On part two of this central Albanian tour, we take arguably the worst train in Europe to Elbasan, an industrial city just to the south of Tirana. The train was disgusting, dirty and full of sketchy characters as it rolled slowly through the Albanian countryside. It's certainly not a trip I'll forget soon!

This trains must be used like a museum, to make crazy journeys
"I'm really not trying to be Judgmental" but I'm being judgmental.
Albania is a poor country just saying
Albania is beautiful country with friendly people
Clearly no one remembers New York Subway Trains in the 80s... All heavly graffited and indows broken.
Those trains are at the very least 30 years old. Our rail system was left in disrepair after the communist dictatorship ended. It took them 30 years but they finally started upgrading the Tirana-Durres line. Hope it's ready soon.
they are older than 30 years ....but for almost 30 years they have not been used for public transport anymore
I look forward to taking that train!
Y-wagens from germany. Built around 1986
Wow, that train was slow. Haha those kids looked so dodgy 😂 nice video!
Gotta come out here bro!
They are gypsies not albanians . no one uses the train system in albania because as you can see its very old and in disrepair. Only the homeless and extremely poor people ride in trains .
@@camillomancini5619 hopefully this will change in 2023
Usually Balkans have the worst railway system in Europe. For example distance between Split to Osijek is around 680km, that is less then distance between Pariz and Berlin which is 887km, however, you need 8 hours between Pariz and Berlin, in Croatia, you need 16 or more hours on route Split-Osijek. Not only it is shorter distance then what is Pariz to Berlin but takes longer. It is not surprising because none of trains go faster then 120km per hour, and they usually move around 60-80km. Recently after 30 years again Split-Osijek line was established and this end in dissater, 16+ hours from Osijek to reach Split and not only that, there were more passangers in train then there should be so pepole were everywhere. Another example from Pula to Zagreb is around 268km, one train needed whole day to reach from Pula to Zagreb (23hours) i dont really know if thats true but i would not be suprised if it was. So yea we in Croatia have one of worse railways in Europe, and nobody do anything to improve it. There are promises, but those are promises only.
Bit patronizing. Seen just bad in New Jersey and Brooklyn
The train systems are being all renovated and remodeled by an Italian company for 108million+ euros and their will be new trains, tracks and stations. It will also be electric and should be completed by 2023!
They should also expand to Saranda, Prizren, and Ohrid.
@@sm3675 once Macedonia and Kosovo, chameria and southern Montenegro Albanians join their lands we will have United States of Albania ☦️🇦🇱✝️

Hello from 2023, nothing seems to be changed
You should have seen what the old "Segunda" trains in Mexico were like before passenger rail was suspended
A lot of those people on there are Romani's or Gypsies. Love the graffiti on it, some of it is really well done. And careful with that Raki man, had a couple crazy nights. I'm pretty sure they call it Raki not Rakia? I never say the "a" because I don't want to get it confused with the Slavic names for the drink. It's basically the same thing.
I know they’re Romani. I didn’t know what would be offensive or not, so I went with homeless. It looked like they were partly living on the train.
@@TalesFromTheRoad that's cool not to be offensive for sure. Im not sure what they prefer to be called. And yes I heard they live on the train & abandoned buildings. Anyway Im so disappointed becaise when I went to Durrës back in October people told me train wasn't running. Some people lie to tourists asking about it because they are embarrassed, is what locals do in Durrës I heard. I think it's cool they keep it running, like the guide said, a preservation of history.
@@Rayza82 no one has been using trains for at least 30 years in Albania you do not know it? perhaps someone for adventure or to transport goods so they are practically unusable for public transport .... btw in June begins the construction of new lines
@@lagjescuni5482 yes I know that. I just wanted to ride it for fun. That's great there will be new lines & the car could be less relied on.
@Conor McGregor I did put both words just because someone might know one from the other, kind of like Indians or Native Americans confuses. But I didn't know that about Romani people, no mean to offend. I've met around 10-15 people, mostly whose descendants moved to UK and Ireland, proud to claim themselves as "Gypsies". So I've never heard what you say, so now I know.
Those are not Soviet trains. This is the ex-Germany stock from 1990
The elbasan line has a speed of 30-60 kmh and the train is not scheduled to be 70 minutes long ride, on the schedule it’s supposed to take 2 hours and 43 minutes most of the time it comes on time, I know that it comes on time because I live near the station in elbasan and it was very unfortunate that you got stuck in the train next to Gypsies. In the summertime the train is better and has a lot more people than in the winter
@@kylim.Yes. From Plazh station in Durres to Elbasan on Friday’s Saturday’s and sundays
That train reminds me of the chicken buses in Guatemala :)
My man, have you read any of Robert Kaplan. He has written a few books about his travels in the Balkans. This train would not surprise Kaplan. I strongly recommend him to you.
So the coaches are ex German, and the locos are ex Czech. The rebuilt line from Durres to Tirana is opening next year.
No, this is definitely not the worst train you would find in Europe. Come visit Bulgaria and you will see similar trains. I have not seen any broken windows but trains are covered in ugly graffiti made by talentless losers and trains are quite dirty as well. Albania might have an excuse for having its railways in this condition but for Bulgaria it does not make sense. The country has been EU member since 2007 and there is lots of money coming from EU. Bulgarian residents should not travel in those shitty trains.
Your movies are awesome....
I didnt even know Albania have trains even if I live in it
Me neither! I thought you could only drive, if it’s still operational I’d love to go on this train with my brother!
where is part 1?
Yes we have the worst train in the world but we hope will be reconstructions soon
I hope it'll be better soon!
@@TalesFromTheRoad recently contacts have been signed to fix the tracks for 100 kmh and to renovate/fix up the existing trains
The EU has agreed to reconstruct the tirana-airport-durres railway. Let’s see what happens 🤷♂️
we have the same trains in the Czech Republic
They are Czech trains, not soviets. Actually they are building an electric line Durres-Tirana-Airport. THis train station is under full reconstruction actually.
Wow. And here I thought the South African rail system was bad.
Don't worry. Our railways are shameful. We will renovate and expand soon.
It is all about the experience bruh! 😅🔥
Where in Europe would you be able to have an "Edgy" unique train ride like that?? Nowhere!!
If you don't Invest what do you expect. They where left from the communist area and nothing was done about it for the last 30 years democracy
Why on Earth would you go on a train ride when nobody uses it? Now it is completely shut down. You won't even get a chance to be on this train anymore.
There are plans on rebuilding the rail system again, but I bet it will take some time....
For the experience!
@@TalesFromTheRoad Ok
It is true only Gypsies use the train. Anyway, the upgrade of Durres-Tirana line starts soon.
True
They're not that bad. Probably you haven't seen Ferrovie Sud Est FSE in Southern Italy, even worse than the trains in Sri Lanka.
The Communists had better trains than the USA had
In communism everything worked better 😖 at least here in Albania.
When the 90s came everything went downhill but hopefully things will improve once again since there are many serious projects happening.
@@chamberv5261 State Railways are much better than privatised ones. All railways in the World require massive state subsidies, so privatisation is so pointless. But its creeping in all over Europe. As soon as all this covid stuff gets better I will do a rail trip in that region and bordering countries it looks great.
In the communism it was better. Now nobody uses trains in Albania 😂
Worse than in India
Almost all balkan railways are same bc govermants cpuldnt afford to invest in rails and they with time just collapsed but i do think that is chaning and with hope of Eu and usa it will be faster build and functional
Enemies of serbia be like:
💚🤍❤️🇷🇸
I mean, carriages like this are common in Hungary (oc minus the broken windows), pretty sturdy German coaches
I think the romas are the only ones using the train.
Yh that’s true
That's why we all want to leave this corrupt country
But you still speak like it’s the best in the world 🤦♂️
Bro if you leave the country then only criminals will stay to govern. If we stay, then we progress.
Everything stopped working when communism ended for a reason. But now it's time to rebuild Albania again and kick out the criminals.
The eastern Europe trains
I live in Kosovo but our trains are way beter
Trains you steal from Serbs :)

There is a plan to renovate the tracks and put new trains, but its going to take a long time and nobody ises trains in albania and only really poor peopel ride it because of its price and the price is one of the main reasons it runs
Just wait until they build the other one. Every buss is better than the homeless train.
Just saying!
Also those homeless pleople are not Albanian's they are Afganistan's
Are romani
This Train is a clasic Wdm3a Indian train
It's czech
