  • I’ve had a few people asking how I make my ambient tape loop things on my ipad, and So I thought I can show you. I’m no expert, no musician, but maybe by watching this you can see how easy it is. More power to the people I say.
    There obviously have been people much more talented than me doing this and I recommend these videos and channels to get the most out of this technique:
    Loopop:
    • Sampler trick: Steve R...
    Playpm:
    • Secret Loop Trick on S...
    Pete sasquax:
    / petesasqwax
    My Album:
    danielolmos.bandcamp.com/albu...
    Xkernal's Bandcamp:
    xkernelmusic.bandcamp.com/
    If you know any other koala black belts please let me know, knowledge is power!
    If you start making music using this technique then please link your stuff below, I’d love to hear it!

    The resampling notes with the keyboard tip is huge for me. I find I always have to tune melodic elements then have to bounce copy and do the next note with lock to semitone enabled. Huge

    Your self effacing style is completely relatable to me and I have immediately subscribed. It’s cool to see these kinds of workflow walkthroughs and yours was entirely informative. Thanks for helping me see what else Koala Sampler could be good for, I had been experimenting with making synths out of samples but have always wanted to try making ambient music and this gave me tons of ideas to get going with experimenting on my own.

    I loved this video, and it's great to see you working through your process. Koala has so much potential for ambient looping. I absolutely love Koala. I'm just at the beginning of my Koala journey, and loving every minute of it. I absolutely love sample based music for ambient, and like you, love Koala, and physical tape as well as emulations. Sorry, whats the other app you use where you add the tap delay? I mean, whats your apps and hardware setting?? Im trying to find out how to use my ipad for sound with mic and headphones, but im still in process, so your little advices would be huge. Thank you!!!

    • @sevenape
      @sevenape  Місяць тому

      No worries, it's an app called AUM. It's a host mixer app that lets you host several instruments (And mic) and effects and mix and record them all. Tap delay is a separate app that I bought, but there are many different tape effect apps, one very good free one is called CHOWtape. Basically AUM uses a protocol called AUV3 and any app that supports this protocol can be loaded into AUM.
      @gavinski did a really good video on AUM here: ua-cam.com/video/lHMFYZy-VP0/v-deo.html
      Having said all that, the latest update to koala now has a built-in mixer in which you can use some built-in effects, it's pretty easy to get a tape sound, I'll do a video very soon about that. :)

    • @sevenape
      @sevenape  9 місяців тому +1

      I would say iPad is recommended if you wanna use lots of other apps alongside. I have an iPad mini. On the other hand phones are small and handy and can go anywhere. With the latest update koala is becoming more and more a complete package. So if you want/need a sp 404 alternative workflow it's all you need, so even a halfway android phone will do you proud.

    • @noodlessoul8356

      @@sevenape I'm selling the 404 SX as never could adapt to the workflow (lack of screen and SD usage I'd say as I was coming from Reason/Ableton). I'd indeed use a couple other iOS apps, so I guess an iPad is the right choice. I'd use a midi minikeyboard though and these new iPads having just an usb-c connection and not having the 3.5mm audio otput could cause some struggle 😅 Anyway, I think the mini 6 could serve but I'm a bit doubtful cos of the jelly scroll effect.. maybe a refurbished Pro 🤔

    • @sevenape
      @sevenape  9 місяців тому +1

      @@noodlessoul8356 a refurbished pro probably would be best, but just to add my 2 cents, I’ve never experienced any jelly scrolling, or never noticed it at least. The lack of headphone out could be an issue though, I rarely use my mpk midi controller, so it’s not a big issue for me as I just use a USB’s adapter for my headphones. I think you can get adapters that can take both headphones and a midi controller so that’s something to think about. I have to say that I have no regrets about going completely iOS only based for my style of music so I can really recommend an iPad over anything else.
