  • So how much do delivery driver get in the month of December? December is a peak month for drivers due to a lot of holidays that happen during that time (Black Friday, Cyber Monday, Christmas). Today, I'll show you how much I got paid for working 6-7 days a week. I also take about drivers getting paid per day vs hourly. December is the month where Drivers can make the most money.

@@johnnyasmr6761 I organize mine by the last four numbers on the sticker label. Usually they are marked as (example) 123-4567 or the 1234-5678 depending on your route you should either have 3 or 4 digits before the dash. I organize mine by the first digit of the last 4 numbers. So for the first example label I gave you, I would consider that label/package a “4” once you sort all the packages by the first digit after the dash, you can organize them in your van however you want. All your 1’s,2’s,3’s,4’, and so on should all be in their own piles wherever you put them in your van. I hope that made sense!!

I have ZERO desire to be a Delivery Driver. Having said that, there is a TON of "job security" in being one. I can invision a world where 70% - 90% of grocery shopping, Christmas shopping, normal shopping, etc., etc. is done on-line exclusively!! I live in a very small town. I use to see the FedEx Express/Ground guys from time-to-time. Now, I see them daily!! Not only daily, but they're here at least 3/4 of a day. It's INSANE!! Job Security for your industry is A++++

I used to get paid a base amount for my route of 30 dollars drive time getting to and returning from my route. I was paid 1.25 per stop and .25 per package. I was giving an 800 monthly bonus for 98.7 percent on time delivery. So for example, an average Walmart stop would be 1.25 for the stop and average 40 packages so 10.00- an 11.25 dollar stop. Residential, you would make money on the number of stops per hour. I would start at 7:00 Am and be back at the barn by 5:30 unless I had a late pickup or a signature required package I had to get off the truck that day. My checks were 1200-1500 per week. During peak, I had a helper and would make 1700-2000 per week. I would work 14 hour days, but the route was easier because I had the helper running packages to to door. A helper would increase my productivity by 50 percent and was paid on a day basis.

Right now a UPS driver at 4 years of driving is making $39.74 an hour. We get OT ($60/hr) for anything over 8 in a day, or working on Saturdays. We get free medical, dental, prescription and vision, two weeks vacation and 10 personal days. You’re also provided Union protection. We pay $99 a month in union dues. I make more than your highest grossing week in 3 days of work (Avg 10 hour day). And that’s just January -October, not peak season. why would you choose this career making less than half of what the competition makes to do the exact same thing?

UPS pays well but those folks earn every penny of it. Their delivery drivers probably do twice as many stops per day as a FedEx Express driver but only get paid 25% more per hour. I would personally prefer to take my time and chill on my route and max out the OT hours than run like a bat out of hell. And don't forget the motto of UPS managers -- "How can I fire a driver today?" The hatred between UPS management and their workers is palpable. Don't get me wrong-- I like UPS. Their hard work and top pay lifts all wages of delivery drivers in general. Next time you see a UPS box car driver at a truck stop, buy him a sody-pop. He's helping all of us in the transportation industry.

I've worked for different contractors in the last 3 years. I've never taken that offer of being paid per stop. It's a sick rip off. Being a driver for his long is easy to negotiate with your contractor. Even if you're new. There's actually 3 ways to get paid. Hourly, per stop or salary. (Week salary) I get 925 a week. And I do less that 110 stops a day. This peak highest I went was 130 -140. Never work for a contractor who owns nothing but residential routes. Those are the worst to work for. They'll rape you with a whole bunch of stops and will pay you per stop. Always go with someone who owns both Ground and Home Delivery. Trust.

and yes fedex ground is all about which contractor you work for. some pay better than others.
worked 50-55 hours a week, 6 days a week. when i say i "worked" 50-55 hours, about 10 hours a week of that is spent sleeping in my truck waiting to get loaded at the terminal. so if you don't count that, 40-45 hours a week.
