  • There's no less than 100 knots out there for anglers to choose from, but you can rely on just a couple main fishing knots for most fishing applications. Mark Menendez is a big proponent of having the line doubled up through the line tie of the hook or lure for the additional tensile and shock strength it provides.
He walks us through his two favorite knots, the Palomar and the Double Improved Clinch. Both are easy to tie and the video clearly demonstrates how to tie each correctly.

It's all about the San Diego jam knot. 100% knot that tightens on itself, in other words the harder the fish pulls the tighter the knot becomes. All the west coast anglers use it, learned it over there b4 moving to Florida and trust me it stands up to HEAVY hook sets in the slop.

+kushcrumbleshatter1990 Thanks for the feedback. Totally agree that the San Diego Jam Knot is an all-star. Here's a how-to article we put together on tying it -- you won't need it but maybe it'll be of assistance to someone else who runs across this post: www.scout.com/outdoors/wired2fish/story/1468391-how-to-tie-the-san-diego-jam-knot
And a video on doubling it up for added shock strength: www.scout.com/outdoors/wired2fish/story/1496933-learn-how-to-tie-the-3-tag-fishing-knot

will have to try the double improved clinch. I like the triple tag knot that wraps down instead of up too and goes thru a top loop as well for flouro
