Thank you I’m glad the album played a big significant role in your childhood.
A few fun facts: the band started in 1990 not 1989.
There’s more songs from the Terminator II movie that we used samples from, one of the ones u didn’t mention is “H-K” in the middle and at the end of the song we use “we live to face a new nightmare the war against the machines” and other songs as well .
COW did not play bass on the Demanufacture album. The producer Collin Richardson asked me to play bass cause Christian was so new in the band he didn’t know all the parts and by the way I didn’t change any riffs during the album recording, all the riffs and arrangements are the same from the Demanufacture demo.
Ray ,Burt and I were very well prepared with our parts before going into recording this album, we didn’t want to waste anytime cause time is money. I mean u can hear that we were very well rehearsed we were a band firing on all cylinders. COW was just to new in the band
    Hope this helps
    Thank you

      The man himself has spoken!
Dino, thank you very much for taking the time to respond and throw in some of the history directly from you. I honestly can't believe I forgot about the "H-K" samples, because that's one of my other favorites from that entire album.
I also find it fascinating how much stories get changed over time and lost in translation compared to what the band members actually say. Most of the sources I use for the pop ups are from publications and/or actual interviews, and even then it is wild how different the reported story is compared to what an actual band members SAYS.
But again, thank you, man, and thank you for the years and years of awesome music.

Holy s...Dino replied here. I must say - Fear Factory was my first metal band since 1995 - Zero Signal - from MK - you know that. And its still one of my very very favorite bands. And you concert in my russian city was amazing. I had autograph from you - and all that was just amazing experience. I sung almost all of the lyrics on that night. Best wishes from Siberia! :)

I know FF's got a new singer and I'm definitely gonna check out the new album. I do hope you get Rhys Fulber to produce the new album and take into account a lot of his opinions. I know metal purists get critical when a lot of electronic elements are used but for me that is what has made FF different. I love the mixing and the use of non-metal sounds being brought forth. I'm sure I'm not the only one. Then again I'd say use actual ukeleles, choirs, brass pipes, etc, Feel free to experiment, I'm sure I'm not the only one who would love to hear FF doing so even if in not a live setting.

Fear Factory has been criminally underrated. When it was among the first with a technologically brutal style, but without oversaturation in the sound. Their crystal metal sound and superb lyrics will always be part of my life. Demanufacture is an absolute masterpiece, obsolote is near. Thanx for the video man, keep the good work!!!!

man your story of fear factory is exactly how i discovered them. 1995 watching mortal kombat in theatres and begging my parents to buy me the record. It had a profanity warning on the label so my dad had to listen to the album in the store first. Sure enough the second track by gravity kills and a very clear cuss word "im FUCKING tired of saying goodbye". Was probably the only swear word in the whole album haha but my dad didnt say anything to my mum and the rest is history. My dad just passed away 3 days ago so thankyou for reminding me of that memory.

My first time hearing them was live in Maine for a Halloween concert headlined by Rob Zombie. They were promoting Obsolete and he was promoting Hellbilly Deluxe. Went for Zombie as I never heard of Fear Factory before but when I left that concert I went out the next day and bought all three albums that were out at the time and cranked it. Never heard anything like it before and just loved it.

My fondest memory of the band was a concert in Amsterdam I went to of them in the early 2000s (Christian was the guitarist at that time). My boyfriend (now husband) managed to convince someone of the crew to allow us to talk with Herrera about him potentially doing the soundtrack of a video game we were working on. We hit it off so much, he asked us to come into the tourbus and we spent the whole night talking about music and video games. He gave us his contact info for Herrera Productions. We really do wanted him on board, unfortunately the game got cancelled. :( But we had the times of our lives. Herrera and Hoglan were drummers I adored.

I will also say that I thought there were 2 singers when I heard this, and that they were using a drum machine. At this time (1995), I can't remember any other vocalist doing 2 singing styles and drums that sounds that crisp, fast and precise. In thrash metal, you just had really fast double bass doing like 32nd 64th notes. When I heard this doing triplets and weird patterns, I just assumed it was a drum machine.

Love this band. First song I heard was "H-K (Hunter Killer)" from Demanufacture. It was playing on the backround in a TV add and I just had to know what that was. My high-school band also performed "Replica" live in our first gig.
Saw them live in 2004 in Tuska Festival, Helsinki. We also just randomly found them in a bar later that night. Exhanged few words and I got autograph from Mr. Bell and Mr. Herrera. Memories man...
It's been really rough being their fan, I might add. 2-3 break-ups, line changes etc. And it's very much looking like their last album that we're getting this year.

    This brings back memories!
My start in Metal came with Metallica's Black Album, then Maiden. After that came all those Roadrunner bands in the 90's like Sepultura, Type O Negative, Biohazard, Life Of Agony, but nothing sounded like Fear Factory and both Demanufacture and Obsolete were amazing.
First time I saw them live was on the Obsolete tour in Amsterdam and back then we had no idea about hearing protection or anything like that and the whole concert me and my brother were standing next to a speaker... I came out having a beep in my ear for two days, but my brother couldnt hear sh*t for 3 days! :o So if I do have some form of hearing damage (no problems so far, thank the gods) I can actually pinpoint the day...
Another thing was, back in the day I had an alarmclock with a built-in CD player that you could program. So for a while I woke up every morning, almost having a heart attack, to the beginning of Replica. And you know how that song starts... :p

Loved Fear Factory ever since that album came out when I was at uni. Been lucky enough to see them a few times, at festivals, headlining or in support. Saw the, open for the Black Sabbath reunion tour and then do a headline tour with Geezer Butler's band G//Z/R open for them. Most recently caught them in 2016 at a six hundred capacity venue in Brighton called Concorde 2 doing a warm up show for Bloodstock. That was awesome. Most surreal experience was finding myself stood next to Burton himself at the edge of the crowd at Sonisphere, watching Rammstein together. He was really cool. Great band.

Fear Factory were the first band I got to see by myself (with a couple friends). I'd been to a handful of concerts before, but they were always with my parents, and they always chose the concert and brought me. I saw some great acts (Aerosmith and Elton John to name a couple), but for me to buy tickets to see Fear Factory and for my folks to let me go was a big deal. The show was on the Obsolete tour and I was really, really into them at the time. I was either 15 or 16 and listened to their three albums (at the time) daily. Static-X and Dope opened. I don't listen to bands like Fear Factory much (if at all) anymore, and I have no idea if the bands sounded as amazing as I remember. Regardless, the show is forever etched in my memory as being absolutely amazing. It was so awesome that my parents let me go, and brought me to the venue two hours away. It changed my life.

My first Fear Factory experience was completely accidental: I went to see a multi-act concert on my birthday, back in '95, headlined by Megadeth. There was one other band on the bill that I'd heard of, Flotsam & Jetsam (which I knew mainly as being Jason Newsted's old band), plus a band that would blow up shortly afterward that went by the name of Korn. But the band that blew me away, to the point where I went out the very next day and bought their first cd I could find (Soul of a New Machine), was Fear Factory. "Scapegoat" is one of my favorite metal songs of all time, to this day.
Such a great and influential band within the industry, but one that a lot of metalheads either missed completely or just forgot about. Great to see you bringing them back to your audience!

Pretty sure I first listened to Fear Factory in 1990. It was on a compilation (I *think* it might have been an Earache comp?). The song was “Martyr” and I had NEVER heard anything like it before. Industrial metal was something I had not yet encountered (I was more into Thrash and Prog at the time), but Martyr made me sit up straight and take notice. Bloody hell it was heavy!! Maybe it was Burton’s vocal change-ups, maybe it was Raymond’s precision percussion, maybe it was how Dino attacked the chords, maybe it was the freight-train rumble of Christian’s bass. Hell. It was ALL that, LOL. Anyway I bought “Soul of a New Machine” when it came released but loved only about ½ of it - something was missing, some element. Then “Demanufacture” came out and it was as if the band had reinvented their sound - kinda reminded me of how Metallica’s sound evolved from Kill ‘Em All to Ride the Lightning. A big change in songwriting and recording that was NEXT-LEVEL stuff, that few artists, if any, were doing at the time. My 23-year-old mind was blown and became a solid fan. I know what you mean about Burton’s voice on stage: it can be spotty. But when I saw them on the Obsolete tour in 1998 in San Francisco he and everyone else were fantastic (especially Raymond - the dude must have a V8 in his family tree).
I can remember SO MANY long drives to and from concerts while listening to this album. Ahhh… good days. Thanks for the nostalgia man.
Oh and BTW, the first album I ever bought with my own money was Def Leppard’s “Pyromania” in 1984. My older sister bought “Bark at the Moon” the same day. \m/

"My life, a disarray, and I fade away" This is one of my top 5 albums All Time since I first heard it in 1995, and the delivery of that line can still give me chills.

Oh dude. I actually never connected this dot. I love Fear Factory but I remember getting introduced to them with Obsolete. But I made my mom take me to see Mortal Kombat in theaters twice on opening weekend and then I got the soundtrack. Wasn't really paying attention to music yet so I never put this together. What a nostalgia trip!

My first intro to metal was Disposable Heroes from Metallica in '86 and I've been a metal fan ever since. That sound was just different than anything else I'd ever heard so I can relate to your story with FF. I didn't discover these guys until I heard Descent from the Obsolete album...oddly enough on the radio...back in '99. They quickly became one of my favorite bands and I still would have them in my Top 5 today.

It’s really wild to hear your story of how you got into metal and it being the EXACT same way that I did. I’m a handful of years older than you and I was in middle school when this album/movie and soundtrack released. I had started my journey into rock/alternative music the year before and my first contact with the soundtrack came in the form of the cassette tape. Side A contained all of the industrial rock, techno and trance music which my brother and I constantly played and side B contained all of the metal and a chunk of the original score. So the thing that also pulled me into Fear Factory and specifically Zero Signal is the fact that I was (still am) completely obsessed with T2 as a kid so once I herd that intro it was pretty much game on for me. 🤙🏾

Tank! This was also the first song I heard from them. I rode my bike up to the theatre to see Mortal Kombat when it came out and this song stuck in my brain. Years later, I worked at a record store and happened upon it again. This song reminds me of everything good of my teenage years. Got to see them once live with Children of Bodom and Lamb of God and that show melted me face off. Love everything you do on here, so keep it up!
