Thanks for the information. Everything sounds fine on my laptop and TV. Maybe it's just the different devices. I will keep it in mind for my future videos.
Your updated models make the original 60197 train look laughably small in comparison. That's not to say the original is bad, far from it. Indeed I was lucky to get mine when I still could (that was back in January, if memory serves).
The 60197 was definitely not a bad train. I like him very much and even more in my version. But here, too, we had the problem of a missing driver's cab at the other end. ;-)
Agree with you That 8 wide train looks indeed very good. And I did'nt realise that the new train is that much longer then the old one. Also the mods get from me a 👍 up
I think so, too. I will definitely build the new passenger train in 8wide. Just to see if everything works as I imagine. There will probably be a video about it ;-) The new passenger train had to be almost longer after the wagons have a length of 34 studs (the wagons of the 60197 are only 26 studs long). Thank you for your positive comment.
No, you shouldn't be jealous. Just enjoy that there are people who build such things and post them here on UA-cam. I also see a lot of things on UA-cam that I would like to have, but unfortunately I can't or don't want to afford them.
It's nice that there is someone who can empathize with the work and also appreciate it. That was really a lot of work, although I put more work into the first video for the new express passenger train. For this, it has also reached over 120000 views.
Not the biggest fan of this train but it's definitely my favorite compared to the rest of what Lego has to offer. Had it looked like your modification from the start it would easily be my true favorite. Those wider cars, better looking pantograph, and that observation car does wonders for it! And it's crazy to hear that this set is already retired. Though it does make me happier to have gotten this set a while back when I did!
Basically, I liked the color scheme and the shape of this train. What I didn't like were the paltry pantographs, the lack of doors and details and, of course, the much too short carriages. With the longer wagons, the train looks much more "grown-up". But I actually have this problem with all LEGO trains. That's why all of my LEGO trains are at least lengthened and expanded with a little more detail. On the new train (the lime-colored passenger train), for example, I don't like the windscreen on the front car at all. It just doesn't look like the driver's cab of a train. My new version looks much better. Anyway, I'm glad you like my modifications. As a precaution, I bought 2 more sets of this train before it was retired.
Great video! Look forward to more. You have a great talent for this. One note is that I've seen your Santa Fe EMDs in a few videos and it has always bugged me that there's a locomotive on both ends - US long distance trains have never really embraced push pull operation. It would look much more realistic if you put the two locomotives together at the front of the train (one facing forwards the other facing backwards) I know this might cause some problems for motorisation but it would look sweet. I would really like to see you make that Santa Fe set an expanded version with a dome or maybe even one of Santa Fe's Superdomes as well as a cool rounded lounge/observation car for the end.
Thank you for your nice comment. Believe it or not, I know the Santa Fe isn't put together that way. But due to the lack of wagons, I thought it would look better that way. I have already designed 3 more wagons, including an observation car and the special end car you mentioned. Even the required parts are already mostly lying around with me. I just don't have the time. But there will soon be a detailed video.
Thank you for your nice comment. But I'm afraid LEGO doesn't even know who I am. Wait until you see my planned modifications to the new passenger train 😂
Your Santa Fe at the end gave me an idea that might be cool to see. American streamline era passenger locomotives usually did not run with a bidirectional cab locomotive setup, instead having a “B” unit that was essentially a second locomotive without a cab attached directly to the main locomotive to make up for diesel engines not having the same pulling power as the old steam engines. Up until the final death plunge of passenger rail here, it wasn’t uncommon on long distance passenger trains for the end of the train to usually feature a lounge car of some sort at the end. Would be cool to see a video of that at some point.
Hello, I actually know that the configuration of my Santa Fe is not correct. However, since I have only built two wagons and no B-unit so far, I thought it would be better to put the train together like this. If I had two more passenger cars, I probably would have done it differently. I even have the parts in stock by now, but unfortunately I don't have the time. I've already digitally planned an end car (lounge car)... I'm sure I'll make another video of this train when it's completely finished.
I appreciate your detailed breakdown of this set and the possibilities. The express set hasn't been released yet in the U.S. but I like this blue yellow set. There was only one left at my lego store which I got and I have picked up another at the online store. I plan to follow some of your modifications and make this a personalized project. It takes time to edit this and have such a polished video. I appreciate the time you put in and thank you for the inspiration!
Thanks for your comment. It actually takes a lot of effort to make a video like this, but as long as I enjoy it, I will continue to publish videos. I'm actually a big fan of the last passenger train (yellow/blue) as well, that's why I modified it and made it a really long train. I wish you the best of luck with your project and if I can be of any help, please email me.
I think I will do one later the year. Now I want to enjoy the original first and then start with the modifications a little later. The 8wide model is not 100% complete and yes it will be a challenge to make the roof and top deck removable. But I already have an idea. ;-)
@@kexysbrickbuilts I myself have been considering building my own 8 stud wide carriages, since I've already built a few 8 stud wide steam locomotives. But I'm not sure how to build the low bed carriages at that width while they're still strong enough to support loads in the centre.
@@wenkhieyteh1127 I'm pretty sure it can be done. But you definitely need two layers of plates to make it more stable. You can easily create the level difference with the large brackets (Item 6087 - Bracket 5 x 2 x 2 1/3 with 2 Holes). You just take 6 pieces per wagon and then it will hold up, I'm pretty sure.
@@rascallygoose4926 In my first version, I actually wanted to install all windows in the SNOT-technique, as with the Horizon Express. Unfortunately, the train windows are not available in dark blue, neither from LEGO nor from another manufacturer. In the digital version, it just looks great. Maybe these windows will be available at some point, then the train will be completely reworked again.
@@kexysbrickbuilts That would’ve looked amazing if possible, Horizon Express looks so good with that technique, hopefully one day the parts are available in dark blue
I bought two of these with the plan to make it a shuttle rather then a long haul. The new one is nice but not a huge fan of the cars though in person it is probably much better looking. Though the HE is sill nicer, The the best passenger train is still the Metroliner.

Thank you, I'm glad you like it. Soon there will be a video about the new passenger train and my modifications. You will hardly recognize the original...
@@rugglez I think within the next week the missing parts that I still need should be delivered and then the weather just needs to be nice so I can do my outdoor shots. All rendered animations are already finished.
I own the 60197 Passenger train and I too was kinda disappointed when i got it, its still a really cool set and is my only lego train, i do wish it had a second motor carriage, personally you have to buy extension tracks to enjoy this set there are only so many variations you can make with the included tracks. And i think you did a really good job modding it I love the mock up you made. Keep up the good work!
Thanks for your comment. I also really like the 60197, that's why I adapted it to my needs. At least with my modifications it looks like a real bullet train. ;-) Unfortunately, the tracks included in the set don't really get you very far and the LEGO expansion sets are unfortunately very expensive and you get more curves than you need. I bought tracks from alternative manufacturers and now own more than 100 meters of track ;-)
Very interesting! I would like to see the previous Lego train sets if they got the same treatment, especially 60051 (white/red/gray) based on the German ICE 3.
Wow, excellent renderings yet again. As a Studio user myself I appreciate the time you take not just building the models but also making custom stickers as well. Regarding the official set itself, it's a rather mediocre one. I too had to buy 3 (at heavy discount of course) just to make it double ended. Was planning to use the third set to extend it but I think the newer passenger train is better suited for that due to the split base. I don't have space to test them out anyway so atm it's more or less just experiments in Studio for me. I found the 60051 more enjoyable to modify and it looks closer to an ICE than this tram LEGO calls a train.
Thanks for your comment. After I discovered stud.io for myself, I also try to exploit the full potential, including the part designer, to create stickers or printed bricks. You're right, the new passenger train is very suitable for extending the wagons. A video with my usual modifications is already in the making and will probably appear in the next 10 days. I'm also working on a deluxe version of the new passenger train with more details, longer and a bit higher and with custom stickers (or printed parts). I'm currently still waiting for the answer of a company that should print the bricks for me. I totally agree with you about the "tram". That was the reason why I modified my 60197 so extremely. I think he looks really fancy like that.
I like the old one a lot too, but the new one isn't that bad either. I've rebuilt the new train and now it looks really good. I will probably publish a video about it soon.
Thank you so much. I know many people don´t like the train too much because of the molded front but I still think that my modification is one of the best trains ;-)
If Lego ever adds a train that uses one cart on two cars to a series of City trains (not for Creator or Idea kits like 10233), they will be dead to me. Although I am no longer interested in them, because of these "steps" instead of the usual smooth driver's cab, but decided to give them a chance through a beautiful freight locomotive
It seems like you don't like the new express passenger train ;-) I'm actually pretty glad we don't have a smooth cab. The molded parts make it difficult to modify a set, especially if you want to modify a train into 8wide. I agree with you on the freight train locomotive. I also think it's very nice.
@@kexysbrickbuilts I do not want to say that a cabin made of one block is good, or that a cabin made of many blocks is bad. It depends on the method of execution. I really like the set 7938. It also has "steps" at cabine but they are not so obvious. I think that the cabin of the new train looks raw and unfinished. The smoother this part will be the better and more aesthetically pleasing, and it is not necessary to use one monolithic part
@@НесінБорис I understand what you mean. I basically have no problems with both types, unless I want to modify something in 8wide. But I'm glad that we don't have a molded nose part this time. I agree with you that it would be nicer if it was a little smoother, but I also have no idea how to do it better without changing the look too much. But I can tell you that it looks better in real life than in pictures.
🤣🤣 You're probably right.. the train is really, really long..🙃 But I think at least it looks like a real train, but of course it doesn't fit into every LEGO city. For me, however, all the trains actually have to be lengthened because I prefer something a little more realistic. But I'm glad you like it. By the way, I like your stop motion video..I hope there is more to come from you?
@@IESpotter I'm thinking about it. The problem is, the cargo train isn't that easy to modify. You can change a few little things or you can make something completely different out of the set like I did. But I don't know if people would like that.
@@IESpotter I think it's a nice set and you get a lot delivered. But my videos have been known to show me modifying a set and on this set my modifications are very extreme. For example, I converted the loco into a kind of Swiss crocodile, but in the same color scheme as the original set. I'm not sure if people really want to see that.
That wasn't actually the reason why I replaced the normal bogies with Jacobs bogies. But of course you're right, above a certain weight the magnets from LEGO don't hold so well, although you can also connect the magnets with an 1x2 plate or round plate. The disadvantage of the Jacobs bogies is that you have one long connected train and putting it together is always a little annoying.
Trains can never be long enough. ;-) I think it's a good deal and you get a full Powered Up set with it. If you sell the Powered Up components on eBay, your wagons are already paid for.
At 2:15 you teased a new custom bi-level car variant for the upcoming Lego Passenger Train set. Can you possibly make a video on how to make it? I really love it's design.
Hi, thanks for your comment. The model is currently in progress. I designed this wagon for the 8wide variant. I think you can do it in 6wide as well, but I want to try it on the real model first before making a digital tutorial. I'm pretty sure there will be a lot of different videos on this train as I have tons of ideas for this train.
@@kexysbrickbuilts Thank you for replying, also I've always had a soft spot for bi-level passenger cars so seeing one on my second favorite Lego train set is a real treat. My first favorite Lego train set will always be the Super Chief set/sets.
@@AtomicVisionary No problem.. I actually try to answer all comments as long as it is still possible. So the new passenger train is your second favorite LEGO train? Or did I misunderstand? I can understand why you like the Super Chief. He is so typically American and very recognizable. That's why I built my version of the Santa Fe very close to the LEGO version. But I wanted the locomotive and the wagons longer.... as always ;-)
@@AtomicVisionary Interesting...yes, the Emerald Night really is a nice hit too. It's also at the top of my favorites list. I'm also a big fan of bullet trains, though. I love the Horizon Express, but I also lengthened it significantly and equipped it with 2 motors.

KeXy
2.7 meters long? Wow... did you modify it too or just add an infinite number of wagons? ;-) Unfortunately, I'm also afraid that I'll have to buy the new set (60337) three times 🤣

the 8 wide green train looks beautiful. like it was made to be an 8 stud train. love your mods and train designs some of my favorite. i liked the commentary in the video as well. how many sets would you need to build your mod to 60197? because your mod for 60197 looks absolutely amazing.
Thank you, I also think that the new passenger train is made to be modified to 8wide. For the 60197 you definitely need two sets and the extra parts for the observation car, for the doors, the Jacobs bogies and other little things that are not included in the original set. It does not help to buy a third set as some of the needed parts are not included there.
Well... that's an interesting train and I think I rode it in the UK a few years ago. Unfortunately, this train has many curved parts, some of which are difficult to replicate with bricks. Maybe I'll give it a chance. 🙂
Honestly I don’t like the newest train because it only has one head meaning you would have to buy another set to make a full train and I’m not gonna buy two sets just to get a full train so it’s always just ended up being a train with one head and It always just looks unfinished I kind of miss the old Lego trains where they had two heads
I agree with you It would be better to have an end car in the set and then extra wagon sets to complete it. However, I'm pretty sure that you will soon be able to buy the end car individually on eBay. That was exactly the same with the last passenger train (60197).
wow you took an ok looking train and made it really something special. Is there any way to obtain a build sheet and parts list so fans of your build can build this for themselves. I was happy with purchasing two sets and joining them. now that I have seen your build, just having two sets joined together is not going to be good enough, I need your creation. really outstanding work, thanks for sharing.
Thank you for your kind words. In the video description you will find a link to the instructions at rebrickable.com. There you will find a manual (v2.0) for the train for a very good price. A parts list is always at the end of the instructions. Unfortunately there is no .xls file that you can simply upload to Bricklink, as I unfortunately lost the original model due to a hard drive crash. This is also the reason why there are separate instructions for the Jacobs bogies. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
In the future it will be difficult to get hold of this train at all. The set is no longer officially available. I assume that the prices will increase in the future.
how did you get hold of all the extra bricks to build the train bigger. and how did you know which lego bricks to use. You don't have a Lego drawing for the train. how could you build it so big and precise
Actually quite simple. I initially built the original LEGO train digitally using Bricklink's Stud.io software. Then I digitally rebuilt and adjusted the train accordingly. I then exported a parts list from the software and crossed out the parts I already had and ordered the remaining parts from Bricklink. It wasn't cheap fun to be honest, but the end result is worth it in my opinion.
Love the design of the 5 cars, just curious looking at the rebrickable page, do i only need 2 copies of this set to build the 5 car train in the video? Or am i needing to buy additional parts from bricklink cheers.
You will definitely need additional parts. The parts for the observation car are not in the standard set. You also need the parts for the Jacobs bogies. I've been wanting to create a parts list for extra parts needed for a long time, but I just can't get around to it.
Yo, did you build all those trains custom at like, 0:10?!! That’s sick!! Could you do the 1960 JNR (Japanese National Railways) KiHa 81 *Hatsukari* ? It should look like a gopher for the bonnet. It’s a really pretty train I want to build in LEGO!!
A few of them, but some are from building insructions I bought somewhere. Regarding the KiHa 81 Hatsukari: You mean this passenger train from the 1960s? With the long "nose"? In beige (tan)/red? It's a very nice train, but I've never seen it before. I need to see if it can be built with LEGO.

Seeing everyone having extra lego parts to make impressive builds and customizations makes me jealous
No, you shouldn't be jealous. Just enjoy that there are people who build such things and post them here on UA-cam. I also see a lot of things on UA-cam that I would like to have, but unfortunately I can't or don't want to afford them.
As a heavy user of Bricklink Studio, I can appreciate the enormous amount of work that went into this video!
@@kexysbrickbuilts That sounds great I can't wait to see it when you put it all together!

You should put both 8 wide conversations you designed on Rebrickable.
First I have to build them in real to find out if everything works like I want... but there´s a good chance ;-)
Loved hearing your commentary!!
😊😍 thank you!

Freut mich, dass es euch gefällt. Ich finde, diesem Zug wird zum Teil unrecht getan. Er ist zwar tatsächlich in der Originalversion sehr einfach, aber es ist LEGO und man kann soviel daraus machen.
You should do a detailed video of the 8 stud wide version of 60337. I'd like to see how you managed to pull off the double decker carriages!

Very interesting! I would like to see the previous Lego train sets if they got the same treatment, especially 60051 (white/red/gray) based on the German ICE 3.
I think there is a good chance that such a video could come out in the next few weeks as I actually made modifications to this set 2 years ago.
Owen what are you doing here mate?
Amazing work! I love lego trains!!
Thank you... I love them too... ;-)
I think he looks really fancy like that.

bruh if the original was designed like yours I'd buy all of it no matter how many sets I had to buy
Thank you so much. I know many people don´t like the train too much because of the molded front but I still think that my modification is one of the best trains ;-)
Why don't we get trains like these from Lego? Not enough adult fans I guess.
But I can tell you that it looks better in real life than in pictures.
That is really cool…too bad i dont have space to put it not to mention it’ll dwarf my other trains

5:14 Did you prefer Jacobs Bogies after knowing the train magnet by Lego tends to not stick?
That wasn't actually the reason why I replaced the normal bogies with Jacobs bogies. But of course you're right, above a certain weight the magnets from LEGO don't hold so well, although you can also connect the magnets with an 1x2 plate or round plate. The disadvantage of the Jacobs bogies is that you have one long connected train and putting it together is always a little annoying.
I have 2x of 60197 and I'm debating if I should get a third set before it retires to make it longer.

You will definitely need additional parts. The parts for the observation car are not in the standard set. You also need the parts for the Jacobs bogies. I've been wanting to create a parts list for extra parts needed for a long time, but I just can't get around to it.
@@kexysbrickbuilts No worries thanks for letting me know just wasnt sure because on rebrickable it said i had 100% parts from 2 sets
Yes!! en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/KiHa_80_series#/media/File%3AJNR_Kiha80.jpg
It looks like this. Idk if there’s any instructions out on the Internet, but something like this.
The carriages that it pulls also looks like these. www.plazajapan.com/4543736925743/
The interior design of the passenger wagons looks something like this.. upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/7/76/Jnr-Kiha81-3_inside.jpg
@@doctorouroboros This is a fantastic train. Already very old, but it looks really great. I'm going to try to build this train out of LEGO. The wagons and the interior is absolutely no problem but the "nose" of the train worries me a little. I won't be able to get to it in the near future, but as soon as I have some time, I will try. You can remind me of that again.
@@kexysbrickbuilts Nice!! I hope you can figure that part out. I know there’s some 2x1 pieces that kind of look like the little buckteeth. But I hope you can make the carriages at least, because then you can also make the KiHa 82, which is kind of like, a built in driver carriage as well! Also thanks, I’d really love to see this built in LEGO and you’re gonna bring that dream into real life, since I’m only 17, I probably won’t be able to ride the train in real life. It’s unfortunate, but I’d love to be able to drive around a fully functioning LEGO one!! Thanks!!
How did you get the stickers on the train? my bricklink does not have that
Hi, thanks for your comment. These are custom stickers, some of which I designed myself. I put them on the bricks with bricklink's part designer and then exported it to stud.io. You can then find them under custom parts in stud.io and use them as normal.
That's easy. Just press ctrl (strg) + B and the visible floor will disappear.
id rather have steps in the middle for center gravity to upper coach
I'm not sure what exactly you mean. You probably mean stairs in the observation car in the middle and not at the front and back?
@@kexysbrickbuilts if you walked on the train you go left and or rite to go around the steps to the observation deck
@@fourmula4812 yes, but if I don't do it like that, but the stairs are in the middle, then you can't go around it anymore and you can't get to the lower deck.
Wauw, you are really talented with building lego and programming, how old are you?
Thank you for your praise. That makes me happy. Regarding my age: Check my channel info and look for my email address. This might give you an indication of my age 🤣
@@kexysbrickbuilts mate, don't you have a discord server?
@@puertorico3911 A guy from the US recently set up a Discord server for me. However, I haven't had time to deal with the topic yet, because I have so many other things to do at the moment. I will take care of it in the near future and familiarize myself with the matter. There will also be a video when the time comes.
What software do you use for building set diagrams?
I use stud.io from BrickLink.com
Your mods are very cool! Where did you pick up those dark bluish wheels, if I may ask?
Your questions are always welcome. The train wheel holders are the only parts besides the motor bogie ornaments in DBG that are not from LEGO. But since I really wanted to use DBG, I ordered the parts from a German company (www.bluebrixx.com). Of course, they also produce in China, but the goods are usually available in a German warehouse.
@@kexysbrickbuilts Thanks! I actually picked up 60197 because of your mod/moc back at the turn of the year. I may pick some of these up.
Where can I buy this mod. This looks amazing.
Thank you ;-) Just check the video discripton, there´s a link to rebrickable.
LEGO trains are for kids. Adult brick train fans are way better served by companies like BlueBrixx and Jie Star.
Hey, have you bought any kits from jie star ? I am considering getting one from them but i doubt the durability and quality as compared to actual lego. I am skeptical but if you have bought from them how would you compare the quality and durability of the bricks to that of lego? thanks for responding.
Sorry for the late reply. Yes, I have already built Jie Star trains. Do you have a special model in mind?
@@kexysbrickbuilts well, particularly i was looking at the bigboy. but i heard it doesnt have a lego motor for it to run. I dont really know lol, are these functional trains and is the build quality on par with lego?
@@crypticforerunner1389 As far as I know, the Big Boy from Jie Star is only a display model or am I wrong? It's not drivable on standard LEGO tracks if I remember correctly... unless there is another model that I am not aware of. Of course, if that's what you're looking for, the model is probably not that bad. I have a Big Boy from LetBricks, which is a bit bigger and also drivable, but I haven't finished building the locomotive yet. Building it is very challenging.
What I can tell you is that the quality of Jie Star doesn't come close to the quality of LEGO. The quality is okay, but if you're used to LEGO, you'll really notice the difference. Maybe it's better if you look for a model on Rebrickable and then buy the parts from LEGO. But it certainly won't be a cheap pleasure.
@@kexysbrickbuilts well, certainly your response helps me a ton. i might as well check out rebrickable and go on from there. lol thanks for the information !
beautiful train but a question how did you make the pantograph it really excellent
I can't find the parts lego studio
Please excuse the late reply. The parts are basically the same as those used in the LEGO Horizon Express (set 10233). You can find the building instructions for free on the internet.

Leider...
oh wow🥴
I think that means that you like what you see 😂
What software did you use to build the digital lego train?
I'm using Bricklinks Stud.io 🙂
did you use any extra parts beyond 2 sets of this?
Yes, of course I used other parts outside of the sets. For example, the train wheel holder and the motor bogie ornaments are not available in dark bluish grey from LEGO. I had to order these from an alternative manufacturer. For the Observation Car/Dome Car you need some parts outside of the set to create the observation deck. Also, the parts to create the moving doors are not included in the original sets.
I actually got it About two weeks ago
long story short
For this christmas Idk what to get and them I think to myself
wait Lego trains are a thing and I never had one and so I get the 60198 Green cargo train and I though to myself

the passanger one is amazing As well So il get it for my birthday
but then...

and suddently lego Decides to create new trains and retire these in JUNE?!
Ah Hell nah

so I got it like 2 weeks ago However I will opened it on my BD, no cheating There!
these 2 new ones do look great As well but I like the ones we had until now more. But maybe sometime later once I can Ill get the new ones aswell
I never had any of these trains As a kid (Im a teen now essentialy) but they are amazing!
That's really a nice story. My congratulations on a really good purchase. I think you would have been annoyed if the two sets went end of life and you wouldn't have bought them. I really like the two sets, but I'm still looking forward to the two new moves. Have fun with it if you are allowed to open it on your birthday ;-)
@@kexysbrickbuilts thanx I simply wanted to have a cargo train and a passanger train from the same release bcs they look like they really are supposed to be put together

"Alternative manufacturer" ???
the train wheel holders in dark bluish grey
Why is this retiring
The set has been on the market since 2018. Very few LEGO sets have been on the market for so long. Also, there are the new trains and therefore the old ones will slowly disappear. It's a shame about this train.
This is actually kind of sad 😢

I've seen people who wish the airplanes and airports were separate sets that were better. Is this comparable to only selling half of a train?
@@elijaha773 Nah.. that's not the same in my opinion. If they got half an airplane and had to buy the other half, it would be the same. Of course you can have fun with half a train, but in reality the trains just don't look like that. I can understand the statement about the airplane sets though. Although for me an airport with planes is a starter set. You should be able to buy other planes individually. And it should be the same with trains. In the 80's you could buy a lot of individual LEGO locomotives and wagons. And now we get two train sets every 4 years and that's it.That's really sad.
