- Koala sampler just got updated with support for AUv3 and that includes AUv3 multi I/O. I’m super exited by this because multi I/O is very useful because it allows us to process our samples and loops with third party effects and processors. Here’s how you get the update and how to setup your own AUv3 Multi I/O session.

Jakob - Its been not a year yet since this update - and I dont know if you have explored this in another video - but I have a question - is there a way to set up Koala in AUM so that not only can you send samples to their own channels - but you can also - record new sounds into Koala directly - in time with pre-existing loops?
My desire is too to create a Koala Production Workstation in AUM - and have a template - and at some point get an ipad - that I ONLY use with Koala - built into a case with a controller, and audio interface - portable production - one small case - fits in a backpack with a mic and cables.
I’ve owned many hardware samplers down the years, Akai, E-mu, Korg, Yamaha, Akai and have recently been learning the Polyend Tracker… but none of ‘em come close to Koala for ease of use. It just gets the sampling job done painlessly. With AUv3 implementation it becomes seriously powerful. It’s crazy to think that what used to cost thousands now costs less than a tenner! Some of these independent developers really are excellent. If this guy crowdfunded a little hardware 8 channel Koala unit I’d back it in a heartbeat. Imagine the fun you could have with a little Koala sampler and one of those soon to be released Retrokits 008’s. As it is we’re spoilt! Great video as always, Jakob. 👍🏽

Gotta say, not a toy.. easily the music app that has proven the most useful and creativity-inspiring for me. The FX package available in the 3rd stage, "Song" I think (whatever is after the sequencer) really does basically turn the whole thing into an SP404-4-UNDER-$10...I know thats a bold statement, but you gotta spend some time with the app.. if you give it 10 minutes I guarantee you'll end up wondering where your hour went.

This is such a game changer 🥵🥵🥵! Always loved Koala but I just couldn’t deal with it not being an AU - it required too much fiddling to sample other apps quickly and efficiently and to use in conjunction with hosts… now this is MARVELOUS! Haven’t stopped playing with it since it landed as an AU.
Amazing app and it has never been better. That’s for sure.
I think a lot of people are having fun with this now. I’ve seen so many threads and questions about this ever since Koala came out.

It might be cool if AUM had “folders” so for example, you could get all your drums set up - and put them in a “folder” to open up the screen real estate for other non-percussion channels

Awesome vid! One thing I love about koala is how you can export an Ableton project of your work. With this method of routing individual tracks - what do you think is the best way of getting the output, including the fx added in AUM, into Ableton?

Thanks for pointing this out! This app has so much to learn and play with I had no idea about. Did you know you can use a bluetooth keyboard with it? I've got a Brydge keyboard for my iPad Mini 4 and it works great with reasonably low latency

I just bought koala sampler. And I only bought cuz I heard good things, but once I opened it up I realized I don’t know what to do. I don’t really know what it’s for. I was hoping it would have factory sounds in place already I guess more research into it will help me. Is Digistix Drummer AUV3 similar and Samplewhiz. And do you need this AUM/audio bus for this or will it still work on cubasis 3 and GarageBand without it

I’ve looked and there really isn’t any similar alternative that runs as stably as Koala. The most stable apps are stuff like FL Studio and Caustic. There are many “MPC”-like apps but they leave a lot to be desired and many of them will not even run properly.
As Koala FX is an AUv3, why not just forget about Bus B and load an FX AUv3 for each channel? That way you can have a different effect for each channel. Thumbs up for Koala and your video!

You could use use a bus to “port” all of the outputs from all channels into one main channel and then add koala FX to that channel. Check this video: ua-cam.com/video/qk4HoyrgZOQ/v-deo.html

@@JakobHaq I can’t even imagine more to it, but if I were to be unrealistic, perhaps being able to assign whether a sample goes to a particular effect or not.
Really excited about this update too but I haven’t even looked at it yet because I’ve been making a video about the Segments Supersonic Mode. Unfortunately, it has taken me beards and beards because of the difficulties I’m having with Lumafusion since I updated. As soon as this vid is out though, I’m going to check out Koala. @@JakobHaq since I left 13.6 and went to iOS 14.7 and then downloaded the luma update it’s glitching and stuttering and crashing all over the place, on simpler projects than I was making before. It’s very frustrating. I wish I’d not updated at all.
Ah, yeah I’ve noticed performance issues on my older Pro iPad just like you say. However it’s running pretty stable on my 2018 iPad Pro.

I had the same problem and it seems they moved this option. It’s now located in the mix tab you see on the right side of the sample layout. Go to the mix option and you should see a button which shows you „main“ there you can select all the outputs and buses.
Is that option for Android, too
Unfortunatley Android does not support this system.
Man those routing channels for. 6:11 are gone now. Anyone know where they went and how to do this now?
Should be right there. Nothings changed in the app and I’m using the latest version of koala sampler. *just checked again and everything seems fine*. 😅 What’s going on on your side? You can’t find the channel setup button in the UI?

Nice video. I prefer putting koala in the fx slot so you can easily feed external sources into it for sampling (put a bus above it, and you can feed any combination of sources into koala sampler). Also, don’t forget you can now multi instance too! ;)

I’ve never really dug too deep into Koala- it’s always struck me as a bit of a toy frankly… However, you love it, Samuel L loves it- maybe I’m missing something?
Maybe you just don’t need this type of MPC like workflow. To me, things are toys or tools based upon what you’re doing with them. It’s really all about intention. Once you take a “toy” and use it in a professional sense then it becomes a tool. Same with tools. You can take a tool and turn it into a toy too.
