If drones like this were available to the general public back in 1977, they would've probably been used for the actual Star Wars movies. It's pretty amazing. Great video.
Totally agree, but you have to admit making the models as seamless as possible would have been a pain in the ass back then (the models used for the cockpits were 3D printed)

This is... WAAAY to epic. On one side is realistic, because it's shot in real life physics from first person perspective , so no bullshit maneuvers that just look cool, on the other hand it looks perfect because there's no CGI and first person is really immersive.

Right, there is some, I just saw the making of. But the most important stuff, like the world and the cockpit are real. They even used real sunlight for the plastic cockpit

I saw a guy piloting a custom drone that swooped and dived all over an Enduro motorcycle race, even chasing the racers as through and over the obstacles! It was more entertaining to watch than the race itself!

I was a young child of 7 when teachers recommended to my parents I should be put in an art school cause of my drawing talents. Then I was taken to see Star Wars, and after the ship was about half way through it's travel time at the top of the screen my mind was blown. I lost it completely. All my marbles too. Everthing I knew went out the windows. I put down the pencil and picked up an 8 mm camera. Nothing has been the same since. There's three reasons why they built movie theatres you know. Star Wars, Empire Striked Back and Return of the Jedi! Thanks for this. Love it. - Toronto, Canada.

The VFX are on point, the storytelling, the shots.
And the sound design. We hear the bolts when they streak by the camera and then you might recognize the thrusters as being rocket jump noises from TF2

He did ask, but i don't think they did it on purpose, they looked like normal crashes. Racers crash a lot so it's just a matter of just pushing it until something breaks.

However, what I am interested in is the upcoming TV series: "The Mandalorian". It gives me some Star Wars/Firefly crossover feel (+ bonuspoints; created by Jon Favreau).

I grew up on star wars and played with all the toys. I always imagined myself in the cockpit flying like this. All you need now is a scaled set to fly in. I never imagined the flips and sideslipping, but its fantastic all the same.... Now just match actors, or puppet, in a cockpit with a 360 camera for reflections and white ball for light reference. (See making of Top Gun)

This is how they should film space flight sequences in future movies. It's WAY cheaper than CG and it would look so great. Just inset pilots and blaster bolts in post.
