I soak all my fruit including berries and veggies in cold water and white vinegar and then I place them on a towel to dry. After that, I go over everything with paper towels/ or a clean dish towel and make sure they are very dry and I store them in the fridge in glass containers. They last a very long time 😉🍓🍒🍅🥦🥕🥒🍆🍎.
@@angelsweet9611 I think it depends but I'd say up to 2 weeks or even more. Sometimes they've been in the supermarket too long and by the time they make it home they don't last. I always try to buy the "freshest" looking ones. The organic and more "delicate" produce tend to go bad first but I store blueberries in Mason jars and strawberries, raspberries I store in a single layer in glass containers and they last for about 2 weeks. I shop at Costco, the Whole sale market ( Downtown LA) or the organic produce warehouse ( Downtown LA too) so I get a lot of it every time I go. The bell peppers, mini cucumbers and zucchini seem to love the vinegar bath too!. I do the same thing with them but I store them in reusable plastic bags in the fridge. I hope that is helpful 🤗.
sorry to be off topic but does someone know of a way to get back into an instagram account..? I was dumb forgot the password. I appreciate any tips you can give me.
First of all, I looove your hair! Secondly, I swear I say this all the time, but I mean it - you always come out with videos right on time for what I’m going through. These days I’ve been trying to figure out how to keep my greens and vegetables fresh for as long as possible. I have been stocking up, but at the same time I can’t seem to use them fast enough and wind up throwing some away which frustrates me. These tips are super helpful! I can’t wait to apply them from now on. Thank you! :)
Hope you and your family are staying healthy! Use these tips to make sure your fruits and veggies stay fresh for longer, so you can go to the store less often. What other hacks have you used to make your produce last longer?!
SweetPotatoSoul first of all, I love your videos and tips. Your energy is positive and refreshing. Once it that I’ve learned is to sprinkle lemon juice on your produce while you’re cooking to keep it fresh… I’m not sure if you can do that and put it in the fridge also. These are some really awesome tips, and thanks again.
The potato and onion one...I had no idea. I have been keeping my potatoes and onions right next to each other for years. Some of my onions do get mouldy and mushy... But I just peel the first few layers off and it's fine. I will be keeping them farrrrr away from each other now. Thank you
I juice my ginger and freeze it in an icetray. So when i need some i can take just a portion out. I also dry some fruits and make for example applechips or fruit leather. And i also dry root vegetables and with greens like kale i make chips; they are sooo yummy.
Thank you thank you thank you. I’m 2 days sober. It’s tough and going to get tougher. I’m trying to substitute self deprecating with 3square meals. Staying properly nourished. I live alone and solo, always struggled with consuming my produce and fruit before it goes bad. Or falling into a bad state of mind and losing my appetite then everything goes to waste. This was such a great video. I love your smile and your energy and thank you for all these tips and tricks! I’m not as afraid to stock my fridge now. STAY SAFE!
This was a great, timely video. Before the pandemic, I shopped every 3 days for produce, so that the grocery store could pay for the spoilage, not me. But these days, shopping is such a fraught enterprise that I don’t go as often and my produce has been spoiling. This video really addressed the problem in a clear and concise way. Thank you!
So, i really love avocados, and i found out that you can also put them in the freezer to preserve them. Mine go bad after about 3-4 days, so if i have a few avocados i just cut them open and place them in a ziploc bag and then keep them in the freezer until i am ready to use them. I learned this after seeing avocados in the frozen fruit section of the grocery store and i just figured i could just freeze my own.
The blu apple in the crisper drawer and the green bags are the truth!! 💯 All my greens are pre washed and they keep in the bags for weeks (if I dont eat them up) 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽
Thanks for the tips! Keep avocados in the fridge once they're close to ripe! They can easily last 1-2 weeks in the fridge this way. Also you can wrap the stem on a bunch of bananas with plastic wrap to make them last longer
Orange/Lime/Lemon peels -- i peel the rind and store in the freezer -- I add to meals to enhance flavor or put it in my tea -- I also add to my cleaners --
Lemon or orange peel, I throw them in drawer under oven until they dehydrate completely. Whiz up in blender to powder, use as citrus cleaner, as flavor in foods asking for zest, and in my RV Black Tank to deodorize. Don't flush paper in RV tank, clean smell, no clogs🚐😁🌞🌴
I love you and your channel so much. I binge watch all of your videos. I’m planning to go vegan after the pandemic is over, and your channel been helping me prepare. I’m here taking notes of things I need to buy. New subscriber. ❤️
Absolutely love the fresh herbs tip, recipes always call for a small amount of parsley or some other herb and my mom wants me to use dry, but fresh is so much better for you, but I've noticed it can go bad quickly
I always place fresh mint in water in a jar with a bag on top. Will do the same for fresh leaf parsley and cilantro. I also soak berries in a bowl of apple cider vinegar and water and air dry.
Really needed this video thanks for the useful tips I think after eating only fresh vegetables for over 20 years it's going to be really hard for me to get used to the taste of the frozen vegetables but we have to survive. All the safety to you have your family 🙏🐈
Just saw this video and at the best possible time! I bought beets today with the green tops on them. Stuck them in a Debbie Meyer green bag when I got home. Now, I have cut the tops off and stored them separately as you instructed. So glad you put this out! Thank you!
Love this, thank you! I knew some of these but there are some great ideas in here! I usually store celery in aluminum foil but your method seems less wasteful! Some other tips would be on how to use veggie scraps for stock, or freeze overripe fruit for smoothies, etc.
Thank You! I am so learning to cook and eat naturally from you at 48!👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 I’ve already tried the kale Caesar salad! Amazing! ❤️❤️ I’m new to veganism but with you and your tips I will become a pro!
this is exactly what we both needed. Living as a Vegan couple in Los Angeles, food can get expensive. Especially when it's fresh and organic. Thank you for sharing all the tips.
Red peppers -- I chop these and store in the freezer -- LEEKS -- I wash and chop and store in the freezer As I cook meals I add from these frozen veg bags -- they cook fast -- I only buy frozen broccoli. I steam and portion our potatoes if they are getting old -- freeze and use in meals
3 little tips😇: Fresh Radishes 🌱 with their green tops. If the tops are wilted, place in warm water and they will be revived.🌻🌞 Grapes: 🍇 If you want to stock up on grapes, then save some for warmer, sunny days by freezing the grapes and they will be like little sweet grape-sicles.😋 Lastly, if you want a sweet "hard candy" treat, take some Dried Mulberries and/or Awja Dates and Freeze them. Tastes just like hard candy in your mouth.🍬 😳
Nuts -- store in the fridge -- the Sunflower seeds I bought went bad then I read they should be kept in the fridge -- I eat the pistachios more frequently so I keep those in the pantry :)
Place a small cup with some bicarbonate soda in it,in the back of the fridge to absorb excess moisture & any strong food smells, such as left over meals containing garlic etc..
I have those green crisper bags. They work great, highly recommended. Thank you for the tip about not storing onions and potatoes together. That explains my sprouting root veggies problem!
I grow a ton of fruits, veg, herbs, and flowers in my garden. If I have a super harvest, I try to share with others in the neighborhood or trade with gardener friends. I also prep and freeze extra bounty, like peppers, onions, squash, herbs in EVOO, tomato confit, etc. You can look up the best way to prep and freeze online and then enjoy summer throughout the year! I also freeze a ton of fruit if I grow it or get extra bounty at the farmer's market. So great in smoothies, oatmeal, etc.
Ever since I found out about the onion-potato thing I’ve been a stickler about storing them properly and keeping them apart because those are my staples 😅 Also I’ve been storing my ginger in a brown bag in the fridge and they’ve been keeping pretty long, I may try the freezer thing and see if it does just as good though - thanks!!
Thank you. Now i know why my onions go bad so quickly. The last one i buy, i store away from potatoes and they are fresh after weeks. But i thought it is, because i buy it frpm another farmer. Haha now i know the real reason. Herbs i store in a damp cloth in the fridge. They are fresh for a long time. If the cloth is dry, wet it.
Love the tips..... i usually use Seran Wrap to individually or double wrap carrot, cucumber, potato, courgette, tumeric, ginger etc..... this also prolong veggies and fruit for WEEKS!
Needed the tip about the root vegetables and the tops. I was wondering why my beets were going soft a few days after I pulled them from my garden. Thanks!

With the pandemic, I wash everything right away. Then, I soak them in vinegar for about 10 minutes. I never know who's hands have touched them. I have been very successful in extending the life of my organic kale. After washing the separated leaves. I wrap them in a cotton t-towel/dish towel (I purchased mine from IKEA). I store them in a plastic storage bag, Then place them in my refrigerator. I have had them last for two weeks. They are all fresh and crisp just like the day I purchased them. I learned this from another UA-camr, Stacy Flowers.

I assume that's both from the buildup of trapped moisture, and from the force 'bruising' the skin of the fruits. So, I tend to sort my fruit such that the softer, more ripe (especially overripe) should be at the top. And I try to avoid stacking fruit too high in the fruit bowl. In general, it's CRUCIAL to ensure fruits and soft veggies don't get bruised, if we want to keep them fresh longer. Bruises aren't always visible, but can be evident to the touch, so either don't buy bruised produce, or eat those first, and make sure your groceries don't get any unnecessary bruises on their journey to your home, nor when you store them. With citruses, I've had them stay good for up to two weeks, non-refrigerated, if they were kept very dry. The skin would look cracked or wrinkled and dull, but the inside was still fresh as ever. However, that was with non-organic, not sure if organic would behave the same.

You can keep turmeric in the freezer too. Easy to use a bit whenever you need it.

Carrot top greens (if that's what you're asking) make really good pesto!! Also either of the greens make lovely additions to salads :)
Great tips! Always open to learning more. You do a video on how you can Blanche green vegetables like broccoli and asparagus to extend their life.
