  • What up player! Thanks for stopping by today. In today's video, we go over a day in the life of a Swing Driver. Swing driver's basically run different routes every day. You have to have be able to run every route that your contractor has. It was a huge learning curve at first, but once I learned it all, being a swing driver wasn't so bad. I found that it's nice to not do the same thing every day. Anyways thanks for keeping me company today. If you have any questions or if there's anything else you'd like to see, please leave it in the comments below! Reading your comments keeps me inspired! :]
As always, if you enjoyed today's video, make sure to like and subscribe to the LunatiKz squad and follow me on this journey! It would really mean the world to me. Til the next time!!

Just finished peak season with UPS as a seasonal driver helper in Idaho 2 weeks ago. It was crazy busy since we had a ton of stops average of around 300-400 stops
a day. Me and the driver kicked some serious butt this season especially as him and I were newbies😎

377 stops is a lot of stress on your legs & ankles, day in & day out. Make sure to buy a good pair of running shoes & add a pair of heel gel inserts. You should also consider ankle & calf support braces. Just try protect your body longterm.

I've been a package handler and QA for most of my 2.5+ years working FedEx Ground. That peak season is no joke. I remember one of our PH managers say, "We're not coming in a midnight" half a dozen times in a single meeting with the sort manager.
We give drivers a hell of a lot of flak, and they give us a hell of a lot of work. Still, the cogs must turn.
Anyway, just thought I'd drop a few "alternate" definitions of what it means to work at FedEx Ground.
    Fragile - Ooops, I hope I didn't break it.
    Tape dispenser - Customer satisfaction.
Hazardous Material - Did they seriously just throw that in the compacter?!
Strapped packages - They snag on everything.
Loose straps - Package Handler Killers.
    Wal-Mart - Damaged package.
Tomato sauce - Wet, stinky, and damaged package.
Duct Tape - Objectively bad for shipping. (Please, use it for wallets, purses, and boat. Don't ship with it.)
Trampoline - Hell delivered in three boxes. (I've actually seen about five trampolines that hadn't broken open in the time I've worked at FedEx Ground.)
    SouthShore - My nemesis.
As a Package Handler, I took pride in what I did. I talked with the drivers and did the best to try to learn their routes. I had one package car where the plan kept messing up. Everything in the car was assigned to a single shelf. Learning the route really helps in situations like that. I've even had times when I saw the ETP on a stop, and just stacked those boxes out because there's no way they're fitting in that car. I've had drivers come up to me and thank me for those.
As QA, there's a love/hate relationship between you and drivers. They run into a problem, and they just don't want it on their car. You get the package, and you just can't find the address, or it's a huge box you don't have the equipment to repair.
Every once in a while, you get the box with two pages of FTrack entries, and you just have to wonder what on earth is going on. I've seen one that came to me completely destroyed. I just assumed the driver was tired of seeing it and just drove over it so he could drop it off at damages. (It was a blender.) It was in bad shape. The Ftrack showed that it had been processed for return to shipper at least three times. (One of which I had done a week earlier. Oops.)
The stuff FedEx drivers get put through is amazing, though. Actually, I've worked as a driver helper and a package handler for a year at UPS. They get better pay and a union, but the crap they have to deal with is also pretty amazing. They enforce the 70lbs+, get help with it rule much more than FedEx does. Unless you're a driver. Here, take this dolly. Good luck!
I've had multiple irons in the fire the whole time I've been working at FedEx. It's about to pay off with a career change. I'm glad to move to what I've been wanting to do for my whole life, but I'll miss FedEx Ground at least a little.
