This week, Nanna Hauch aka the Expat Hero, joins Derek and Annie to address an important topic - mental health for foreigners living in Denmark. She discusses the unique mental health challenges that the international community in Denmark is faced with. Nanna brings her expertise as a licensed psychotherapist to the What Are You Doing in Denmark community and offers advice on a wide range of issues faced by international families including Derek and Annie.
Nanna describes how her own experiences living abroad and repatriating influenced her desire to help other expats face mental health struggles. This episode dives deep into the issues faced by couples who move abroad from one partner’s career. Derek explains why he often uses the word “untethered” to describe his experience of living abroad. A listener question evokes the challenges that children face when they’re uprooted to new countries and both Annie and Nanna detail the toll it can take on third culture kids and the parents who love them from their own very personal stories.

As a “trailing spouse” that moved to Copenhagen in Nov 2023, much of what was covered in this episode really resonated with me. Thank you!

Must be anticlimactic to be a psychotherapist in the European country that prescribes more psychotropic pharmaceuticals than any other European country. Not sure how an MPF (Master in Professional Finance) and a MSc in Intercultural Management qualify one to be a psychotherapist, especially with no clinical practicum. Distance Learning diploma mill?

why do ignorants like you keep pushing this lie?
In Denmark vitamin D and Vitamin B, are considered 'anti-depresent'. So if you buy a bottle of those you now contributed to the stats. In addition the use of those kind of thing in Denmark have been stable for many years.
furthermore Denmark have never been higher than second place amongst OECD ountries. Nowadays we are around 8th. That's with the sales of vitamin B and D included. . . .
