,.. no he was talking about this, that and whatever about the hotel. Then he asked what our careers are. Tech engineer, and commercial insurance for Large commercial buildings he saw $$$ in his eyes and all of a sudden made a 90 minute appointment for us for a couple mornings later and we would get a free catamaran ride and snorkeling.. in our sleep deprived state we were okay with it. Then every time we went anywhere there this man was… chasing us down to see how we were doing give us reservations we didn’t ask for… finally we figured out this 90 minute appointment was a membership to their resort and we had to provide them with a credit card! Sorry Bro! No! . When my husband told him, we are not interested but are thankful for his help, he was very upset!!! Like wTF… thousands of dollars spent and they are still starting to sell us sh!!!tttt…
Thank you for the video, they take your money without a gun or knife, everything is expensive, even more than New Jersey where I live, be careful with the timeshare, please don't buy it, if you did, read the contract you may have only five working day to cancel, after that you are in a big trouble, I will never go back to Cancun Mexico
as anywhere you have to be carefull ,, some advice as i have travelled a lot, only use cabs from your hotel, have the hotel call you a cab they pull up in front in full view of the cameras, try to book rentals, jet ski , fishing etc through the resort, do not carry a lot of cash, do not overdress, always travel in a group, never alone when out walking cross the street frequently , look behind , see who is following you , dont be passive, in mexico they have tourist aid, they ride bikes with yellow flags, ,if in trouble or a dispute look for them, local police are so corrupt if they get involved you will end up paying a bribe, , when in any situation there and i have been in a few, be aggressive , they will back down
Sounds like you are ready for your Permanent residence permit here in Mexico Thanks for watching and for the great tips I ish everyone would be so aware
Travel Droner - did you have any issues getting your drone into Mexico? I'm going next weekend and want to take my drone. Though my wife is Mexican, so maybe it'll be easier to put it in her bags?
Going next weekend.. have not been to Cancun since 2004... so currently, do you recommend I just take USD or should I convert some to MX pesos? We are staying at an all inclusive and don't plan to venture out much.. Thank you.. Great video.
Just get an all inclusive holiday and ask hotel arrange a vehicle for your trips from / to airport. That's it. Renting car etc., you guys give opportunity those people to steal from you.
Just skip renting a jet ski all together, riding on salt water isn't nearly as fun as fresh water. That and the jet skis aren't kept in good condition and are slow.
I'm sorry to hear about your experience with scammers and high costs in Cancun. Unfortunately, these issues can occur in many tourist-heavy destinations. It's crucial for future travelers to be cautious and research beforehand to avoid such unexpected situations. Thanks for sharing your experience; it will surely help others be more prepared.
Don’t forget the stolen scooter helmet scam. Your helmet will get stolen replacement is more than scooter rental. Put a sticker on it. Because you will see it hanging up at the rental place later The rental place has stolen it lol.
ATM thing happened to me. Once I came back to US my card kept being used in cancun. My bank suspected fraud fast. They said they have machines in ATMs in Mexico that copy your card info
At restaurants, if you order refills for your soda they're not free. I learned this hard way when I was charged like $10.00 for 1 Coca~Cola with 4 refills.
Typically American. Wants to drink a gallon of soda at every meal and then gets upset when he has to pay for it. This isn’t McDonald’s. There aren’t free refills. It’s not normal to drink 5 sodas for breakfast.
Last time I was in Cancun I met up with a gringo couple that had a book with them called “Mexico on six dollars a day“. It was copyright 1971 they randomly borrowed it from the bookshelf of a hotel they were staying out and they were shocked that prices had changed at all. That’s the problem if you’re not a traveler then you’re a tourist, And you become an easy target, and I don’t understand why anyone is a serious traveler would get off a plane in any foreign tourist location and expect to find cheap prices on rental cars. Do yourself a favor and the local economy, take taxis. A lot less money spent a lot more of an adventure and he’ll help the support from taxi drivers and their families
Why do people still go to these places? When I take a vacation, I go to a place where I can relax not to places where I have to always be vigilant and constantly look over my shoulder. If we take a stand eventually, it is going to hurt their pockets, and they fix this sh!@t in no time.
The insurance included with the credit card reservation is very limited and one absorbs a huge risk in case the car is stolen or if there are damages to third parties. This part is not a scam.
Don't go xD No, but seriously, I'd stay away from Central American countries around there, all of them. Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras, ect. Mexico is much more civilized so I'd say it's alright, but you got a level where it goes from poor and full of scammers to real poor and full of just straight criminals. Then you get to real real real poor and full of lovely people, where they're so poor that their neighbors are probably poor and they have virtually no tourists, so they're use to their way of life. In those countries there isn't a huge desperation for cash in the same way as these poor countries who have had a taste of a better life.
Bus service is excellent and cheap, the only legit Cuban cigarshop is La Casa Habana. Don’t take a taxi only if you must. (i put this here and you might find it funny but it can ruin your vacation, the drinking water is bad in Cancun so take with you plenty of antidiarrheal meds.)

Have been to Cancun many times. The simple best advice is to trust no one and figure things out yourself. Otherwise, you will almost assuredly become a victim.
Pretty much like so in the Hotel zone you are a walking Dollar thanks for watching
Good that you had that done before and yes Walmart is always cheaper for souvenirs and booze
Thanks for the tip. I’m going in may. And was going to rent a car. Anything else I should consider when renting car

Hello You are right they usually try to charge you the credit card transaction fee of 3% but round it up to 5% or more thanks for watching

I’m in Cancun! But I sadly don’t know Spanish…
For sure it helps to speak Spanish
They rented us a car for a week it was like around $400 returned it and had no issues
Thanks for your comment
Will take your advice. TY
Good that you did not fall for it as a rule of thumb
Ignore everyone that approaches you randomly offering anything to buy or go visit a place for free, and Don't accept anything from strangers, no coupons, no free 2x1 tickets, no discount coupons, no free breakfast, and you will be fine keeping those rules thanks for watching
Jack
Hello you got lucky they did not drag you to an ATM to get cash from your card that's how far they go here really embarrassing stay safe

Hello. I am going to Cancun today. Your video was super helpful. I didn't even think about any of the scams.
Have fun down here thanks for watching
How was it ?
I was in Cancun in 97, 06, 2015, 2016 and 2017 and it was fine, then I went back in Nov20 and March 21. NEVER NEVER again. We like to leave the resort and it is non stop scammers and peddlers. You go to a restaurant and people come up to your table non stop wanting to take your photo or do a magic trick and when you go to outdoor bars, the little children come up non stop to sell you trinkets and people non stop want to sell you drugs. The place has gone to hell and has become quite expensive
The pandemic made things worst less tourists to scam
Amen. AVOID.
Coming up to your table while you’re eating….Jesus I would be annoyed
Ok so I am not crazy I went in 2016 & 2017 and one thing I appreciated is that we were not bothered by peddlers that much. I just got back yesterday from Cancun and I was super annoyed it was non stop peddling and very aggressive where they would follow you. Even the waiters at the resort was trying to side hustle. Since their economy rely a lot on tourism the pandemic really did a number on them. I am going to chill on Cancun for a while.
@@jlady6466 Yeah, its ridiculous and non stop as soon as you get off the plane or leave the resort

Pretty much so Thanks for watching
Thanks for stopping by and watching safe travels.
yes im big on researching and staying organized for trips because i know my fam/friends wont do it and we'd be butt fucked somewhere overpaying and taken advantaged
Buy all inclusive 7 nights from the airlines. And stay at the resort. Transfer to the hotel is included in the ticket.
That is your best bet doing it this way
The rental car ones aren't scams - they're standard business practice for car rental companies worldwide! 😠
In fairness, the most straightforward and honest car rental I've had in recent years was from a local company in...... ......wait for it..... .......Cancun. Wish I could say the same for my experience with Avis in the USA a couple of months back.

I will be going to Cancun next week Saturday anything new I should keep my eyes open for not trying to go on vacation for my first international trip & get scammed.
Enjoy your trip you are well prepared for everything now thanks for watching
Oh I am so sorry! It is not even close to any of those places you described.

It’s sad you can’t go anywhere without being scammed in Mexico !!!
👍
Not really true in our experience. Plenty of places and situations, when you deal with honest Mexicans. The only bad experience has been police, twice!
Oh so glad we watched this.
Its sad we wanted to go but after learning that the stress level of being ripped off is so great, well go someplace els.
If you are easily stressed and fearful, then take a cruise instead.
Yep
Yeah be careful most taxi drivers don't even know how to write asking for a receipt is a challenge for them they are not prepared
$60 is not bad price.

(Grand Oasis)
We got in the taxi and he spoke decent English, we asked if we could continue to use his service on our trip and he gave us his phone number, we called him the rest of the trip and he took us everywhere and dropped us back off and I think we paid with cashapp or something.
We also only booked excursions that included transportation and our hotel had a private beach. (Booked excursions on Expedia)

😀 thanks for watching
Helpful stuff. Visiting next month, so im going thru videos like this.
Gotta say tho you paint a rather grim picture of the place...
Hopefully common sense will deflect these scam attempts
This is the reality here thanks for watching
Cancun is an island of prosperity surrounded by a sea of poverty.
That's no excuse for blatantly screwing your only access to money...without tourists, it's just another over built gold plated clip joint. I have no interest in visiting there or any other place else in Mexico.
they are poor in freedom not rich in slavery as you , enjoy paying taxes
@@TravelDroner Yeah I think so! We saved SO much money doing that!
@@haleyinthe419 Did you book the ride transfer through your hotel while booking with them? Also did they have your name displayed on a poster when you got there?
@@dee8203 Nope! We just got off the plane and had to find a ride, we did not think ahead! lol
Thanks for sharing your experience 🙂
Tip: Use your currency converter to figure out the cost of something in your currency v. Peso and then negotiate to pay what YOU are comfortable with.
Exactly thanks for your comment
ahahaha - great video. funny and realistic. loved it!
Glad you liked it 😉
Ummm this is why when you booking don't play cheap. Book with airport transfers from your travel agent.
Exactly set up everything in advance so you don't have to go through the hassle
I just have one thing to say: why would anyone give their card to an employee? Honest question, since I live in a country where people always bring you the atm machine, or you have to get up to go to the machine, it is unthinkable to give the card, but this is listed as a scam, so I wonder, is that normal?
In some countries and establishments, yes, it is normal practice
@@TravelDroner Omg normal practice? That makes no sense, why would anyone give a card to another person? That makes no sense. Some countries really are crazy
In the USA it is very normal. You would seem strange to not be okay with it.

Best advice, do not go to tourist areas.
Don't get a rental car.from the US or other country in your.package deal.. Rent it down there once you get there I learned that few years back
You are correct thanks for your comment

use expedia to book your spot on a shuttle from airport to your hotel, its 9 usd
Thanks for the tip

Great video, very informative.

Police scam are very common.
You are missing the worst of all scams….. Time Shares.
100% agree but I have talked about this topic in other videos of Cancun on my channel check em Out the Do's & Don'ts
While in Mexico, if you see a Souvenir that looks cool remember this:
Theres always a better price
Specifically if you go to a downtown market there you get it at least half price from what is offered in the hotel zone
In a word DO NOT GO to Cancun till THEY clean up their own corruption.
thanks for the hint about the taxi "collectivo" which i remember from acapulco. 25 usd are affordable

Good that you did not go and waiste your precious vacation time thanks for your comment
please name the hotel?
Lol same things happened to us
Thank you...all this could be also good for any city. Be smart 😉 and happy travel
Scammers are everywhere trying to take advantage of the tourist's safe travels.
Thank you for the video, they take your money without a gun or knife, everything is expensive, even more than New Jersey where I live, be careful with the timeshare, please don't buy it, if you did, read the contract you may have only five working day to cancel, after that you are in a big trouble, I will never go back to Cancun Mexico
as anywhere you have to be carefull ,, some advice as i have travelled a lot, only use cabs from your hotel, have the hotel call you a cab they pull up in front in full view of the cameras,
try to book rentals, jet ski , fishing etc through the resort, do not carry a lot of cash, do not overdress, always travel in a group, never alone
when out walking cross the street frequently , look behind , see who is following you , dont be passive, in mexico they have tourist aid, they ride bikes with yellow flags, ,if in trouble or a dispute look for them, local police are so corrupt if they get involved you will end up paying a bribe, , when in any situation there and i have been in a few, be aggressive , they will back down
Sounds like you are ready for your Permanent residence permit here in Mexico Thanks for watching and for the great tips I ish everyone would be so aware
Do NOT rent or drive in Mexico! Been going there for 34 years. Use taxis or the bus.
Travel Droner - did you have any issues getting your drone into Mexico? I'm going next weekend and want to take my drone. Though my wife is Mexican, so maybe it'll be easier to put it in her bags?
Hey I live in Cancun , no issues with bringing your drone fly responsible
@@TravelDroner thanks! Always fly away from people and follow the rules.
Going next weekend.. have not been to Cancun since 2004... so currently, do you recommend I just take USD or should I convert some to MX pesos? We are staying at an all inclusive and don't plan to venture out much.. Thank you.. Great video.
Hey i would take pesos for shopping and some small-dollar bills to tip the staff inside the resort you staying have fun
@@TravelDroner thank you..

Thanks, I'm soldiered up now!!

All true. Went to Cancun and scammers everywhere. The car rental was the worst and $68 dolar taxi drive to my hotel 5 miles away.

Greedy and dishonest demons will reap what they have sown.
At restaurants, if you order refills for your soda they're not free. I learned this hard way when I was charged like $10.00 for 1 Coca~Cola with 4 refills.
Thanks for watching that's a expensive soda
Typically American. Wants to drink a gallon of soda at every meal and then gets upset when he has to pay for it. This isn’t McDonald’s. There aren’t free refills. It’s not normal to drink 5 sodas for breakfast.
Thanks for information

Thanks for the video!
Every thing is scam over there so not going at all
You should now hat you know what to watch out for
The insurance included with the credit card reservation is very limited and one absorbs a huge risk in case the car is stolen or if there are damages to third parties. This part is not a scam.
It depends on your card some premium cards have full cover
@@TravelDroner Good point. Better to call the credit card company beforehand to be in the safe side and not having surprises down the road.

Have any advice traveling to Guatemala in Central America?
Sorry never been there
Don't go xD
No, but seriously, I'd stay away from Central American countries around there, all of them.
"Don't get tricked." I like the title.
Bus service is excellent and cheap, the only legit Cuban cigarshop is La Casa Habana. Don’t take a taxi
only if you must. (i put this here and you might find it funny but it can ruin your vacation, the drinking
water is bad in Cancun so take with you plenty of antidiarrheal meds.)
