One of the special things about the game is just how memorable all of the steps are. Like everyone who's ever done that quest knows exactly what you're talking about. It's beautiful.
I think OSRS players take for granted how intricate the game is compared to other MMOs. Forget killing 22 boars, and 40 murlocs then spamming dungeons while clicking your maxDPS rotation. I've been playing RuneScape for 20 years and I still need to use the wiki every time I log in 🤣
It's really not intricate compared to "other MMOs", just perhaps to some. But every top rated MMO is intricate, because otherwise the progress is too fast and the replayability too low. It's a cornerstone of the genre.

I've been playing this game for 20 years and I only just learned you can buy the red berries from port sarim. My dumbass ran to varrock on my ironman to get those because that's how I did it back in the day lol. I never realized she said "go buy the berries in the port". Also if you look at the quest guide and click on the quest you want to start before you start it, it will show you the skill requirements.

funny note about goblin diplomacy: a lot of us didn't know you could just find the mails in crates in the village (i'm not sure if they added it later on or we were just dumb kids), we would kill goblins for our mails, imagine going back and forth getting dyes and having to kill more goblins
@@Greenleaf_ good devs do this because they had to inflate playtime by increasing time spent in silly things like this, but when they get to release more content, they normalize the quest playtime
I was thinking the same thing. I remember one of the first times I played years ago I just looked through the guide to see what quests I was close to the requirements for.
It’s so weird seeing someone do the quests in this fashion, where they go around the world and try to start every quest they encounter. Normally in OSRS, people will very intentional with questing, where they pick one, specific quest to tackle at a time for a particular reason - a reward, a pre-requisite to another quest, etc. This feels more like how you’d play a solo RPG like The Witcher or the Elder Scrolls, where there’s a notice board or you just talk to every NPC in the town.
As a dumb kid, I thought the quest marker not only meant new quests but also the general area for other quests. So I ended up starting a bunch of quests trying to complete some other quests. Eventually I went to Gnome Stronghold, ended up starting Grand Tree, got put onto the glider to Karamja, panicked when I was attacked by Jogres, ran around like a headless chicken, ended in central Karamja, attacked by Tribesmen, poisoned, died and lost part of my addy and a bunch of other things. Really wanted to quit right there and then.
I did this in WoW. No matter how long or grindy the quest, even if the quest was grey and gave worthless reward. Because there is a story, a journey, other players and random things along the way. Optimising the fun out of an MMORPG is the saddest thing about becoming a veteran player.
Can’t wait for this series. Mad season will finally get to experience an mmo that has actual content. While OSRS isn’t an mmo in the typical sense. Starting osrs just made me realize how hard blizzard dropped the ball when it comes making a good game. Also be sure to check out world 420 as soon as you manage to hit 1250 total lvl

RuneScape’s world and moment to moment gameplay used to always be packed with socializing. Part of the change is due to people now only spending time in specific skilling areas rather than standing around, but the main source of the change is the Grand Exchange. Players needn’t interact as they used to for trading. People used to stand around to chat and trade all over the cities.
Honestly try a free world. They are very similar socially to how Varrock was back in the day. Sometimes I just jump over to them for the sake of seeing some players in lower lvl areas.
for everyone not familiar with this series, another one exists by someone named alien food. if you'd like a glimpse into this type of adventure as he's been doing it for about a year and has already beat quests like desert treasure and other very hard ones like legends quest. very good series.
They should put up a sign in Lumbridge - "WoW refugees welcome!" Also, i have good news for you on the "social" aspect of OSRS - all the content in OSRS is soloable, even the so-called "raids". That is, if it is not explicitly single-player. And as for Slayer - think of it as repeatable WoW kill quests with a twist. Like having to wear protective goggles, or a gas mask, or a mirror shield etc. Some juicier mobs you can't even damage without some level of slayer skill.
It's going to get real hard without guides but I have faith in you man. Will be an experience to say the least. People really like to see the game from a new player perspective. The attack level thing is reasons why :P 10/10. Hopefully get to see you around in both worlds. Trying fresh too but I'm only 18 after the first grind.

I think it can be a pretty fun way to play if you look at a guide for required items but don read the guide itself. That way you don't get in the Goblin Diplomacy situation lol. Or not having rope etc
@dongurudebro4579 I started playing in 4th/5th grade, so 2004 or 2005, and there were definitely websites out there with guides. A lot less robust than they became over the next few years, but I definitely needed their help for some of the quests back then

I know he don't read the comments, but one of my favourite things you see in some of this game's quests and areas is how all the knights have punny names. Sir Prysin's name should be pronounced like "Surprisin'!" 🎉 All the knights are like that...but spelled weird so it isn't obvious right away. XD
Runescape is very much a single-player MMO, if that makes sense. ESPECIALLY ironman mode. There are people present, you see them, talk to them but you are on your own path with no or little assistance from others.
And that's what made it great. The slow progress you'd make individually to share with your friends at school or to flex off asking for a duel to max hit on someone.
its really not a single-player mmo. its what you make it to be, you could ask people around you for an onion etc. sadly these days osrs has too many worlds and bots to see a real human on the other side

Maybe he didnt realize you gotta pick ironman on tutorial island and he is just doing ironman mode on a main account? This is making me so curious 😂
He said in his previous video that some of the footage is from his first account before rerolling iron and until his iron has surpassed that account we will still see footage from his first account.

I've played both games and find it interesting to see his fascination with quests. It makes sense considering his WoW background but he's completely missing the mark with quests in RS.

I've been doing some OSRS questing last few days, did about 20... even some of the ones classified "Novice", I don't know how you'd figure them out without a guide. The things you need to figure out sometimes are just so random, it'd take you months if not years.
It is frustratingly hilarious watching someone that knows nothing about the game say things like, “why can’t I attack this guy?” This series is awesome

Oh man. How did you find footage of Devious M.U.D.? I've only ever heard about it in legends. Ha. Hearing your jokes and sarcasm is so nostalgic. This game will aggravate you in so many unique ways that you'll be able to tell if someone has played RuneScape just by looking at them by the end of it.
So many teleports in the game, ahh just shows how prior knowledge is power. I wonder if it would be a good idea for the new player guide to suggest them more aggressively to players who havent levelled mage or used a teleport after x amount of playtime
I feel like personal trading was a big part of Runescape and when that died, part of the game's soul died too. Some of my fondest memories or most obvious ones that come to mind when I think of a city like Varrock is trading with other players or even scamming lol. Good times

You couldn't before. They lessened the grind for noobs now because it was kind of too much.

I've been doing some OSRS questing last few days, did about 20... even some of the ones classified "Novice", I don't know how you'd figure them out without a guide. The things you need to figure out sometimes are just so random, it'd take you months if not years.

Slayer tasks are great for training combat and you unlock slayer monsters that have special drops

So many teleports in the game, ahh just shows how prior knowledge is power. I wonder if it would be a good idea for the new player guide to suggest them more aggressively to players who havent levelled mage or used a teleport after x amount of playtime

I feel like personal trading was a big part of Runescape and when that died, part of the game's soul died too. Some of my fondest memories or most obvious ones that come to mind when I think of a city like Varrock is trading with other players or even scamming lol. Good times
