  • A review of the 7725. This starter set was released in 1981 as a supplement to to the first wave of sets in the 12V Grey Era (1980-1993) and was discontinued in 1985. I'm very happy to own this set boxed. I hope you enjoy the review! This set will be featured in the next layout, layout 15.

    This is such a beautiful set. We bought this as a new set in the 1980s along with 7740 and 7727 for our kids. We now have it running in pride of place in our Lego city with two additional carriages. Our 12 volt trains run as Powered Up and have Color & Distance Sensors. It's great that you are recreating original 12 volt setups to show how fantastic they are.

      Awesome that you bought some 12V sets new and it's cool that you put in the new Powered Up system! Original 12V is hard to maintain so I think a lot of people have done what you have.

      The 12v motors were not running reliably and operating them was a nightmare! If I had opened up the motors and reconditioned them I’m sure they would work. In the end they were all converted to Powered Up. They are more amazing then ever and do so much more. They integrate fully with the more modern trains and we make extensive use of the Powered Up coding for automation.

      Wow, no less than THREE 12v sets - your kids were extremely fortunate for its day! 👍 I was a kid when the grey era started and was the only of my friends with Lego trains; 7720, 7710 and 162 so none 12v. Those sets were IMMENSELY pricey for kids/families with regular income. Just as in your case my Lego trains are still with me

    I got this train when I was little couse I got my uncle’s childhood collection from the 80s and I played a lot with this set. And I had a crossroad and some baseplates. Love this video.

    Great video Reker 7725 was my childhood set. I remember my dad bringing myself and my sister a present from Woolworths closing down sale in Bradford around 84' my sister got a Sindy House and doll (Britain's equivalent to Barbie!) I also got the lightning kit 7861 a signal 7860 and a controller 7864 but it was the best present I ever got. Normally only got things at Christmas but it was a 'one off' I guess.

    My first 12v electric train was this, which I got as a Christmas present when small. More recently I've built four of the alternative models shown on the box - you can find the video on my channel. I think it should be possible to populate a layout just with various 7725 builds. Also, it's a relatively easy set to build in other colours.

    That was a good deal a specially considering the fact that it came with Scandinavian box and the overall good condition of it. The thing I don’t like about this set is how you loose it’s unique red and yellow lights after installing the light prism. When I will get this set I will be thinking of installing lights to it without changing the front. Perhaps it would be possible if three 2x2 3003 bricks were replaced with 1x2 3004 ones. Light prism on the other hand moved 1 stud back and placed behind these modified 4070 1x1 bricks simulating lights.

      I have a good solution to that problem. Install 7861 one brick/stud behind the original 4 lights

    • @Reker1million
      @Reker1million  6 місяців тому +3

      Yeah I'm still thinking about how to install the lights - the original instructions for 7861 say to install the prism holders right in the front and take out the headlight bricks so I may just do that for the sake of originality.

      @@Reker1million I joined eurobricks forum to try and upload a photo to show how the front looks the same, I originally fitted 7861 lights as per the instructions say but thought the front looked better with the 4 lights. 3 pieces to swap which are the 2x2 red square bricks for 2x1 bricks.

    If you want to install 7861 lights Reker you can still keep the look of the original 7725 with the 4 lights by installing the lightbar one brick back and switching a few bricks it looks much better. Not sure how I could send a photo to you but it looks much nicer. Just means the driver sits slightly further back thats all. 😊

    • @Reker1million
      @Reker1million  6 місяців тому +3

      Yep I know what you mean, might just keep the prisms in front since that's how 7861 instructions say to do it, but I'm still thinking about it.

      @@Reker1million One do not have to be a complete autist and follow the instructions just because "that's how it should be done". One may think outside of the box.

    Interesting video. I have a 7725 but there’s a problem - it has to be pushed to start if I haven’t used it in a while, and it runs jerkily at first, only after a few laps does it run smoothly. I’m looking to sell it, and wonder how to price it with this defect. Or is there an easy fix for this problem?

    • @bricksnostalgia4929
      @bricksnostalgia4929 2 місяці тому +3

      The motor probably has no defect, I think rails and motor contacts are just very dirty. Try to clean contacts and rails with a sheet and alcohol and see if the set runs smoothly from the start. The problem I described is a very common issue with 12v trains, they require a lot of maintenance and that's why, even if 12v trains are the golden era of Lego trains, I switched to the 9v system.
      With regards to the selling price, it depends if you have also box and/ or instructions. Whether the motor is fine or not, for the train only I would set up and auction with 70 euros starting price plus postage; if you have the box in decent conditions, I suggest you set a starting price of 150 euros. Just make sure you point out the issue with the motor if it persists!

      @Reker1million  Місяць тому +2

      Hey, sorry for the late response but @bricksnostalgia4929 answered it perfectly! I have the same issue with my motors after not using them for a while, they become jerky and you have to run them around the layout a few times (with help from pushing) before they begin to run smoothly. It's due to dust buildup on the rails and motor contacts. Your motor is probably fine - if you're going to auction it, you can start it wherever you want, I would expect it to sell for about $150-200 if you don't have the box.
