    What a fascinating exposé of the trash and abuse of nature in Albania. Ive lived in this country for four years, and one almost forgets about the trash when you see it every day. Thank you for drawing attention to the problem; the authorities do nothing. I hope videos like yours change that. P s. Its a hermann's tortoise; turtles live mainly in the ocean!

      There's no distinction between turtles and tortoises in American English which I've always found weird as a Brit as they're obviously very different.

      Hey, very nice I almost passed by Lushnje but took the road through Divjakë instead. Nice! Mountain biking in the mountains in Albania must be amazing. Enjoy! 🙌🙏😊

    Thanks for posting this, Albania is somewhere I've always wanted to visit let alone to bikepack across. Gutted to see the problem with rubbish is so endemic, hopefully they sort this out, Romania used to be sinilar but much better now with the arrival of more tourism. Did you still enjoy it there in spite of this?

    I loved cycling Albania but I went more east into the mountains and skipped Tirana. In the flat lands to the west the trash problems is really great. But the mountains of Albania in the east are amazing and worth cycling.

      @UntraveledRoadsOfficial  Рік тому +1

      Hey thanks for your comment. It really depends what you are looking for. The traffic in Albania on bigger roads is sometimes really terrible, some roads a very broken but overall I think especially in the mountains really really beautiful. I enjoyed the part from Durres to the Greek / Albanian border the most. It is for sure an adventure

    Of the 12 months of the year WHY WOULD YOU CHOOSE TO BIKE THROUGH ALBANIA ON ITS RAINNY SEASON!!!

    • @UntraveledRoadsOfficial
      @UntraveledRoadsOfficial  2 роки тому +5

      the video was already recorded in summer, around the end of August and the beginning of September, as far as I know, the rainy season only begins in October. Nevertheless, the rainy season might be even nicer compared to the summer heat 😅 but that's a preference

      plenty money for cars

    • @UntraveledRoadsOfficial
      @UntraveledRoadsOfficial  2 роки тому +6

      Hi, thanks for your comment. Firstly: I am not German :-) - I am not sure about the politics in Albania and wether the EU would not help to fund recycling plants (if they don't I believe they should help). I try on my channel to stay away from politics since I learned that people are not necessarily represented by their governments and that governments not necessarily represent their people. I am just a traveler trying to understand the locals and document my personal experience on my journey (those experiences can be of course sometimes controversial or difficult). But because I was curious about the problematic I found a very well made and informative documentary about this issue: ua-cam.com/video/TqkSH1YLXdg/v-deo.html

    • @CollectorWorth
      @CollectorWorth 2 роки тому

      @@UntraveledRoadsOfficial the issue comes from the fact that the government doesnt run properly. the minister of environment was finally arrested last year for stealing $300 million that was to be used for incinerators that burn plastic to make power(very common in developed countries and is where most of your 'recycling' actually goes). there is more than enough more for garbage collection and the EU has funded lots of garbage dumps and purchasing of dump trucks, but the problem is all the money is stolen. the local mayors will be given a truck for collecting garbage and sell it and take the money. the people know the garbage is disgusting and they want it fixed, but they cant without fixing the government. so there's lots of money for nice cars because you buy it for yourself, for public good though it's pocketed and laundred into western countries.

    • @CollectorWorth
      @CollectorWorth 2 роки тому +2

      @@UntraveledRoadsOfficial also that documentary doesn't explain the problem. Albania banned importing trash once rama came to power and that was like 8 years ago. The problem is just straight up corruption. people's garbage piles up and they have nowhere to take it. a lot of people dont have a working car to take it somewhere to dispose of it even if they did build proper dumps. everyone hates it, but unless people are actually going to do something about it then you can't complain. it's not like albanians like throwing garbage into the river, they're not stupid. they literally have NOWHERE to take it and no system to collect the garbage

      if you come from Western country, you are not used to seeing trash like this. It's horrible. One can or two next to the road, ok possible, but not like this. And then burning trash has been forbidden for decades here.
