Great thorough tutorial of how to paint laminate. So many other people don't mention the sanding part which is essential to achieve a smooth finish with minimal imperfections.

Your spot on about the sanding
This tutorial was awesome!! Because of my time crunch I ended up stripping the wood and sanding the sides instead of sanding the entire cabinet. They came out good I think but I want to thank you for giving such a thorough tutorial! MUCH APPRECIATED!!
Straight to the point and thorough, other tutorials on UA-cam could take a few lessons from this video! Thank you
Great video about what type of paints to use as well as the technique I went in the other direction from dark to light, because of my aging dim eyes, the white makes the environment so much easier on the eyes. I am now doing the countertops,
This video was very informative. He didn't miss a beat. I will be ready to do my laminate cupboards now.
Straight and to the point. Not too little, not too much, information. Well done, starting tomorrow.
We can't buy these products in the UK. BUT. Roy Evan's advice is a Masterclass of advice. So I took it. As a result had no cause to 'whinge' because I would get away with slopping a tin of 'One Coat' over my kitchen and expecting a show room finish.
Very helpful. Quick, to the point and no BS
Just make sure the roller you choose is like 5mm nap for the oil based finish and get rid of as much lint from the roller before you start.
The way you went at this reminds me of how I painted my boat hull. In the boat world we call this The Role and Tip method of painting. Often when rolling a glossy paint you will fit air bubbles in the paint. The brush removes the air bubbles. Another problem that can happen is something call orange peel. Orange peel is when the paint surface is not smooth. The brush also stops orange peel.
Thanks for the nice video
Hi! Thanks for the informative tutorial. My kitchen cabinet has a high-gloss surface laminate which i think its acrylic laminate? Im not sure what kind of paint to use since its high gloss / acrylic type, been googling for some tutorials but no one had done it yet i guess 😔😔
The before and afters are really impressive and really inspiring!
I'm doing mine tomorrow as per your instructions, well done Mr.
How did it turn out?
@@msraff123 Stunning job, I should have done it years ago. I was over the white melamine. Great products. I followed exactly how he did it.
When he said remove you droors, his accent was so good I took my pants off
😂😂😂😂
Absolutely class
Love the color change!
This is AMAZING!! Thank you :)
Looks like ill be heading to Bunnings to grab some White Knights Primer and Tile Paint for my cupboards!
How did it turn out?
An amazing makeover. 😊👍
You have a lovely view from your veranda.
The vynl on some of my doors has peeled. Should I peel them off and wrap them in dci fix then paint the whole kitchen cupboards.
for what using that rust guard for and how?
thx so much
can i do this for kitchen doors that have wrap vinyl or must i remove the wrap first
What were the colors used...I loved the dark final color
How does it hold up after a year or 2?
Hi,
Depending on how the area will be used will depend on how long the coating will last. In most cases you can get anywhere up to 5 years use and if you can see the shine start to fade, just clean the surface. Lightly sand to remove the shine and once clean and dry, reapply another coat to freshen the appearance of the product on the vertical surface.
Absolutely a fantastic and perfect video, thank you so much!
Wow thanks for this vid and the tile painting one.....very user friendly I will definitely be giving both a go cheers!!
awesome, ive wanted to paint our kitchen cabinets for a while, wasnt sure it could be done on laminate, especially cos ours are high gloss. going to bunnings now hahaha
How did it turn out?
@@msraff123 never did it hahaha 😝
Your cabinets turned out beautiful thank you for the tips1
Very clear and consise. Thank you so much.
Hi Luke, so glad you found this useful. Happy painting!
Excellent video!
Hi that looks amazing.
is laminate and wrap the same.ive got wrap doors to paint.im in south Africa and thats what we call them
Does it help to sand the laminate first before priming?
Great tutorial, can you spray this product on?
Nice video I'm staying in south Africa can I get this products
Hi. Thank you so much for your feedback and for your interest on our products. Unfortunately, we do not ship outside of Australia.
I hope this is available in the US!
why pay for overpriced brands that is merely laminate paint ?
Best surface on painted cabinets I have seen. Whenever I use a roller like this for paint jobs, apart from on walls, I never get a perfectly smooth finish, it always has a slight orange peel effect and I have to lightly brush through the paint as a final step, why didn't you get that problem?
+Annonymous P i would say, if you looked close enough he would have slight orange peel, i think that's why in the 2nd photo they have the blinds down to minimize the light across the surface.

Angela - the secret is the amount of paint applied.
The thicker the coat, the more you will see an orange peel look finish.
Answer - Apply the thinnest coat possible and roll out. You can also use a dry roller afterwards to clear any excess paint.
I have done hundreds of cabinets and everyone swears they are spray painted.
Use a really short nap roller.
Great informative video , thank you !
is there any brand suggestion for US market. there is no laminate primer/paint on the market here. any suggestion!!!
This was very helpful. Thanks so much for making this video. 👍😊
Will these scratch easily?
Sir, can we use oil paint after the primer on laminated doors ? Pls reply
You put the brush in water before top coat? Isn't that oil or solvent based paint?
I did not use any laminate paint. I just used normal paint primer and then gloss paint. what's the difference?
Some of my doors have delaminated. The laminate has shrunk and i dint think it can be repaired. What do you recommend i do?
Hi,
It appears the laminate is not stable to the underlying surface, this could be a vinyl wrap or the laminate has loosened from the surface. Unfortunately, we do not have a suitable system to rectify this as the surface would have needed to be stable for use with our Renew Tile & Laminate paint system.
Thank you for your reply. I greatly appreciate it.@@WhiteKnightPaints
Lovely kitchen. Does this comes in different color
This is a fantastic tutorial - thank you!
Amazing. Thank you for sharing.
How did you paint the inside of the doors without smudging the other side, or did you wait for one side to dry then do the other side? I used white knight to paint my bathroom tiles, and it is a fantastic product. 10 stars for this product.😊
Did you not see him putting the blue tape on?

Amazing video, thank you so much!
what color paint was used for doors? this is exactly what I'd like to do!!
What if some of the laminate paint has peeled due to exposure to the sun?
What about the down side of the cabinet? How do you paint the side that is resting on the ground?
painters tape or low tack tape
Tip top mate thanks for the tips so useful!

The white looks better - thanks for the tips!
Great video. Thanks!💪
Great video thankyou...
i need to do my cabinets , but they have a strip on top of them. They are strange cabinets. They are beige formica and a brown wood strip on top without any hardware. I need to repaint them because i am moving maybe. I also have formica new counters. I want to paint them to make them look like granite, is there a product that can do that? they advertise one on Ebay that you can use, but I am skeptical. Any advice?
There's a product called Countertop Transformation - it is made by Rustoleum (at least that is what we have in Australia) could vary in different countries. Your cupboards sound exactly like mine. I'm planning on painting the wooden strip in just a plain black gloss and the face of the cupboards in a light silver grey. Fingers crossed it comes up looking nice.
thank you ELYSIA will check it out !
will this work with any laminate, cos the ones i have are really glossy
Liking the black
Brilliant thank you x😊
@ 2:39 a bug ?
Help me please. Are you using microfiber rolls ?
Thank you so much
After using the Laminate paint (which is WATER based), he says to clean your brushes in Rust Guard Solvent. This is for oil based products???
Are these products sold in the US?
thats just the job and same color i need to do on my cabinets, and they´re laminated too... thanks..
btw I love the view...
what color it is ??? nice
I will absolutely be trying this! Thanks so much for the tips!
I need to repaint my bedroom. . The wood surface is a glued layer of plywood 😢 how can I deal with it? ?? I asked someone and he told me if I sand it I would damage it!!
Please let me know
My Aunt had all walls in her lounge room with that panelling. When she was getting other rooms painted they also painted it out. It took an extra coat of primer and three top coats however it is now painted to match the rest of the house and looks great. Has the effect of a beach house. I had the laminate fake wood panelling in my place. I sanded all the walls and then used an adhesion undercoat then two top coats.
Hi how much videos have you made?
Do you know how long this paint job on laminate will last?
I did mine 3 yrs. ago and they still look like I just did them. Good Luck and Have fun doing it.
@@suegroeneveld3702 hi sue did you just paint cabinets or benchtop as well ? Interested to see how long it will lasted ?
Wow! I need to do this, thanks so much!
1:04 what a horrible view to work with (sarcasm) that's stunning!!!!
Wouldn’t leave the paint to dry outside due to flies sticking to the wet paint. Excellent job though. On yer
where is the key?
great explanation!!!
Forgot to paint sides under fan
Fantastic video! Thank you so much. By the way, the paint primer and the laminate paint are 'water' or 'oil' base type?
I believe it's a water based product...The painter did say, clean-up with water ;)
Great info' from a local Aussie paint company...Now we don't have to import from the States, I'll be using this soon and I don't enjoy painting :)
good advice !
thanks for advice
Thank you soooo much!!!!
Can't really fault the method, but I would have thought painting indoors would be better as painting outside is just asking for flies to settle on it and dust to blow onto the wet paint? And it looks breezy too..
Really helpful thanm you
Great job....but why?! Kitchen had a nice clean look before... Now the bench top looks out of place. Maybe paint grey. I loved it before but.
I agree it looked fine before, but I think actually the black and the top combine well. It's nice like this too.
U r good
thanks
Brilliant. Thank you :-)
I tried painting a laminated worktop and all the paint scratched off after painting with my nail really easily?
I only used water based black satin BUT not the laminate paint, and i did sand it down first.
Does anyone know if its the paint that makes the difference in the paint actually staying on? Please help anyone
Did you use primer before you painted? Without that the paint won't grip well. Also need to clean and sand the surface like shown in the video for the primer itself to get a good grip.
SP330Y you have to put primer
You can't use regular paint on laminate. Well you can, but it won't last. And you have to prime.
It was so much nicer in white
Adorable
thank you!!!!
you don't need to use *white knight* stuff - any good brand will do
I liked the white better
thanksss
Great video.. ruined a lovely bright kitchen in my opinion! I have dark cupboards and it’s a nightmare .. shows all the marks.
Actually I prefer the kitchen , white, the black is bit out of place..
Maybe he doesn't realise, but everytime he touches the bare panel with his hands, he is actually contaminating the boards with grease and contaminates from them. Should be wearing surgical gloves. Just saying.
Don't forget to have smoko between coats 🍩
I was a professional coach painter. Quite surprised you never used tack-rags to remove small debris prior to applying the paint...Other than that, an excellent video.
Tack rags leave an oily residue on some surfaces, even if it doesn't feel like it. I'm waterloxing something and learned that the hard way. Use an old clean t shirt and then vaccuum the surface.
That kitchen looked much better in the White you just ruined it?!
+Lurid Charm Personal preference mate, I think it looked far more modern black.
