I’m a extreme/death metal drummer and I can say that to play this fast, precisely, takes hours and hours and hours and hours of practicing. Countless hours of rudiments and polyrhythms, and getting faster and more efficient. Takes time and a lot of frustration.... But it’s worth every minute and blister. This drummer is Gene Hoglan the Cyborg Octopus! What a machine... Keep going hard, man!!! Loving the content!
To play FF accurately is an achievement in and of itself. Herrera doesn't fuck around..straight ahead speed is one thing..but the dexterity with the feet is insane
You can always spot a power/speed/death/grindcore metal drummer by his truly epic Popeye-forearms - that sheer level of muscle build doesn't lie! Well, there's one caveat: if said person has that amount of build in BOTH arms (as well as calves), they're crazy metal drummers ; if, however, the extreme muscle build is in just ONE arm (doesn't matter which), the only thing epic about them is the next-level amount of jacking off they do.
It's the 1st big return of the band with Burton and Dino. But people still miss Raymond and Christian. I wish they'd bury the hatchet and just find some common ground and give us the grind we miss!
It doesn't get the appropriate love it deserves because of the massive amounts of turmoil the band created with their odd separation from Dino, then again reforming with Dino but ditching Ray & CoW. Purists had a hard time accepting FF could retain its sound without Ray or Christian. What they didn't know is that Dino wrote and recorded a vast majority of the bass guitar, and he played a huge role in what Ray recorded on drums. It was also a large part of why Gene was only with FF for one album, Dino was not thrilled with Hoglan adding drumming elements never used in FF before - and they also couldn't afford to pay the kind of money a drumming legend like such demands.
Hoglan destroys Herrara on drums...but i just can't seem to like any FF better than a herrera lead FF. Gotta factor in the chemistry of the members, adds a lot.
Sepultura - Dead Embryonic Cells. Has one of the greatest breakdown sections. Igor on drums is simply amazing. Sepultura, Fear Factory and Pantera got me out of 80s rock and into more "powerful" music.
Fun Fact, they actually released this song and it was played on the radio for a short time. I have to say that this is the heaviest song that I have ever heard be played on a mainstream radio station.
I don't like this song specifically because it's blatantly about the "war" between Herrera/Christian vs. Burton/Dino thing where Burton basically wrestled the control of the band from everyone else, getting Dino back on HIS terms when the band originally went down because Bruton couldn't deal with Dino. So yeah. Just find it really tiresome to listen him justify the whole thing to us...
