It currently holds 13% on RT, 3.7./10 on IMDB, and Cinemascore gave it a C+. An industry insider had said that all sequels to the film have been cancelled due to the poor critical and box office reception.
Dakota Johnson is deadpan personified and in a lot of interviews she straight up admitted that this movie is shit and that it's not going to do well. You know you failed when your leading actress is publicly admitting that this movie is terrible
I think that Dakota Johnson is almost absurdly pretty (she really looks EXACTLY like the daughter you’d hope her two beautiful parents would have: she resembles them to a ridiculous degree), and not as bad an actress as people say. If Hollywood realizes that a female character can have a hero’s (heroine’s) journey just like a male one, rather than being “practically perfect in every way” with only a few token setbacks, they might actually produce a good Strong Female Character movie, and Dakota Johnson would probably be as good as anyone in it.

From I have been told, the actual expression is "eating your cake and having it too." It was more in reference to the big fancy cakes people would often have more as a decoration or put on display. You can either eat the cake and it's gone. Or you can keep the cake and display it. You can't do both.
The Pepsi sign kills the villain, so Pepsi is the real hero of the movie. Now, the three teenagers in the movie pre-date Peter Parker. They are spider women, so the gals somehow beat Peter Parker to the Spider Hero Universe. That puts Peter Parker fourth in his own universe before the explosion of other people, such as Miles Morales, as Spider-people. Now, I don't mind the expansion of the universe, but it seems as if the spread of spider powers has become something of an epidemic. I am surprised that everyone hasn't been infected with spider powers. Peter Parker really isn't that important, is he?
Sony has just been releasing garbage for the past decade whether it be media or video games. All their stuff caters to the mainstream bland crowds nowadays whom have never played an actual video game or gotten into fiction/fantasy.
They're trying to cater to a small niche crowd who wants every hero to be antiheros and edgy Mainstream crowds don't immortalize The Joker and treat him like a hero and completely miss the mark Mainstream crowds isn't what Dewayne Johnson was listening to when he tried to make Teth Adam a "Antihero" They barely listen to the mainstream crowd that's why we get things like this and the Secret invasion because the small niche crowd lives their whole lives online and not in reality
If they had asked me to make this movie I would have cast Jamie Lee Curtis as old madam web. Then after auditioning this girl and realizing she has no acting ability picked another to play the young madam web. Instead of her rescuing three future female spiderwomen, have her rescue Peter parker as a child from someone trying to kill him in the past. Easy and simple.
This movie is worse than a turd rolling down the street in the wind. Anytime you make Morbius look “ good “ by comparison, that’s saying something. A black cat movie can’t get made, but this was allowed to hit to the screen ?
'The script needed it to happen...' Hearing a lot of that in this movie. 'This propels Product Placement to a protagonist.' I choked on my coffee at this... One sad thing about movie is that it'll cause other female led movies to be held off or just plain cancelled. I'd heard Dakota Johnson fired her agent after this movie?
There was never any possibility that I would see this movie. Thank you for validating that decision, and enduring so that the innocent need not suffer. The bad guy's spider suit looked cool. Sounds like they had a workable premise: Cassie does not know who she is...she starts developing an ability she does not understand...she wants to help others, but is not sure how...she has to learn about herself and her powers, while also mentoring younger women...they all have to face a life threatening challenge from a superpowered being who went to the dark side...etc... This could have been a worthwhile movie. Such a waste.
Elephant in the room Is this movie like a power fantasy of that fear of "what if that guy approaches me _and_ he's really dangerous!" ? Because it really digs in deep for "lets stop that creep! 😮" metoo movement but with super powers.
I watched Morbius and was very disappointed in it. It was drawn out with a cliché villain a very bland plot and a not very impressive ending. Its ok at best. I never read the comics so not sure how close it is. I can imagine the comic book writers could have done a much better job on the film though. So i cant imagine the same guys that did Morbius could do any better with this one.
Said somewhere before, would have rather had an animated anthology of Madame Web and her investigating the changed fates of supposed Spider-Man/Woman. Sometimes for the worse & better There's a villain, but also in the background Madame Web unintentionally remembering her life as Cassandra, an identity she gave up because it would only "burden" her in her new role. (Not that knowledgeable on her character but she does have multiverse powers right? 90s Spider-Man)
One of the things I didn’t understand about Madame Web was how Sony treated we the audience as being so stupid, example being the Anya Corazon character. I remember in the film Anya’s landlord knocks on her door, looking to talk to Anya’s dad about his late rent, well remember Anya is underage in the film. There was no indication she had a job, according to her she told the Spider girls, that her dad got deported 6 months ago and her mom died when she was five. It’s like another plot hole. Dad got deported six months ago. Who was paying the rent, electricity, water in that apartment, the past 6 months? Made absolutely no sense, that the only adult in the house gets deported 6 months ago, now the landlord looks for his rent 6 months later.
Dakota Johnson fired her team because they agreed in part for her in this film and made her believe it was an MCU film, which she of course later found out was not the case after signing her contract. She was duped into the role by her team and by Sony Pictures.
Best part of this movie was the knock off Spiderman going “its spider time” obviously a call back to morbing time connecting all the Sony spiderverse movies.
I really had hoped Madam Web would be at least passable. The core idea of this film sounded pretty good- a dive into the various Spider-Woman characters as superhero horror- but it sounds like it was fumble at every step of the journey. I think Sony's done with the Spider-Man property now, they can't recover from this.
the "random spliced together" problem you're referencing is attempting to make you feel like the main character. similar to how the movie momento plays backwards (at least for part of the run time), which puts you into the shoes of the main character who doesn't have short term memory. doesn't make the movie suddenly good, but at least explains what they were trying to do. some other youtube channel said it best when it said that this movie felt like the worlds longest teaser trailer for another movie.
Sony is just getting by on the marvel brand. Most of the people who paid to see this movie in theaters probably thought they were going to watch an MCU movie. If people didn’t see the marvel logo in the trailer for this train wreck it would’ve made even less money.
Dakota Johnson thought it was apart of the MCU until she found out she wasnt and was even hashtaging #MCU for the promotion of the movie on twitter lol
To be fair, I don't think it's hard to create universe with Spiderman villain movies absent of Spiderman. They just need to be well planned out, and have good creative ideas. Heck we have two Joker movies with no batman in it. It can be done, just not by Sony. 😭
If I had a choice (which I do) to view this film by either: A. paying ticket price at a theatre or B. visiting an online 5 finger discount movie hub(VPN engaged) I'd choose neither, and just watch the Roger Corman directed Fantastic Four film instead.
The plot is what I think they dropped the ball on. I actually liked the cast, the characters, the dynamics. The idea of a superhero movie where the heroes don’t wear suits was a cool idea but they didn’t do it right. I liked how they have a diverse cast but don’t make a big deal about race and even the girl with the illegal immigrant father blames her dad rather than the system. The film a has a pro-life message which is unusual in Hollywood. But they don’t have a real plot, the decisions don’t make a lot of sense. But the biggest thing they dropped the ball on is the film is set 2 years after 9/11 and the protagonist is a first responder. They could have made a backstory about her being at ground zero, but they never mention it.
Was there even a script when they first started filming? Were Sony execs even watching the dailies? Was Pepsi money required for the extensive reshoots? What a trainwreck?! Just...multiple points of failure here! They should have just wrote it off like WB did to Batgirl.
This review is 100% accurate, I'm sure. But its a movie I didnt wanna watch anyways, so im nodding off during the review. Im so glad I didnt waste money on this.
I love how Ezekiel is able to kill multiple police officers quicker than a cat can catch a mouse but yet has trouble taking four females down the entire movie and never wears a pair of shoes the entire time like what the fuck is the deal with him not wearing shoes? I know shoes are a big thing for the Spider-Man Cinematic Universe he goes in morbius well morbius couldn't tie his shoes and in this one they just said don't put shoes on the bad guy

No webbin' time?😢
How dare they?!
Someone should have talked them out of making this movie
Sony has just been releasing garbage for the past decade whether it be media or video games. All their stuff caters to the mainstream bland crowds nowadays whom have never played an actual video game or gotten into fiction/fantasy.
They're trying to cater to a small niche crowd who wants every hero to be antiheros and edgy
Mainstream crowds don't immortalize The Joker and treat him like a hero and completely miss the mark
Mainstream crowds isn't what Dewayne Johnson was listening to when he tried to make Teth Adam a "Antihero"
They barely listen to the mainstream crowd that's why we get things like this and the Secret invasion because the small niche crowd lives their whole lives online and not in reality
Right off the bat, a critical interview with the movie writer.
Sony Spider-Man Universe? More like Sony Spider-Man character Universe without Spider-Man.
This movie is worse than a turd rolling down the street in the wind. Anytime you make Morbius look “ good “ by comparison, that’s saying something.
A black cat movie can’t get made, but this was allowed to hit to the screen ?
'The script needed it to happen...'
Hearing a lot of that in this movie.
'This propels Product Placement to a protagonist.' I choked on my coffee at this...
One sad thing about movie is that it'll cause other female led movies to be held off or just plain cancelled.
I'd heard Dakota Johnson fired her agent after this movie?
Thanks for this, and sorry you had to go thru do this. 😂😅
The only people who watched this and “liked” this are people who think Live Action is better than Animation
Elephant in the room
Is this movie like a power fantasy of that fear of "what if that guy approaches me _and_ he's really dangerous!" ?
Because it really digs in deep for "lets stop that creep! 😮" metoo movement
but with super powers.
Thank you, I kept hearing how bad this movie is but nobody explained exactly as well as you did
Can't believe we got this dumpster fire and not Batwoman!
Thanks Niyat for your sacrifice, watching this on behalf of all of us..
I love it - right as you cut to the pepsi man clip I got a ad break 😂😂😂
When I heard Ezekiel Simms was in this I was so excited until I heard who was writing it 😢
I watched Morbius and was very disappointed in it. It was drawn out with a cliché villain a very bland plot and a not very impressive ending. Its ok at best. I never read the comics so not sure how close it is. I can imagine the comic book writers could have done a much better job on the film though. So i cant imagine the same guys that did Morbius could do any better with this one.
This could’ve been such a good movie if those directors didn’t touch it 😭
Thanks for the video!! See you later!! Stay safe.😊
Thanks! You too!
Sony made a massive mistake giving the Morbius writers Madame Web both major Marvel failures!
I’d critique this movie, but they’d claim I’m sexist and racist. Due to not having the right to have my own opinion, I wont watch it.
Where are they getting these writers?
They are cheap. That's all that matters.
Yes! Pepsi Man was such a missed opportunity.
Said somewhere before, would have rather had an animated anthology of Madame Web and her investigating the changed fates of supposed Spider-Man/Woman.
Sometimes for the worse & better
There's a villain, but also in the background Madame Web unintentionally remembering her life as Cassandra, an identity she gave up because it would only "burden" her in her new role.
(Not that knowledgeable on her character but she does have multiverse powers right? 90s Spider-Man)
The intro to this video is comedy gold.
“She needs to be told what to do”, lol, oh man that should be the title of this movie.
Madame webb had the power to see the future, but failed to see the failure of this movie.
Which sums up this movie nicely
I’ve missed you bro 😢
Made my day 🎉
We're back to the usual schedule this week! Hope you're well champ :)
@@filmcomicsexplained👍👍👍
Dakota Johnson fired her team because they agreed in part for her in this film and made her believe it was an MCU film, which she of course later found out was not the case after signing her contract. She was duped into the role by her team and by Sony Pictures.
Is it just me or did you post a warhammer 40k video that was an hour and a half long that just straight up vanished.
Yeah its gone, wtf
Now that ive seen the director and writers i fully understand why this failed so epically.
What a fracking mess of movies that Marvel/Disney has become! 🤦
This is Sony, not Marvel/Disney.
It's a real shame. I really wanted it to be good and do well.
Best part of this movie was the knock off Spiderman going “its spider time” obviously a call back to morbing time connecting all the Sony spiderverse movies.
I feel like we shouldn’t blame the actors but the writers!
What’s crazy is this was released while WB canned good movies
I only watched your overview video, and I too want my time and money back...
Hi Niat, hopefully one day you might have the time to cover 2018's Cold Skin!
I'm glad they got this project out of the way so they can finally start working on Morbius 2.
The boys: Aaayyoo get off our table lets us eat out cheesesticks!
To be fair, I don't think it's hard to create universe with Spiderman villain movies absent of Spiderman. They just need to be well planned out, and have good creative ideas. Heck we have two Joker movies with no batman in it. It can be done, just not by Sony. 😭
If I had a choice (which I do) to view this film by either:
A. paying ticket price at a theatre
or
B. visiting an online 5 finger discount movie hub(VPN engaged)
I'd choose neither, and just watch the Roger Corman directed Fantastic Four film instead.
The disgust and hate for this film... Thanks FCE didn't even know this was coming out.
It reminded me of Terminator. Way better than Marvels, Dark World and Dark Phoenix just to name 3
The words road map, safe and effective, and surprise mechanics raise red flags lol.
I wonder who at Sony said "Make a film about the old blind psychic woman who sometimes helps Spider-Man but make her younger and able to see."
The sudden failure of the Marvel hype really puts a smile on my face that always eyerolls at a superhero movie.
Bro said with out responsibility you wont get power WTF
I really think they made the movie just to keep the right to characters.
Nothing in my mind beats Madame Web from the 90s cartoon.
They knew movie was going to fail, the falsely buffed the movie budget and got money refunded by the gov
