  • I’m so glad you stopped by the Cottage today. I’m getting my pantry items bagged up and meal kits ready to cook up! I just got fed up with opening my pantry door and feeling as if all those rows of cans were mocking me for not having a meal plan.

Thank you so much for this video. Lots of videos about using expensive packets and not canned goods. Canned goods might weigh more, but overall, they save more money. Keep a camping stove (propane) in storage in the pantry- if the power goes out, you can still cook.

I just sent this to my son. He can make himself a meal with leftovers. In an emergency he could share most meals with his dog if he ran out of dog food.

I’m so glad I had these bagged shelf stable meal kits because in the last year I had TWO refrigerators stop working on me!! I’ve used those kits! Oh and I just saw those hard shelf stable breadsticks at Aldi! So grab them!

You did a fantastic job with your emergency meals. I have 14 prepped, also I do meals in jars from dehydrated veggies. Thank for your wonderful ideas.

Aww thank you but honestly I take inspiration from so many others! I just thought it was important to get my meal kits put together in case of personal emergencies and to share with others as well.

Have a couple tips.Reuse pill bottles for seasonings. On the cards write on back how to make the meals,in case someone else has to cook it.Have matches with strike strip or tiny box type inside pill bottles (in case of lighting fire outside on pit).

You could measure out your spices and parmesan into small zipper snack bags.

Make a bag with a can opener, spoons and so forth. Keep that with the meal bags and if you have to grab the box, you have what you need at hand.

I keep all those kinds of things in another smaller storage box (like a shoe storage box) and just put it in the bottom of the storage bin
And I do add matches in case I need to use my camping stoves and a pack ( of 4 usually how they are sold) of butane canisters I have in another tub w paper towels and paper plates and bowls and things like that in case of a " bug out situation happens"
I love the ideas you have and will continue to watch and learn from your videos ...this was the 1st one I have seen and now I'm hooked 😂 thank you for sharing your ideas and tips

You should have a hand can opener for emergencies, in case there’s no power.

Due to quantities needed for cooking some items two bottles of water are probably needed for some kits.

I will have to do a part 2 soon because my refrigerator stopped working after filming this and while waiting for a repair man & then for a new refrigerator, I had to make most of this meal kits.

A put together dinner where you dont have tobthink is a great way to make the children over 12 make dinner . They need the practice and you get a break in another room. ( if they have been cooking at least a year they can cook dinner when your late getting home.

Where do you get the recipes? Or do you have to write things down as you call the items out for each meal?

    • @pineridgecottage8035

Thanks for your questions. I try to always link recipes in the description box when I use actual recipes. I did write everything I put in each bag down on index cards so I would know what meal the ingredients were supposed to make. But honestly most if not all of these kits were dump and heat meals. No real recipe needed.

I know…I hate to rush the seasons and yet I still do it! I realized once I posted the video that I said “it’s fall”. I’m a work in progress with being more accurate in my speaking.
