I like to think that Graham was high on the fairy dust the whole game and only came down when they landed on the evil island. That's why he started getting pissed off at Cedric.

My favourite part is that there is only one part of the game where he's actually useful, but you do have an opportunity to leave him to die on the Harpies island with apparently no effect on the rest of the game... until you get to the only bit he's actually useful in, and if you left his corpse to rot you die lol

Once the game's over, Graham will sigh with great relief managing finally to stop sucking his gut in and let all his rolls flop lazily in the wind like a majestic blob-banner.

If you don't already watch Mostly Walking play these games, you should look into it. They've been a part of my rotation of King's Quest Let's Plays for years, just watched them play 6 again, I literally watch it and KQ5 back to back 2 or 3 times a year. Also, pawdugan playing the AGD remake of KQ3 is also great.
To give the game more forgiveness than it deserves, they actually spent a bunch of that MILLION DOLLARS hiring a composer, whose score couldn't really be rendered in the MIDI soundtrack. I saw an LP of this game where the LPer (Dilandau3000, if you're interested) used a Roland MT-32, and with that, the music was actually pretty good.

It's way overdue but I'd like to give context to 48:40 for those who are unfamiliar with KQ lore. In KQ3, you play as "Gwydion"(Alexander), a boy that is a servant to the Wizard Manannan who kidnapped him when he was a newborn baby and kept him in a mountain house for 17 years. For some reason. This isn't entirely ever touched on, but Manannan had planned to kill Alexander when he turned 18. Through trial and error, he(and by extension, you as the player) stumble upon magic scrolls when sneaking around Manannan's library, and turning his captive into a cat when he ate a cookie by Alexanders magic spell becomes a motive as of why Mordack took the entire family to exchange them to turn Manannan back into his former self. So Mordack reiterated his brothers actions by kidnapping people just for the sake of kidnapping them. To understand this a bit more you would need a slew of knowledge of previous KQ titles to connect these dots together which is interesting and all but when they're being this vague it easily becomes missable. Especially in KQ6 where you do reunite with certain KQ3 characters that you only saw once but the game acts as if they've always been there. Also, PSA, Graham would be canonically dead by now if it wasn't for Rosella, as he literally got a heart attack right after reuniting with Alexander which is why you play KQ4 as Rosella. Oh and for some reason, KQ3 involved dragons and sacrifices that never got mentioned again.
Hold on, at the beginning did they just have the voice actors stand further from their mics to simulate distance? I don't know much about voice recording, but I don't think that's how you're supposed to do it. Hell, Diabetus has pulled that off better.

It's such a shame that they managed to produce such GORGEOUS graphics combined with such TERRIBLE story and puzzles. Like... How is that even possible? Did they hire special people to be sure that each background would be ruined by a omplete absence of puzzle, or a particularly bad one?
I've watched and laughed at this many times. I loved these games as a kid but my God do they not hold up even a little. They were terrible. Sierra's idea of "replay value" was tons of illogical ways to make the game unwinnable with no idea what you'd done "wrong" - the custard pie/Yeti puzzle is maybe the most infamously dumb puzzle in any game ever. This was the first game, I'm pretty sure, to ever have voice acting, and that was so mind-blowing at the time no one stopped to think how laughably awful it was - literally performed by whoever was around the Sierra offices and wanted to do a voice.

It can be said that Graham is extremely easily distracted, and thus an awful adventurer. I would argue this: He gets extremely easily distracted, and constantly only narrowly avoids death through the dumbest means possible, but still gets the original job he had planned to acomplish not only in spite of his dumbass tangents, but because of those tangents instead. He's so incredibly easily distracted that he actually achieves a weird hypercompetence. He's like batman, but instead of being prepared for every situation, he just bumbles his way through every possible situation until he's hyper prepared for what he was supposed to be doing the entire time.
Funny commentary but KQ5 is a true classic and a cornerstone in the Adventure game series. Cedric is annoying but I find myself saying "ooh watch out Graham a poooooisonous snake" far too often. Love you Roberta Williams.

Actually, I was referring to the first game (the comment I replied to was the one where you were talking about it), because if you have the phantasmagoria guide, they have a little FAQ in there, one question asking why the ending sucks so much and "Sometimes life's a bummer isn't it?" is literally the explanation given by Roberta Williams. Although it does apply to the sequel as well.
That's not the most baffling budget ever, which is ET. ET's budget was $125 million. Adjusted for inflation you could buy a pair of F-22s and still have $9.5 million to make the game with.
Actually, the stick and the shoe as well as the gold coin and gold needle are interchangeable for plot purposes. You can still win with swapping those out, though you get less points. There's a later gold item you get that you can give away, though, and THAT will screw you if you do.
I think what the willow meant was that the prince was sent to a far-off land (let's say Daventry because whatever) far before the events of this game, and he's just now managed to get anywhere near her. I doubt she's managed to keep tabs on the guy 'cause...you know, tree.

He's so incredibly easily distracted that he actually achieves a weird hypercompetence. He's like batman, but instead of being prepared for every situation, he just bumbles his way through every possible situation until he's hyper prepared for what he was supposed to be doing the entire time.

Funny commentary but KQ5 is a true classic and a cornerstone in the Adventure game series. Cedric is annoying but I find myself saying "ooh watch out Graham a poooooisonous snake" far too often. Love you Roberta Williams.

Oh yeah, nothing says masterpiece like pointless sidekicks, trial and error, bad music and tons of ways to arbitrarily make the game unwinnable.
Nah. Space Quest 1-5, Quest for Glory 1-4, Day of The Tentacle, The Curse of Monkey Island, Companions of Xanth, Indiana Jones and The Fate of Atlantis, even King's Quest 1, 2, 3, 4 and 6 are. But this one is is a load of bullshit
Actually, I was referring to the first game (the comment I replied to was the one where you were talking about it), because if you have the phantasmagoria guide, they have a little FAQ in there, one question asking why the ending sucks so much and "Sometimes life's a bummer isn't it?" is literally the explanation given by Roberta Williams. Although it does apply to the sequel as well.

Actually, the stick and the shoe as well as the gold coin and gold needle are interchangeable for plot purposes. You can still win with swapping those out, though you get less points. There's a later gold item you get that you can give away, though, and THAT will screw you if you do.
I think what the willow meant was that the prince was sent to a far-off land (let's say Daventry because whatever) far before the events of this game, and he's just now managed to get anywhere near her. I doubt she's managed to keep tabs on the guy 'cause...you know, tree.
Actually, I remember using the stick where I was supposed to use the boot, and it still worked. Then again, that was years and years ago, so my brain might just be fucking with me.
