That uber guy was such a cool person. Glad you got picked up by him, he seemed like a hard working man, who cares for the people and tourists of cancun. Hopefully you got his number if you need another ride. 🙏🏽
I just came back from Cancun. They tried to scam us. We were headed to catch our flight, but Jetlines, the airline we were traveling with, did not indicate online which terminal we needed to be at. When we arrived at Terminal 2 and checked the displays, we realized we actually needed to be at Terminal 3. To cut a long story short, we were approached by a scammer who offered to give us a 4-minute ride for 800 Pesos, while the airport offered the same ride for free. It was only when the scammer said he could also do it for half the price that I realized it was a scam.
I got scammed by them when the hotel I was going to had a shuttle. I was unfortunately tired cause it was late at night and I hadn’t done my research. I was just ready to hit the hay. To make matters worse, they also charged me for the pickup back to the airport the next morning (it was an overnight layover)
Never take a taxi in Cancun. Especially from the airport. They will rip you off to the point it’s almost unbelievable. Not to mention you can show them the exact location on a map, address and they still can’t find where you need to go. Use Uber and the bus system.
Lived in Mexico for 11 years now. First time in Cancun I took the exact walk you took in the vid, a little further, to the on-ramp to the coast road. Flagged down a collectivo and it was 85 pesos (5 dollars) to Playa Del Carmen.....superb, but a lot of hassle after 14 hours traveling. On my last 6 visits, I head straight to the ADO bus office (they are inside and outside of most terminals) and pay 10 to 15 dollars either to Cancun Centro or Playa, much easier and way way cheaper than taxis. Huge respect for your determination man, I was sweating with you. The trick is always to get out of the airport. Costa Rica (San Jose) is literally 100 yards to the local buses where it is 2 USD, yes TWO Dollars to downtown, Chetumal is about 300 yards to an "informal" taxi rank under the trees. Just follow the stream of locals walking out of the airport (about a third of the price), Guatemala is a little more difficult, but doable.....Cuba (Havana) was free in exchange for "smuggling" a pack of 30 womens bras in my luggage (beats the US trade embargo).....I had the pack scanned in Mexico with the guy beside me and chatting to security and informed it was "clean"....other end, straight to a free taxi....not for the faint-hearted but I had plenty of camera evidence that the pack was not mine, just in case.
The first time I went to Cancun, we set up a pick up with a company which also was kind of expensive I believe $65. The second time, that same guy from the video quoted us $95, I couldn't help but laugh and walked away. He dropped it to $70, I took it but should have kept walking away to get a cheaper price.
I remember Uber drivers driving with fear to leave me at the airport. The taxi people will folllow and harass them and the police will give them problems. Its easier to tell them to leave you about. minute away from arriving so that they dont see you get out of the car
@@neliperez1647 There is a stand in every terminal of the Cancun airport, all you gotta do is to keep an eye out for the ADO sign. Check out this article:tacostravels.com/transportation-cancun-airport-hotel-zone/
great experience, thanks a lot for sharing! taxi drivers really looked like criminals ;-) next time - try to take ADO bus - from Terminal 3 , to Cancun Downtown Centre. About 120 pesos.
I like your style! I’m the same way. Hate getting screwed. There are other cities in Mexico that have the taxi scam going on too, and as you’d imagine, outrageous fares. (Oaxaca comes to mind, and I’ve encountered others also) I’ve avoided Cancun for years because I got sick of the constant scamming, from taxis, to aggressive tour hawkers who follow you down the sidewalk, refusing to take a polite no for an answer. The long lines in customs were also a deterrent (who wants to spend 2 hrs in lines waiting to get through customs?!). A work colleague told me recently that has changed for the better. I spent a couple of hours in line recently at MEX airport. Same thing, lots of international flights arriving at once, only a couple or so of immigration officers working, and lines wrapped around like Disneyland.
@@Tourshi We stayed at the Royal Solaris it's about half way between the Airport and the Hotel Zone a ride was between 7 and 15 dollars depending on the time of day. They were all very professional
Immediately when the colectivo said 250 pesos in thought you should have taken it. It looked like you struggled after that 😅. But it turned out cool that you met a trustworhty driver and got his number so thats nice
Very good video my friend. I go to Mexico often and I use the same rental car guy so I’m not getting scammed. He’s actually in one of my videos on my channels. Good work. Way to think outside the box
Thanks for the info! Do you or anyone else know how I can get to La Quinta from Iberostar Paraíso resort in Playa del Carmen? I’ve stayed in Playa before but I was literally around the corner so we walked. This time I’m staying at a resort and need advice pleaseeee!
I've been to Cancun 3 times. I'd never put myself in unnecessary situation. To save some cash. If I couldn't find someone going to downtown Cancun to split the cab fare. I'd pay the $40 to $45 USD solo to get to my hotel. I'm just now learning about the ADO bus as an option.
Been traveling to Cancun since 2009…here are top 2 tips - You purchase Ado bus tickets online which is slightly cheaper or buy at the airport. The ado bus very clean and comfortable - get to know your Uber driver especially if he is cool. Get his WhatsApp number. Next time you arrive at the airport, give him a shout and arrange for a ride. He’ll meet you at the airport.
I'm mexican. Been in the states for about 20 years. It's amazing how they changed their prices on me as soon a they heard my kids speak English. I Will ask my wife and kids to stay away until I negotiated a price😅😂
Are you serious? Omfg take the ADO bus buds it takes you where your going to the Centro. No need to walk in traffic on the highway looking like a crazy ass in Cancun! Ah ahahha.. 😂 😉Better yet treat yourself and take a damn taxi! 😂
OMG. You're out of your mind. Just got back. Arranged a private air conditioned van for 6 of us for $150 He loaded our luggage and off we were. Dropped us off at our Playa resort. What drives me crazy about these type of vids on how "we're getting scammed in Mexico" because somehow people think cabs, restaurants, street vendors etc in resort areas "owe" them something. If you don't want to pay the price, then don't. But don't say you're getting scammed. Try complaining or bargaining the prices down at Disney or Universal. See how that goes
That’s the thing, the air port taxis in Cancun are charging 3x as much as they should be. If not more. It’s a scam. It’s best to take the ADO whenever possible but a taxi that you may find in non touristy zones will Be good. Just don’t take them in hot spots

You can take an ADO bus at the Cancun Airport to Cancun Centro and it only cost $120 pesos, that's about $7 USD
where or how do u catch this bus?

definitely a good idea, only thing to watch out for is the cops targeting rental cars/tourists to elicit a bribe. had that happen to me
