  • How To Handle Your Tarantula and Rehouse the Curly Hair Tarantula into her new enclosure - including scaping the enclosure, use the substrate mix, and fresh plants. A totally new curly hair tarantula setup!
    As a beginner tarantula keeper, you need to learn these techniques to securely handle your tarantulas - stay always calm and don't get nervous. Tarantulas are usually very calm and can be handled and rehoused with ease. Just respect them and bear in mind, that they are really fragile.
    This is the start of a new series called "Beyond Wild Tarantulas" where we set focus on care and husbandry of tarantulas in captivity, unlike our usual content on birdspidersCH with mainly wild tarantulas documented in their native environment. This brings the two worlds together and presents you with advice that hopefully is of use.

    I love your channel so much. I was very afraid of spiders but fascinated but them at the same time. I have lived in New Mexico the past 2 years and fell in love with the A. hentzi tarantulas that live around me. I have even set up trail cams by their burrows to see what they do at night. I love them so much I ended up buying a couple to keep. Not long after that I ordered more and now I have 13 Ts in my collection. Anywho, thanks for your passion for these spiders and sharing your research with us!

    Hey Martin, really nice new type of content!
    Just two question: you are using topsoil from Landi: which one is it? I was always afraid to use some cause they all have some nutrients added and I was afraid it could hurt my T…(I use peat from Landi for almost all my enclosure but I would like an other option due to the ecological impact of peat industry).
    And second question: where do you buy clay powder in Switzerland? Do you find it at Bauhaus or Coop?

    Great video but I wish I watched this a few hours ago before I removed some webbing on the side of one of my enclosures. It looked dirty and made it hard to see inside , but I see now why I can leave it alone. Beautiful tarantula I have 2 T.albipilosum, one adult female and one juvenile I think they are just gorgeous.

    Nice. The soil in my garden is made up of clay, so when i plant bushes, rhubarb or whatever, i save the soil i dig up and use as substrate in terrarium. I have used claypowder aswell. I bought it from a company that sold clayproduct for drejing. It is great, the best part is that it gets sticky when muxed in moist substrate and majes the substrate "hard" and perfect for tarantulas to dig in! Besides it looks really good and i tend to use lots of clay for my terrariums. For baboons and fossorials i iften use almost pure claysoil

      it looks like a slope, has more soil in the back to dig for the spider and in the front more room for plants. I just like the style of it.

      no locality data - bred for generations in the european hobby :-) pretty sure originating from a legal nicaraguan or honduran export.

    My tliltocatl is always in hiding, but rn she's only a juvenile so she's still definitely skittish, but when I rehouse her she's always calm and crawls right out onto my hand, I'm still thinking of what I should name her, if you have any name recommendations I'll take them

    I’ve had my curly hair for 3 weeks now, (my first tarantula, so forgive me if I’m making any mistakes) and decided I want to give her a better hide in her tank, so I go to test her temperament to see if I can get her into a catch cup so I can move some things around, but everytime I do she is very aggressive, so I offer her a cricket and she takes it therefore I assume she’s just hungry, I’ve now been trying this for about a week, but everytime I stroke her with the brush she still turns around and attacks it, so she’s now had about 7 crickets in the span of a week (because I assume her aggressiveness is due to being hungry) is this too many? Am I over feeding her? She’s a juvenile still, and hasn’t rejected any of the crickets so far, so I can only assume she’s not full up yet, do I just keep feeding til she’s full or should I stop even if she’s still hungry? Someone help please, I want to so bad make sure I’m doing the right thing for her! I’d never want to do anything to endanger her

    • @giselleluna1100
      @giselleluna1100 3 роки тому +1

      Unfortunately you’re over feeding her. No big deal for now but if you keep doing this it will cause problems for her in the future. She could be easily prone to falling and bursting her abdomen if she’s too plump. If she’s a juvenile, just feed her one large cricket, once a week so every Tuesday for example. I keep notes of the date I feed cause I have multiple tarantulas but I strongly recommend you do this, to see how long to wait again and be able to track her eating behavior. Just like a schedule. You learn as you watch her abdomen get fat or skinny. One large cricket once a week will keep her at a decent plumpness, then when you feel she’s a little skinny, treat her with a super worm but only occasionally cause they have high fat content. You can tell she’s skinny by comparing her head to her butt. If her butt is way bigger than her head, she’s obviously fat lol but even if she’s fat you’d still wanna feed maybe every 14 days. Depending on how big the meal is, you wait longer in between feedings, for example if you feed a dubia roach or two super worms, you can wait 2, maybe even 3 weeks till you feed again cause you’d be gorging them or making them extra full with a large meal, feeding with one cricket isn’t a large meal unless you feed with 7 of them. (By the way, tarantulas will eat and eat and eat, it’s not really about them having an appetite or wanting to eat all the time, you just don’t wanna over do it cause it could also make them fast for a long time.) Shes not being aggressive because she’s hungry but because that is her character. For your problem with needing to get her out of the enclosure, use a large enough cup that you can place over her without hurting her legs & get a lid, like the lid to a sour cream tub, something flat, slide it under her while the cup is over her, and pick her up like that)

      @@giselleluna1100 thank you! Yes it’s been a few more weeks since having her and I’ve slowed down with the feeding and changed to smaller live food anyways as I was quite worried about this, I’ve changed to wax worms when I do feed her, but do let me know if there’s anything wrong with that choice! But her temperament is much better now, and I even managed to move her to a new tank, as her claw got stuck in the mesh of my last one, so got her one without any mesh. she was totally fine, ofcourse still a bit of attitude because as you say, that’s just her, but definitely better, I think maybe I was just trying to move her too soon, when she hadn’t really settled in yet, but now she’s got a new tank I’m just going to leave her be for a while! Thanks for all the advice I hope to one day become just as knowledgeable in this hobby! :)
